Streaking flyweight contender, Erin Blanchfield may very well have earned her first title challenge under the banner of the UFC — defeating the returning one-time title chaser, Taila Santos on the main card of UFC Singapore, in a close unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) win.

Blanchfield, an alum of the Shannon Knapp-led Invicta FC, landed her sixth successive victory this morning in Singapore, securing a close unanimous judging win in Kallang over Santos, as the Brazilian returned to action for the first time since she dropped a flyweight title challenge loss to former champion, Valentina Shevchenko back in June of last year in Singapore.

Off the back of her win, New Jersey favorite, Blanchfield called for. a title fight against the winner of the incoming Nohce UFC title rematch between Alexa Grasso, and the aforenoted, Shevchenko.

The Korean Zombie unsure if UFC Singapore headliner with Max Holloway will be his final fight

Korean Zombie

The Korean Zombie is uncertain whether or not his UFC Singapore headliner with Max Holloway will be his MMA swan song.

On Saturday night, Zombie, real name Chan Sung Jung, will return to the Octagon more than a year removed from his lopsided loss to featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 273. He’s set to square off with another sample of the 145-pound division, Max Holloway as the pair main event the promotion’s highly anticipated return to Lion City.

After 16 years of competing in mixed martial arts, many were under the impression that Korean Zombie’s fight with Holloway would be his last appearance inside the Octagon. However, that may not be the case. Speaking about his potential retirement with members of the press, Zombie suggested that he’s taking things as they come and has not yet decided one way or the other.

“I’m not really sure what’s going to happen,” Zombie said through an interpreter at the UFC Singapore media event. “It’s very difficult for a fighter to acknowledge that one’s career has ended. I’ll have to see how well I fight in the Octagon. I’ll have to assess myself on this fight, and then decide what’s going on next” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Korean Zombie Excited to Take on Another Featherweight Legend

While The Korean Zombie is still sitting firmly in the featherweight top ten, a lot of fans have criticized the UFC for booking the South Korean striker against a veritable killer like Max Holloway.

“I’ve wanted to fight Holloway forever,” Zombie said. “Whenever I imagine me fighting Holloway, I also expect a slugfest to happen. Both fighters are going to be worn out to the very bottom, so it’s going to be a very fun fight.”

Currently, The Korean Zombie sits as a massive five-to-one underdog going into what could be his final main event matchup inside the Octagon. Despite the odds and his unfavorable showing against Alexander Volkanovski, Zombie has no intentions of leaving Singapore without having his hand raised.

“I respect Max,” Zombie continued. “He’s a living legend. He’s a legend in this division. I’ve fought three legends here in this division: I fought Jose Aldo, I fought Volkanovski. I respect Max, but just because I respect him does not mean I’m going to go easy on him. I expect to win this fight. I’m going to go hard on him.”

UFC Singapore will air live from Singapore Indoor Stadium with prelims kicking off at 5 a.m. ET. The main card is set to begin at 8 a.m. ET.

Anthony Smith still planning title win after UFC Singapore sometimes I sh*t the bed

Slated to co-headline UFC Singapore this weekend, one-time light heavyweight title challenger, Anthony Smith still retains plans to eventually lift Octagon gold, all while openly discussing his lapses throughout his tenure in the Dana White-led organization.

Set to return to the Octagon this weekend in Kallang, Nebraska veteran, Smith co-headlines the ‘Fight Night’ billed event – taking on former foe, Ryan Spann in an important rematch.

Sidelined since suffering a one-sided decision loss to Johnny Walker at UFC Fight Night Charlotte back in May, Smith managed to land a first round rear-naked choke win over Spann back in 2021, which came as his third victory as part of a three-fight winning run, and ultimately, his most recent triumph inside the Octagon.

Anthony Smith opens up on career mistakes ahead of UFC return

Attempting to remain within the light heavyweight top-10 this weekend, Smith admitted that he still planned to go one better and achieve title success which he missed in a 2019 fight against current heavyweight kingpin, Jon Jones, post-UFC Singapore.

“The whole reason I’m still here and still in this journey is the title,” Anthony Smith told assembled media ahead of UFC Singapore. “The second that I think that I can’t win it or that it’s too far out of reach, then I’ll be done doing this.”

“I’ve been a bit inconsistent,” Anthony Smith explained. “I think at times I show up, and it’s clear I can beat anyone in the world, and sometimes I show up and sh*t the bed. So I’ve just really been working on my consistency. I think that’s what it comes down to: my focus and just trying to bring the best product every time. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve had to adjust some of my training and approaches and recovery stuff. It’s just a learning process.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

As part of that aforenoted three-fight winning run, Smith, 35, landed consecutive victories over both Devin Clark and Jimmy Crute, to go with his Performance of the Night submission win over the above-mentioned, Spann.

UFC Singapore Holloway vs The Korean Zombie Betting Preview

Two featherweight icons share the Octagon in the wee hours of Saturday morning this weekend in the main event of UFC Fight Night Singapore, as former champion, Max Holloway draws fan-favorite veteran, ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung – and in pursuit of another title challenge, Hawaiian former titleholder, Holloway is rapidly closing as an unheard of betting favorite.

Holloway, the current number one ranked featherweight contender, managed to cement his status as best of the rest at the 145lbs limit back in April, handing English contender, Arnold Allen a one-sided unanimous decision loss in the pair’s UFC Fight Night Kansas City headliner.

As for Jung, the Pohang native has been sidelined since he suffered a fourth round standing TKO loss to common-foe and undisputed champion, Alexander Volkanovski back in April of last year in Jacksonville, Florida.

Max Holloway closing as betting favorite to emerge victorious at UFC Singapore

And given his dominant performances against opposition outside of Volkanovski, Holloway has emerged as a stunning -800 betting favorite to defeat Jung over on Betway, with the South Korean placed as a +500 betting underdog to beat the Hawaiin in this weekend’s Singapore main event.

Landing interim featherweight spoils back in 2016 with a TKO win over former lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis, Holloway would unify and then defend the titles in a pair of championship outings against Brazilian favorite, Jose Aldo.

In a pair of other title defenses, Holloway took out common-foes, Brian Ortega, and former lightweight gold holder and future Hall of Fame inductee, Frankie Edgar

And despite suffering three successive title fights to Australian rival, Volkanovski over the course of their series during their respective UFC tenures, in between an eventual rubber-match, Holloway would turn in decision wins over perennial division challengers, Calvin Kattar, and former interim champion, Yair Rodríguez.

A former WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting) favorite, Jung, a true sport veteran, and akin to Holloway, a fan-favorite, has twice failed in his bid to become a featherweight champion on two separate occasions.

Expected to seriously consider his fighting future off the back of this weekend’s return to Asia for the promotion, Jung has turned in recent impressive wins over the likes of Dan Ige, Frankie Edgar, Renato Moicano, Dustin Poirier, Mark Hominick, and Dennis Bermudez.

Also of note on the event’s main card, former light heavyweight champion, Anthony Smith is currently priced at +100 to defeat the surging, Ryan Spann for the second time in his career over on Betway as part of the event’s co-headliner, with the latter a current -125 betting favorite.

Another intriguing clash on the main card of this weekend’s Kallang card comes in the form of a potential flyweight title eliminator between former championship challenger, Taila Santos, and the surging, Erin Blanchfield.

Yet to return since suffering a close decision loss to Valentina Shevchenko at the same venue last year, Santos is closing as a +110 betting underdog to defeat New Jersey wrestling and grappling talent, Blanchfield, who is available as a -137 favorite on Betway to emerge with a win – and likely earn he first title fight since arriving in the promotion from the Shannon Knapp-led Invicta FC.

Anthony Smith reflects on career choices ahead of UFC Singapore: ‘I wanted to be a bigger version of Donald Cerrone

Former UFC light-heavyweight title challenger, Anthony Smith, reflects on his career ahead of his Octagon return this weekend.

Smith will be looking to earn his first win since 2021 at UFC Fight Night Singapore, in what will be a rematch of that fight, taking on Ryan Spann. While his latest outings have been less than encouraging, Smith has enjoyed a successful career in the UFC.

Smith has gone 11-8 with the promotion and has fought consistently and against the toughest opposition possible – challenging Jon Jones for his 205lb title back in March of 2019. Lionheart’ holds wins over the likes of Alexander Gustafsson, Rashad Evans and Volkan Oezdemir and half of his losses with the UFC have came to either former champions, or former title challengers.

Anthony Smith reflects on career mindset

Smith is more than willing to face anyone, regardless of circumstances and clearly takes pride in this mindset. Talking to ESPN, Smith discussed this and would draw a comparison to UFC legend, Donald Cerrone.

“I’ve just always had the mindset that if you wanna be the champion you’ve gotta be able to beat everybody,” Smith explained. “And I haven’t done that up to this point, I’ve had some hiccups. Listen man, here’s my biggest mistake. I’ve always said that I wanted to be like the bigger version of Donald Cerrone. Like I’ll fight anybody, anytime, anyplace.” (H/T MMA News)

While the mindset is commentable, Smith has concluded that it may have been to the detriment of his career.

“I’ve lived up to that. I’ll take all comers, I’ll fight lower-ranked guys, I’ll fight higher-ranked guys, I’ll fight on short notice,” Smith continued.  “I’ll fight across the world, it doesn’t matter. What I didn’t take into account is maybe I’ve absorbed some of the inconsistencies that Donald Cerrone’s seen at times, where I think sometimes I show up and I can beat anybody in the world and sometimes I’m not as consistent. That’s really my issue man. I don’t really care who the opponent is, I’m just worried about trying to be as consistent as possible.”
