UFC Vegas 42

UFC Vegas 42 goes down tonight (Sat. November 13, 2021) from Las Vegas, Nevada at the UFC Apex facility and we have the results. The world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion compiled an excellent card for fight fans to enjoy.

It’s headlined by a meeting between Max Holloway and Yair Rodríguez in a featherweight bout.

Rodriguez was coming off a decision win over Jeremy Stephens at UFC Boston in October 2019 after their first fight ended in a no contest at UFC Mexico City. Before those fights, he had a spectacular last-second knockout win over Chan Sung Jung at UFC Denver. He has won an impressive nine of his last ten fights and currently boasts a record of 13-2-1.

Holloway dropped back-to-back losses to Alexander Volkanovski. Their first fight came at the UFC 245 pay-per-view event from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, which saw Halloway drop the featherweight title. Their rematch took place at the UFC 251 pay-per-view event and once again, Holloway lost by decision. He turned things around with a masterful win over Calvin Kattar by decision in January 2021.

The co-headliner will see a heavyweight bout between Ben Rothwell and Marcos Rogério de Lima. Leah Letson vs. Felicia Spencer in a women’s featherweight fight, Miguel Baeza vs. Khaos Williams in a welterweight bout, and Julio Arce vs. Song Yadong in a bantamweight bout finishes out the main card.

Holloway Ready To Make “Perfect Victim” Rodriguez Pay At UFC Vegas 42

Max Holloway, Yair Rodriguez

UFC featherweight contender Max Holloway is ready to use Yair Rodriguez as the “perfect victim” after going through three fight camps ahead of their clash this weekend.

Holloway will be making his second walk to the Octagon of the year on Saturday. In the UFC Vegas 42 main event, the former 145-pound champion will meet fellow top-five contender Rodriguez, who’ll be in action for the first time since a 2019 victory over Jeremy Stephens.

After losing back-to-back fight against current champion Alexander Volkanovski, Holloway rebounded in style on Fight Island this year. In a January main event against Calvin Kattar, “Blessed” broke a host of striking records on his way to a dominant unanimous decision after five rounds of brutal action. He’s targeting another record-breaking performance against Mexico’s best featherweight.

While it would usually seem unlikely for a trilogy fight with the score at 0-2, Holloway’s performance against “The Boston Finisher,” coupled with the close nature of both his fights against “The Great,” means the Hawaiian is certainly still considered the top contender and biggest threat to Volkanovski’s reign. He’ll look to book his place opposite the champ with an impressive display against Rodriguez tomorrow.

Holloway Ready To Make The Most Of Three-Camp Preparation

The fight between Holloway and Rodriguez has certainly been a long time coming. The pair were set to headline a UFC Fight Night card in July. However, the former champ was forced to withdraw after suffering an injury during his camp.

Speaking during UFC Vegas 42 media day on Wednesday, Holloway discussed his withdrawal. Despite admitting he was hesitant to pull out and disappointed not to be able to stick to his three fights-a-year target, the 29-year-old said there was no way he could fight on July 17.

“There was no way. My coaches, they all came to me, we got a PT guy, I got one of the best PT guys, I got doctors that take care of me in Hawaii, and they was all looking at me and telling me… ‘Not this time Max.’ So it was heart breaking, you know. You guys all know me. I like fighting three times a year, try to squeeze in a fourth. This is only the second one of this year. Slow and steady wins the race sometimes I guess.”

Holloway also revealed that he’s gone through three camps in order to prepare for his matchup with “El Pantera.” After the booking was kept together for this year, “Blessed” went through a small camp to ensure his injury could handle the stress of training.

Having already had a camp for the canceled scrap, and then going through full preparation for this weekend’s date, Holloway said somebody will have to pay for the work he’s been putting in. Thankfully for him, he has the “perfect victim” inside the UFC Apex on Saturday.

“I had to do three camps for this guy. I was doing one camp, got hurt, and after the injury, all my coaches were nervous. They were like, ‘You better do a mini camp to see if the injury can handle the stress.’ And then it did, and we actually went into a real camp. Somebody’s gonna have to pay for that. Saturday night I’ve got the perfect victim I guess.”

Who do you think will win this weekend’s UFC Vegas 42 main event, Max Holloway or Yair Rodriguez?

The weigh-in results for UFC Vegas 42: Holloway vs. Rodriguez are complete, and we’ve got the full results for you below!

Tomorrow from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, Max Holloway meets Yair Rodriguez in a main event that is sure to bring the fireworks. Rodriguez has not competed since 2019, and he will have quite a welcome back in former featherweight champion Max “Blessed” Holloway.

Holloway is still the #1 contender at featherweight, and Rodriguez remains ranked at #3 in the division despite the two-year layoff. All things considered, this bout is being viewed across the board as a title eliminator for current champion Alexander Volkanovski. In the co-main event, heavyweights Ben Rothwell and Marcos Rogerio de Lima will go at it for a potential spot in the official rankings.

Both the main and co-main events are set, and every bout on the card will move forward as planned. However, there were two weight misses in connection to the preliminary card. Joel Alvarez came in at 1.5 pounds over the lightweight limit for his bout against Thiago Moisés, and Liana Jojua was 2.5 pounds over the flyweight limit for her fight against Cortney Casey. Both fighters were fined 30% of their fight purse, but the fights will proceed as scheduled.

UFC Vegas 42: Holloway vs Rodriguez – Preview/Prediction

UFC Vegas 42

A pair of sleek strikers take center stage at UFC Vegas 42 when Max Holloway meets Yair Rodriguez in a 145-pound showdown with title ambitions hanging in the balance.

“Blessed” has put together a legendary UFC career at the age of 29. Training in ‘The Aloha State’, Holloway’s boxing has put the tropical island on the map of major MMA players. The waves of experience Holloway gathered after enduring losses to Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier forged his will to capture UFC gold.

Following an interim-title victory against Anthony Pettis, Max Holloway began his reign. Although the two 145-pound belts were not unified until Holloway’s TKO performance against José Aldo at UFC 212. The Hawaiian possesses a unique ability to control distance in the Octagon and deconstruct opponents as fights unravel. After defending his title on three occasions, the only American to secure the featherweight strap lost to rising 145-pound juggernaut Alexander Volkanovski.

The former champion known for his crisp boxing was granted a rematch against Australia’s Volkanovski. While his second showing would see Holloway nearly drop the champion in the opening round, Volkanovski regathered his composure and won on two of the judge’s scorecards.

Volkanovski’s split decision victory against Max Holloway left the Hawaiian in no man’s land. With two losses to the current titleholder, the former champion will need to continue his streak of statement performances to push his name back into title discussions.

Reestablishing himself as a featherweight threat, he put on a boxing clinic against New England Cartel’s Calvin Kattar. After the fight, Holloway set a record for the most significant strikes landed in a UFC fight (445).

Max Holloway set records and looked good doing it. After channeling his inner Muhhamad Ali, the once featherweight champion showcased his readiness for another shot at Volkanovski. Max Holloway intends to stay active and eliminate a fellow contender from conversations surrounding gold. The former champion is expected to face Yair Rodriguez. And what Holloway is to punches, Rodriguez is to kicks.

A Look At “El Pantera” Ahead Of UFC Vegas 42

13-2 as a professional, Yair Rodriguez, while not as seasoned as Holloway, maintains a dynamic skillset nonetheless. As The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America tournament winner, the flashy yet stealthy style of Yair Rodriguez is a crowd-pleaser. The Mexican native has earned four ‘Fight of the Night’ bonuses as well as three ‘Performance of the Night’ bonuses.

Unlike Holloway, Rodrguez has been less active during his seven-year UFC tenure. However, “El Pantera” put any doubts about his commitment to MMA in the rearview after his violent display against Jeremy Stephens. Many featherweight fighters have grown tired of waiting for Yair Rodriguez and believe his ranking does not reflect the merit of activity. In particular, the rising #8-ranked Giga Chikadze is baffled by the current 145-pound rankings.

As it stands, “El Pantera” holds the #3 distinction as the best 145-pound fighter in the UFC. While he is on a two-fight winning streak, it has been over two years since his last fight. At UFC Vegas 42, some of the most dynamic strikers will mix it up and Holloway will put his status as a clear #1 contender on the line.

How Do They Match Up?

Interestingly, when the two assassins meet at UFC Vegas 42, it will be Yair Rodriguez who enjoys a two-inch reach advantage. Rodriguez has an arsenal that could give Holloway issues while standing.

Early in round one against Jeremy Stephens in their rematch, Rodriguez methodically broke “Lil’ Heathen” down with a variety of kicks but most notably the oblique kick. While some have questioned the ethics of the strike in question, the weapon itself will be extremely useful against a forward pressure boxer like Holloway. Overall, Yair Rodriguez has the tools to defeat Max Holloway.

Shattering offensive records left and right, Max Holloway’s path to victory is being himself. Holloway will need to crowd the kicker. Instead of fighting Rodriguez at kickboxing range as he did against Alexander Volkanovski (in their second fight), Max Holloway’s ability to lead with a stiff jab will be critical to success. The former champion’s mobile offense could stifle Rodriguez’s attempts to set and launch power kicks.

This UFC Vegas 42 main event has the ingredients to emerge as a ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate. Max Holloway is a fighter’s fighter. It’s not every day we witness a former champion fight a contender instead of waiting for a shot at gold that he already earned.

Prediction: Max Holloway def. Yair Rodriguez via unanimous decision victory.

Max Holloway Targets 900 Strikes Against “Dangerous” Yair Rodriguez

Max Holloway, Yair Rodriguez

Max Holloway is setting out to break his own striking record in his main event fight against Yair Rodriguez at UFC Vegas 42 this weekend.

Both men will be looking to secure their place opposite UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski with an impressive performance inside the Apex on Saturday. For Holloway, a victory will almost certainly secure a trilogy fight against “The Great.” If that comes to fruition, the Hawaiian will head into the clash 0-2 against the Australian.

Holloway’s reign as 145-pound king, which included title defenses against José Aldo, Brian Ortega, and Frankie Edgar, came to an end at UFC 245. In the co-main event, “Blessed” fell on the wrong side of a narrow decision after five rounds of competitive action against Volkanovski.

Seven months later, Holloway had an immediate chance at redemption. In an even tighter affair, many believed the 29-year-old had done enough to regain the belt. Unfortunately for him and his fans, a strong final few rounds from the champ was enough to secure his second consecutive victory over Holloway.

Having rebounded in style against Calvin Kattar this year, Holloway will be looking to move on step closer to a second dose of championship glory when he faces the returning Rodriguez on November 13.

Holloway Looks To Top Record-Breaking Kattar Win

Despite facing one of the most explosive men in the featherweight division, whose only UFC defeat came by way of a doctor’s stoppage against Edgar, Holloway is looking to deliver a performance that resembles his memorable headlining victory over Kattar in January.

From the damage he inflicted on “The Boston Finisher” to his memorable interaction with the commentary team mid-exchange, Holloway’s display was incredible. During the 25-minute contest, “Blessed” set the UFC single-fight records for total strikes landed and thrown, significant strikes landed and attempted, strike differential, distance strikes landed, significant head strikes landed, and significant body strikes landed.

According to UFC Stats, Holloway threw a mind-blowing 774 significant strikes. During a recent appearance on DC & RC, the former champion set himself a new target for his next Octagon outing.

“He’s (Rodriguez) a dangerous man, super explosive, he’s got a lot of spinning stuff, a lot of unorthodox stuff. I’m looking forward to it. I want to go out there, what was the last one, I threw like 790 punches or something. If we can get to like 900 that would be great, for this one. So, you know, just trying to raise the bar”

Despite suffering back-to-back defeats to the champ, the manner in which he lost, coupled with his latest appearance in the cage, means Holloway remains the division’s top contender. However, if he’s to book his place against Volkanovski in 2022, the 29-year-old will have to get through Rodriguez first, who will no doubt be looking to upset the odds come fight night.

Who do you think will have their hand raised in the UFC Vegas 42 main event, Max Holloway or Yair Rodriguez?
