In the UFC 249 main event, Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje will throw down for the interim lightweight title.

Ferguson is riding the longest win streak in 155lb history (12) and is hoping a win tonight will finally earn him a shot at current champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Gaethje is in great form of his own. Three straight knockout wins have him on the cusp of great things in the UFC. Can he make it four in a row at UFC 249? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: This is a true 50:50 fight in my eyes. If anyone wins early, it’s going to be Justin Gaethje. He has got the power to hurt Ferguson who is pretty easy to hit. However, the longer this fight goes the more likely it becomes that Ferguson will be a two-time interim lightweight champion. I just don’t think Gaethje will allow that to happen. ‘The Highlight’ will score another quick knockout victory in the UFC 249 main event.

Prediction: Justin Gaethje

Abhinav Kini: Justin Gaethje is a dangerous opponent with knockout power in his hands. However, Tony Ferguson is probably the most dangerous fighter in the whole division and has been training for months and months for Khabib Nurmagomedov, I see him tiring and eventually breaking Gaethje. Ferguson via submission.

Prediction: Tony Ferguson

Ryan Galloway: My pick for the main event is going to be Tony Ferguson. I see El Cucuy getting it done in the 3rd or 4th rounds by wearing Gaethje down by attacking the body eventually catching him in a submission or getting the victory by TKO. The first two rounds of the fight are going to be extremely dangerous for Ferguson, it’s no secret Gaethje wants to knock him out and he definitely has the power to do it but I believe should it leave the second round this fight is going to be Ferguson all day. Anything could happen in this matchup and that’s what makes it so exciting about seeing two fighters of this level compete.

Prediction: Tony Ferguson

Ryan Maccarthy: This is going to be insane. Ferguson and Gaethje, I don’t think you can get more exciting than these 2 warriors. I believe Tony takes it by 4th or 5th round TKO, I can’t see this fight ending in a decision. Gaethje does have the ability to finish the fight. But I think Ferguson has a never-quit attitude, and he’s a little more technical when it comes to other situations than just the brawling style that Gaethje is known for. Ferguson can brawl, but he also is a great high-level jiu-jitsu artist. He’s got great scrambling ability that might throw Justin off his game a little. This is nearly impossible to predict but I have a hard time picking against Tony Ferguson.

Prediction: Tony Ferguson

Henry Cejudo puts his bantamweight title on the line against former champion Dominick Cruz in the UFC 249 co-main event tomorrow night.

Cejudo captured the belt last time out stopping Brazilian knockout artist Marlon Moraes insides three rounds to do so. Ever since he has been searching for big fights and he’s got one at UFC 249 against one of the best 135lb fighters in history.

Cruz hasn’t fought since losing his bantamweight title to Cody Garbrandt almost four years ago. A plethora of injuries have hampered his career but he oozes confidence heading into this UFC championship fight.

Check out our staff predictions for Henry Cejudo vs. Dominick Cruz.

Jordan Ellis: Dana White says this would be one of the biggest upsets in MMA history if Dominick Cruz becomes bantamweight champion at UFC 249 and I totally agree with him. Henry Cejudo is in his fighting prime and I expect him to make quick work of Dominick Cruz. ‘The Dominator’ can’t be anywhere near his best at right now and for that reason I doubt he’ll make it out of the early rounds

Prediction: Henry Cejudo

Abhinav Kini: This all depends on what Dominick Cruz shows up. But unless Cruz has massively declined in the last few years, I really don’t see how Henry Cejudo gets the victory. The size difference is already huge, Cruz is adept at wrestling and I don’t see him being held down either, he won’t gas out and his movement and striking will be too much for Cejudo. I have Cruz winning the decision and becoming a champion once again.

Prediction: Dominick Cruz

Ryan Galloway: In the Co-main event of the evening I think Dominick Cruz will be crowned the Bantamweight champion once again by defeating Henry Cejudo with a Decision. I see the fight being close however I think his elusiveness and reach advantage will be the determining factors in Cruz’s victory. I think Henry has a good chance to catch Dom early and maybe we won’t see the Cruz of old and that could favor Cejudo however, if the best Dominick Cruz shows up it’s going to be an extremely difficult night out for Cejudo.

Prediction: Dominick Cruz

Ryan Maccarthy: There are some major historical implications on this fight, whoever pulls it out will be making some crazy history. In terms of the fight itself, I have a hard time picking against one of the most decorated combat sports athletes ever against someone that hasn’t stepped inside in the octagon in 3.5 years. If anyone can pull that off though, its Dominik Cruz, a legend in his own right. Cruz’ length, unorthodox style, cardio, fight IQ, etc. are all cause for concern for Cejudo. But like I said, I have a hard time picking against him. I think its super close, Cejudo retains via Split Decision.

Prediction: Henry Cejudo

Kevin Lee vs. Charles Oliveria

UFC Brasilia will be behind closed doors but the show goes on despite pretty much every other major sports promotion halting events this weekend.

In this main event we have catchweight bout after Kevin Lee missed weight by 2.5lbs for his fight against Brazilian submission specialist Charles Oliveira.

Lee returns to the cage for the first time since beating Gregor Gillespie with a highlight reel headkick KO. Oliveria looks to extend his winning run to seven and continue the best form of his UFC career. Check out our staff predicitons below.

Ryan Galloway: UFC Fight Night Brasilia’s main event showcases a lightweight matchup between Kevin Lee and Charles Oliveira. Oliveira has been on a tear lately however I believe Kevin Lee will be too much for him. I think Kevin Lee’s striking will be the difference in the bout and that he will be able to find the finish on the feet. (Prediction: Kevin Lee)

Cole Shelton: Kevin Lee vs. Charles Oliveira is a fascinating fight. In this one, I think Oliveira’s path to victory is to submit Lee but with Lee’s takedown defense I believe he’ll be able to keep to standing like he did with the Gillespie fight and piece up Oliveira for the entire fight and eventually rock him and for Lee to earn a third-round TKO. (Prediction: Kevin Lee)

Jordan Ellis: This main event match-up will ultimately come down to size in my opinion. Kevin Lee is in desperate need of the 165lb division as one of the bigger guys at lightweight. Charles Oliveira on the other hand has fought at 145lbs and isn’t the most built guy at this weight. I expect Lee to use his size, dictate the fight and avoid the nasty submission game of his Brazilian opponent. Ultimately, I expect Lee to get the stoppage win and snap the long winning run of his Oliveira. (Prediction: Kevin Lee)

Who do you thin will take the UFC Brasilia main event?

UFC 248 Staff Predictions: Israel Adesanya vs. Yoel Romero

Israel Adesanya & Yoel Romero

UFC 248 will go down tonight (Sat. March 7, 2020) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mixed martial arts (MMA) fans will witness the first title defence of middleweight champion Israel Adesanya against Cuban powerhouse Yoel Romero in the main event.

UFC 248 Staff Predictions

Abinhav Kini: Although Yoel Romero winning the title at 42 would be amazing and as much as I think he’s a bad matchup, I’ve learned not to doubt Israel Adesanya anymore. He is on another level right now and I can see him getting a finish in the 3rd or 4th round, if not a decision. He won’t be unscathed, however. (Prediction: Israel Adesnaya)

Cole Shelton: This is a great fight where many think Yoel Romero will be Israel Adesanya’s toughest fight to date. Yet, I don’t suspect we’ll see Romero use his wrestling and Adesanya will piece up the Cuban for three rounds and earn a TKO win in the fourth to defend his middleweight title. (Prediction: Israel Adesanya)

Ryan Galloway: In the UFC 248 main event Israel Adesanya vs Yoel Romero I predict Israel gets a unanimous decision victory as his first title defense after unifying the belts. Romero is a very dangerous fighter however, aside from a spontaneous knockout I can’t see him getting the victory. Israel’s ability to stay out of danger while picking his opponents apart with his reach advantage and timing counters to their offense leave me to believe he will be able to walk away with the victory. (Prediction: Israel Adesnaya)

Timmy Moran: The Stylebender era continues as Israel Adesanya makes his 3rd walk in the Octagon with a title on the line. Waiting for him will be the physically imposing Yoel Romero. Despite having three consecutive losses, Romero was never outclassed in any bout, and arguably should’ve have won a couple. Expect a closer bout than odds makers see it, but it’ll be the favorite Adesanya that pulls off the victory. Prediction: Israel Adesnaya)

Jordan Ellis: This fight is about as 50/50 as it gets. I favour Yoel Romero to come out victorious simply because he has more weapons. He has one-punch knockout power which could end the fight at any moment. The Cuban also has a granite chin meaning he’ll be almost impossible to knockout. Besides that, he has Olympic level wrestling meaning he can take this fight to the floor if he wishes. Adesanya has never fought anyone at this level before and is still fairly new to the sport. I expect him to look good for large parts of the fight but ultimately lose via stoppage in the later rounds. (Prediction: Yoel Romero)
