Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar’s highly-anticipated bantamweight debut is finally set.

“The Answer” is set to meet Cory Sandhagen at UFC Raleigh which takes place January 25 at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, per ESPN.

Edgar is coming off a unanimous decision defeat to Max Holloway in their featherweight title fight at UFC 240 back in July. It marked Edgar’s second defeat in his last three fights as well as his third failed attempt at winning the 145-pound strap. The New Jersey native will now look to get back on track with another run towards a title shot at bantamweight.

He won’t have an easy task, though. Sandhagen is unbeaten in the UFC in in five fights so far. His notably wins include impressive decision victories over longtime divisional veterans John Lineker and Raphael Assuncao. A win for “The Sandman” would arguably be the biggest of his career and potentially enter him into title contention.

The bantamweight bout is expected to serve as the co-main event of UFC Raleigh. A heavyweight contest between Junior dos Santos and Curtis Blaydes is slated to serve as the headliner for the event.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos will, in fact, return to the Octagon soon. Per a report from MMA Fighting, “Cigano” will headline UFC Raleigh on January 25 against Curtis Blaydes.

Both sides have verbally agreed to the fight, however, no contracts have been signed as of this writing. Dos Santos was initially expected to headline this past weekend’s UFC Moscow show against Alexander Volkov. However, the Brazilian was forced out with a nasty infection.

He was replaced by Greg Hardy, who lost to the Russian via lopsided unanimous decision. As for Blaydes, he’s on a two-fight win streak, which includes a second-round TKO win over Shamil Abdurakhimov. Blaydes is 6-1 in his last seven fights, the only defeat coming against Francis Ngannou via first-round knockout in China.

The UFC Raleigh card will be going head-to-head with a Bellator event that features Cris Cyborg’s promotional debut, as she takes on Julia Budd for the Bellator women’s featherweight title.

What do you think about the matchup between dos Santos and Blaydes?
