Chan Sung Jung has released a statement following his retirement last night.

It was an emotional day for MMA fans, Jung would conclude his legendary career after a captivating clash with Max Holloway. The two squared off in the main event of UFC Singapore in what was a display of both Jung and Holloway’s notorious grit and fighting spirit.

Holloway always seemed a step ahead of Jung and while ‘The Korean Zombie’ would hurt him, ‘Blessed’ would eventually find the fatal blow in the third round.

Following the fight, a bruised and weathered Jung would lay his gloves in the middle of the cage before an emotional speech and send-off.

Chan Sung Jung speaks following retirement

From the hospital bed, Jung released a photo and attached a short statement reacting to his retirement – again tugging on the heartstring of fans.

I haven’t achieved everything, but I’ve achieved enough, and wanting more in my head is like greed, so I’m trying to stop,” Jung stated via Instagram. “I feel like I’ve received undeserved love compared to what I’ve done, so I’m grateful to everyone. Now I don’t think I will live a life of being judged and compared anymore, so I feel free, relieved, and scared.

“In the meantime… Thank you so much for loving Korean Zombie. I was really, really happy while fighting in the UFC. Thank you UFC, [Sean Shelby], [Dana White], for letting me live this life. And it was an honour for [Max Holloway] to be my last fight opponent. Let’s greet each other with a bright smile someday. #End.” (Translated by MMA Mania)

Jung leaves the sport of MMA a legend, respected by both his contemporaries and those who had the pleasure to watch him compete. A fighter’s fighter, Jung was all heart and never backed down from anyone. Frome WEC to challenging Alexander Volkaonvski for his featherweight title, the 36-year-old always came to put on a show.

Jung holds notable wins over the likes of Dustin Poirier, Leonard Garcia and Frankie Edgar.

Max Holloway wants fourth title fight Alexander Volkanovski after UFC Singapore win

Despite suffering three decision losses to current featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski over the course of their three-fight series, former division titleholder, Max Holloway insists he will clamour for a fourth title outing off the back of his stunning victory at UFC Fight Night Singapore yesterday.

Holloway, who retained his status as the number one ranked featherweight contender in Kallang, managed to hand former title challenger and common-foe, ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung a brutal one-punch KO loss in the third round of their main event slot.

The victory came as Holloway’s second consecutively since his own shutout decision loss to Volkanovski in the pair’s trilogy bout in the summer of last year, having outworked Arnold Allen in a UFC Fight Night Kansas City headliner back in April.

And hoping to crown himself as the featherweight champion for the second time in his storied Octagon tenure, Holloway, who continues to separate himself as the best of the rest apart from Volkanovski, laid out intentions to face the Australian in the future again.

“Undeniable man,” Max Holloway told assembled media of a fourth fight with Alexander Volkanovski after his UFC Singapore win. “All week, I’ve been saying undeniable. I’m not here to call nobody out. That’s you guys’ job to figure that out, it’s the fan’s job to do for me. I’m just here to be undeniable, keep being undeniable.”

“I’ll keep crawling, scratching my way to the top of the mountain,” Max Holloway explained. “No one is going to stop me getting there.”

For Volkanovski the Joe Lopez trainee headlined UFC 280 during International Fight Week back in July, unifying the featherweight titles in a TKO win over then-interim champion and common-foe, Yair Rodríguez.

Volkanovski has yet to book his next outing, however, has been linked with a title defense against surging Georgian force, Ilia Topuria once he recovers from a recent surgical procedure to address a hand injury.

Johnny Walker congratulates Anthony Smith on UFC Singapore win, insists ‘I didn’t attack your family’

Johnny Walker

Light heavyweight standout Johnny Walker congratulated Anthony Smith on his return to the win column at UFC Singapore, but once again made it clear that he in no way attacked his family.

On Saturday, ‘Lionheart’ snapped a two-fight losing skid after scoring a closely contested split decision victory over Ryan Spann. It was Smith’s second victory over Spann, having earned a first-round submission against ‘Superman’ in 2021. The win will no doubt help erase the bad taste left in Smith’s mouth after delivering a lackluster performance against rising contender Johnny Walker earlier this year.

Walker had a dominant performance against Smith in May, but much of his victory was overshadowed by a very strange accusation that ‘Lionheart’ made during their UFC on ABC 4 scrap.

During the second round of the bout, Anthony Smith could be heard telling Walker, “You’re attacking my family.” A confused Walker said, “What?” before Smith repeated his statement.

Johnny Walker Recalls Awkward Exchange with Anthony Smith

Taking to social media following Smith’s win inside Singapore Indoor Stadium, Johnny Walker congratulated his former foe online and reassured Smith that he never attacked his family.

“Congratulations @lionheartasmith for the win, but I didn’t attack your family I promise you,” Walker wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

To this day, the motivation behind Smith’s statement is unclear, but many believe that it could have been ‘Lionheart’ using a terrifying moment from his life to help get him in a mindset to fight inside the Octagon.

Appearing on the Believe You Me podcast with Michael Bisping not long after the loss to Johnny Walker, Smith detailed an incident where he and his family were the victims of a home invasion. Fortunately, nobody was hurt and the intruder was taken into custody, but fight fans believe that ‘Lionheart’ could still be suffering PTSD from the incident with many pointing to the video clip below:

Conor McGregor praises Max Holloway KO win at UFC Singapore what a shot tremendous stuff

Not even Conor McGregor could find something cynical to say about the action-packed main event clash between Max Holloway and The Korean Zombie at UFC Singapore.

On Saturday, fans inside Singapore Indoor Stadium were treated to a veritable featherweight superfight as South Korean fan favorite The Korean Zombie, real name Chan Sung Jung, made his final stand in the Octagon against one of the greatest strikers in the history of the sport, Max Holloway.

Needless to say, the headliner did not disappoint as both men entered the cage determined to sling leather and put on a show. Zombie and Holloway both had their moments early on, but in the third round, they decided to throw caution to the win and began wildly throwing bombs. Zombie appeared to outstrike Holloway during the onslaught, but ‘Blessed’ managed to land a looping right hand that caught TKZ on the button, sending him crashing to the canvas.

Immediately following the fight, Irish megastar Conor McGregor took to X (formerly Twitter) and praised both fighters and the promotion for putting on a hell of a show.

“What a shot, what a performance! Classic Zombie, classic Holloway,” McGregor wrote. “Tremendous stuff! @ufc, as advertised.”

Conor McGregor Gives Some Love to Korean Zombie and Max Holloway

It was an emotional scene following the fight as The Korean Zombie announced his retirement from the sport. Leaving the Octagon for the final time with tears in his eyes and thousands of fans serenading him with their rendition of ‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries, nobody could hold in their appreciation for what TKZ has meant to the sport, including Conor McGregor who followed up on his initial post.

“Well done Korean Zombie,” McGregor added. “What a goer!”

Conor McGregor also showered Max Holloway with praise following his highlight-reel-worthy knockout. “Man!!! Max fuckin’ Holloway!”

Max Holloway moved to 21-7 inside the Octagon and is currently riding back-to-back wins, including his third-round knockout against The Korean Zombie on Saturday. Dating back to 2019, the only man that ‘Blessed’ has lost to is reigning featherweight world champion Alexander Volkanovski.

Korean Zombie walks away from the sport going 17-8 and carrying wins over some of the biggest names in UFC history, including Dustin Poirier, Jose Aldo, and Frankie Edgar.

The Korean Zombie Chan Sung Jung retires from MMA after brutal KO loss at UFC Singapore

Former two-time featherweight champion, ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung has confirmed his retirement from mixed martial arts competition this evening following his stunning third round KO loss to former division titleholder, Max Holloway in the main event of UFC Singapore.

Returning to the Octagon for the first time since a fourth round TKO defeat to Alexander Volkanovski in a featherweight title fight back in April of last year, South Korean favorite, The Korean Zombie headlined tonight’s return to Asia for the promotion, taking on Hawaiian striker, Holloway.

And said to be weighing up his future in combat sports ahead of his headliner against Holloway at UFC Singapore, Zombie, whose most recent win came in the form of a decision victory over Dan Ige back in 2021 in a headlining tilt, suffered a spectacular loss in a blood-and-guts performance today.

Throwing caution to the wind in the third round of his main event clash with Holloway, Zombie, 36, was dropped to the canvas in brutal fashion in the opening minute of the frame, walking onto a massive counter right hook from the former – splitting his head open in worrying fashion as he collided with the canvas.

And admitting his championship fight shortcomings, Zombie revealed that with his defeat to Holloway this evening in Kallang, he realised he could no longer hang with the division’s upper-echelon – confirming his retirement from mixed martial arts competition with immediate effect.

Following his announcement, the UFC broadcast team panned the camera to Zombie, as the Singapore Indoor Stadium blared ‘Zombie’ by Irish rock band, The Cranberries over the arena speakers, with the attends cheering the veteran former title challenger into retirement.

One of the most recognisable figures in the sport, Zombie, a former WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting) feature, has racked up notable wins over the likes of Mark Hominick, Dustin Poirier, Dennis Bermudez, Renato Moicano, the aforenoted, Ige, former lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar, and back in 2011, registered the first ‘twister’ submission win in UFC history with a victory against Leonard Garcia in the pair’s rematch.
