Another great match-up has been added to the UFC Sacramento card this summer.

Earlier today (Tues. May 28, 2019) it was announced that multi-time UFC bantamweight title challenger Urijah Faber will come out of retirement to compete on the card. Also, MMA Junkie has confirmed that featherweights Mirsad Bektic and Josh Emmett will be fighting each other at the event as well.

UFC Sacramento (also known as UFC on ESPN+ 13) takes place from the Golden1 Center in Sacramento, California on July 13. Bektic is currently on a two-fight win streak and will be returning to action after over a year away from competition due to injuries.

As for Emmett, he avenged his knockout loss to Jeremy Stephens in February of last year with a big knockout win over Michael Johnson in March. Emmett is still one of the most feared punchers in the division, and a big statement against Bektic could get him back on track to a hopeful title shot.

Check out the updated UFC Sacramento fight card below:

  • Urijah Faber vs. Ricky Simon
  • Cynthia Calvillo vs. Livinha Souza
  • Darren Elkins vs. Ryan Hall
  • Cezar Ferreira vs. Marvin Vettori
  • Beneil Dariush vs. Drakkar Klose
  • Sara McMann vs. Nicco Montano
  • Martin Day vs. Benito Lopez
  • Karl Roberson vs. John Phillips
  • Mirsad Bektic vs. Josh Emmett

If Urijah Faber wants t a comeback fight at UFC Sacramento, Manny Bermudez is willing to welcome him back into the Octagon.

Faber retired in 2016 following his win over Brad Pickett in his hometown of Sacramento. Of late, “The California Kid” has spoken of coming out of retirement.

In fact, he is serious about it and even targeted returning at the UFC’s next event in Sacramento which takes place July 13 at the Golden 1 Center.

And Bermudez, who is undefeated with three finishes in his three UFC fights, is more than open to facing the bantamweight legend.

“I’ve watched him since I was a kid,” Bermudez told MMA Junkie. “And to potentially go from watching him fight on TV as a kid with no idea on how to fight, to be standing across the cage with him would be a definite career/life highlight for me.”

Something To Gain For Faber

Of course, Bermudez would ideally gain more from a win than Faber as he would have a legend on his record.

However, “The Bermudez Triangle” feels Faber also has lots to gain.

“I’m a young, up-and-coming guy; he’s a legend in the sport,” Bermudez explained. “However this fight would be a big win for either one of us. For me, the reasons it would be big are obvious, but for him, if he wanted to retire and he won, it would be against an undefeated up-and-comer with 12 finishes in 14 pro fights. I’m a submission guy, and he’s never been submitted.”

Bermudez is not scared to face him on enemy territory either.

“I’m willing to go right to his backyard in Sacramento to get this fight going,” he added.

UFC on FOX 22 went down in Sacramento, California last night, and provided plenty of fireworks. Headlined by a fantastic women’s strawweight tilt between Michelle Waterson and Paige VanZant, the California card also featured a hometown hero. Former WEC champion and Team Alpha Male founder Urijah Faber fought for the last time in his storied career. Taking on Brad Pickett in the second bout on the main card, ‘The California Kid’ wrapped up a 44-fight MMA career at the age of 37.

Faber received a touching ovation on his entrance to the octagon, but his victory was in no way assured. ‘One Punch’ is as feisty as they come, and at this stage in Faber’s career it could have gone south if he hadn’t been on point. Showing why he has long been a top fighter at the elite level, ‘TCK’ dominated the action against his British opponent.

Classic Faber

Getting the party started early on, Urijah Faber dropped Brad Pickett with some crushing punches. Displaying his tight grappling on the ground, Faber was looking for the finish throughout. After the final round, there was a clear winner, as ‘The California Kid’ shut out Pickett for three entire rounds.

Fitting End

Providing a fitting end to his illustrious career, Faber can call it a day on a victory, something many legends have been unable to do in the past. Perhaps making this moment even sweeter is the fact ‘The California Kid’ has lost two in a row before hand. Few fighters will ever make it to the level of experience and skill that Faber has. Although he never tasted UFC gold, he’ll forever be remembered as the former WEC featherweight champion and for his gritty wars with the best in the lower weight classes.

So long Urijah Faber, we salute you!
