Urijah Faber returned to the Octagon on Saturday at UFC Sacramento. There, the UFC Hall of Famer TKO’d Ricky Simon in under a minute. It was no doubt a standout performance and showed he is still top a fighter.

But, things did not appear that way leading up to the fight. While he was training he sprained his AC joint and had to miss almost two weeks of training. Yet, that did not impact his performance whatsoever.

”I came right off that [Polaris 10] grappling match in the UK where I got into camp. And the first practice that I had sparring, I sprained my AC joint,” Faber said post-fight (h/t MMAMania). “I got a PRP [Platelet-rich plasma] shot and I was out for eleven days of an eight-week camp, having to work on my kicks and do running, and doing all the stuff that I tell these guys to do and lead by example.

”So I was coming in at seven in the morning, and before practice was over at 11:30, I would’ve put in all that time. And I’m just trying to show these guys that this is how you do it, guys. This is not a one toe in, one toe out.”

It seems likely that Urijah Faber will fight again and look to eventually win the elusive UFC title. But, he has not committed 100 percent if that is the case.

If Urijah Faber fights again, who should he fight?

Despite what seemed to be an early stoppage, Aspen Ladd his taking her first professional loss on the chin.

Ladd met Germaine de Randamie in the UFC Sacramento headliner last night, but would lose via knockout in the first round. After getting dropped with a right hand by the former kickboxer, referee Herb Dean called off the action just as de Randamie was about to land a follow-up strike on the ground.

While being interviewed by Michael Bisping, Ladd reacted professionally, stating that “sh*t happens” and that Dean was doing what he thought was best, even if she felt she could have continued.

She has since released a statement on Twitter:

“Not the result we wanted, I’ll roll with it,” Ladd wrote. “Respect to @IronLadyMMA she did her job, it’s all good with @HerbDeanMMA thank u to my crew #MMAGOLD.”

It’s a first setback for Ladd, and given yet another troubling weight cut, it might be best if she considers the move up to featherweight. As for de Randamie, she is now in prime position to challenge current bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes to a rematch.

What did you think of the stoppage? Was it early or was Ladd bound to be finished?

Urijah Faber’s win over Ricky Simon surprised and shocked many in the combat sport world, including commentators Brendan Fitzgerald and Michael Bisping.

Making his return to the Octagon for the first time in nearly three years, Faber was a betting underdog going into his UFC Sacramento co-headliner last night. However, “The California Kid” was able to drop Simon with a right and continued the assault on the ground to eventually grab a first-round finish. It was Faber’s first win via knockout since 2007.

His hometown fans naturally went crazy, but so did Fitzgerald and Bisping who had jumped to their feet by the time the fight was over. The former tweeted after the event about calling an “incredible” night:

“I mean that night was just bananas,” Fitzgerald wrote. “As I was writing the stat in my notes for Urijah’s last KO (2007!), I had a hunch I would need it, but thought it was wishful thinking. Nope. Incredible night! (PS – I sound cooler than I look apparently).

Henry Cejudo might just get his wish after all. Following his 135-pound title victory at UFC 238 earlier this year, “The King Of Cringe” called out UFC Hall Of Famer Urijah Faber, who was retired from mixed martial arts (MMA) at the time.

However, Faber recently came out of retirement last night (Sat. July 13, 2019), picking up a first-round knockout victory over young up-and-comer Ricky Simon. After the fight, Faber accepted Cejudo’s challenge, and made it clear he’s going after the bantamweight title one last time.

Following Faber’s win, Cejudo took to Twitter to respond to “The California Kid’s” post-fight comments. Here’s what “Triple C” had to say:

“Careful what you wish for my corn-rolled princess. You could be the next legend to bend the knee to Triple C.”

Currently, Cejudo is recovering from shoulder surgery and will likely be out-of-action for the remainder of the year. He could potentially be back inside the Octagon to defend one of his two titles in the first quarter of 2019. Faber certainly makes an argument for a title shot, but UFC President Dana White has expressed his doubts about such a matchup in the past.

Other worthy contenders await at bantamweight as well, such as Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan. Cejudo’s next fight is certainly an interesting topic of discussion amongst the MMA community. Only time will tell what’s next for the double champ.

What do you think about a potential matchup between Cejudo and Faber for the bantamweight title?
