Miesha Tate remained positive following her latest setback.
Tate’s second act in mixed martial arts suffered a roadblock as the former bantamweight champion was outpointed and battered by Ketlen Vieira over five rounds in the UFC Vegas 43 headliner last night.
Although it was close and Tate had her moments, Vieira was simply the better boxer as she continued to bruise and bloody her up with Tate’s left eye notably swelling shut.
In the end, it was obvious that Vieira had done enough to earn the unanimous decision victory with Tate suffering defeat for the first time since returning to action earlier this year.
However, Tate clearly had fun in there as evidenced by her post-fight interview.
It was even more evident in her post-fight statement on social media as “Cupcake” was taken to the hospital directly after her fight.
“Hey we had fun tonight!! I still feel like I evolved and in truth I was never tied to an outcome. Just happy to enjoy these moments. Thank you as always for the support and congratulations @KetlenVieiraUFC.”

UFC welterweight contender Michael Chiesa says he enjoyed his fight with Sean Brady at UFC Vegas 43 despite not getting the win.
Chiesa entered the fight looking to get back on track after a disappointing loss to Vicente Luque at UFC 265. However, Chiesa ran into a strong up-and-coming prospect in Brady that controlled the fight on the feet and in the grappling aspect as well.
Despite suffering the unanimous decision defeat, Chiesa had some strong moments and nearly finished the fight in the final seconds. Afterwards, Chiesa praised Brady for the win while also remaining optimistic about his fighting future.
“Disappointed I didn’t get the win tonight but I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t have fun out there,” Chiesa said. “Nothing but respect for [Sean Brady] and the Philly crew. The goal remains the same. I’ll be back stronger than ever in 2022.”
Michael Chiesa Has Lost Two In A Row After Winning Four Straight
Chiesa was arguably the hottest welterweight in the division before losing to Luque, having won four straight over the likes of Rafael dos Anjos and Neil Magny. He was close to securing a first-round submission against Luque before Luque reversed position and caught Chiesa in a brabo choke.
Chiesa made the move to welterweight after an up-and-down tenure at lightweight, which included several brutal weight cuts. He moved up to 170 pounds in 2018.
At 33 years old, Chiesa remains one of the most dangerous welterweights in the UFC, with some of the best grappling in the division. He has also showcased vast improvements in his standup and looked fast against Brady.
After a pair of setbacks to wrap up 2021, Chiesa will look ahead to 2022 to get back on track and snap a two-fight losing skid.

Sean Brady has caved and called out who he wants for his next fight.
In the UFC Vegas 43 co-main event, Sean Brady picked up the biggest win of his career when he defeated Michael Chiesa via unanimous decision. The post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier was one full of awkwardness, with Cormier strongly nudging Brady to call out his next opponent before the double-champ seemed to forget Brady’s name as he was making his way back to the commentator’s table.
During the post-fight press conference, Brady had a playful exchange with the “disrespectful” Cormier about the name blank and would later give in to Cormier’s nudging by calling out who he would like to face next.
“I think the winner of Belal [Muhammad] and Wonderboy [Stephen Thompson] would be fun. I don’t know what they’re both ranked, but I know they’re both in the top 10. I know the rankings come out on Tuesday. I’m sure I’m gonna land somewhere in the top 10. And then, yeah, we go from there.”
Brady entered the fight as the #14-ranked welterweight, with Chiesa being ranked #6. Brady is now 15-0 and is 5-0 in the UFC, so it should be interesting to see just how much disruption the ranking panel allows him to make in the talent-deep top 10.
The bout between Stephen Thompson (#5) and Belal Muhammad (#9) is scheduled to take place on December 18 in what will serve as the final card of the year. That event will be headlined by Derrick Lewis taking on Chris Daukaus.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Miesha Tate is taking a ‘glass half full’ approach when it comes to her loss to Ketlen Vieira at UFC Vegas 43.
Tate was looking to continue her positive momentum following her win over Marion Reneau earlier this year. Despite having her fair share of positive moments against Vieira, she lost by a unanimous decision and suffered substantial damage late in the fight.
Tate seemed to have a forward-thinking attitude about her performance in the Octagon during her post-fight interview, and that continued on social media. In a post on her Instagram story, Tate provided a quick update on her health and wellbeing.
“Hey we had fun tonight!” Tate said. “I still feel like I evolved and in truth, I was never tied to an outcome. Just happy to enjoy these moments. Thank you as always for the support and congratulations [Vieira].”
This Was Miesha Tate’s Second Fight Since Ending Retirement
Tate is still appearing to shake off ring rust after a five-year hiatus from the sport. She abruptly announced her retirement following back-to-back losses to Amanda Nunes and Raquel Pennington.
Tate earned the bantamweight title against Holly Holm at UFC 196, in arguably one of the best comebacks in UFC history. She is regarded as one of the main pioneers of women’s MMA, including her infamous rivalry with Ronda Rousey.
After announcing her retirement, Tate took a position with ONE Championship and made the move overseas to Singapore. Now, she trains out of Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas and appears to have a newfound appreciation for competition.
While it’s unclear how quickly Tate will look to return to the Octagon, she’s still interested in potential rematches with Nunes and Holm before her career ends. To make that happen, she’ll look to get back in the win column in her next fight.

UFC flyweight Cody Durden has responded to the swift and heavy backlash for saying he sent his defeated opponent “back to China.”
Yesterday on the UFC Vegas 43 preliminary card, Cody Durden defeated Chinese opponent Qileng Aori via unanimous decision. This was Durden’s first victory in the UFC, which means that it called for his first post-fight interview. And boy, did he make it a memorable one.
“I knew he was going to be tough, but I had to send him back to China where he came from,” Durden told a speechless Daniel Cormier after the fight.
It should come as little surprise that the post-fight interview ended there. And it should come as even less surprise that this comment was met with some major backlash. Here’s a quick glimpse at some fighters’ reactions on Twitter:
Cody Durden Responds To Backlash
After emotions cooled down some on his end, Durden took to Twitter himself to explain his post-fight remark and respond to the criticism it incited.
“Listen, the guy was disrespectful, and wouldn’t shake my hand at the weigh ins. After beating him, I simply meant he could go home wherever that may have been. I apologize if I offended anyone, that certainly was not my intention!! I love you all! See you at the top,” Durden tweeted.
During a post-fight media scrum, Durden went on to express that if anyone truly has a problem with his words, they can do something about it inside the Octagon.
“No, man, if they don’t like it, do somethin’. Sign the contract,” Durden said. “It doesn’t matter to me. I said what I said, and it is what it is. And yeah, emotions were high. It’s the fight business, you know? He was punching me in the face and I was punching him in the face. It’s his family or mine. And tonight, my family eats.”
Don’t Like It? Fight It Out
Durden’s comments are consistent with that of Dana White’s stance on how to handle controversial remarks, which is, essentially, to just fight it out. One recent example of this came when Israel’s Oron Kahlon called Afghanistan’s Javid Basharat a “terrorist” prior to their Contender Series bout last month. After Basharat defeated Kahlon, White considered it “justice served” and further exemplification that the UFC is the place to settle all scores.
In this case, Durden was the victor, so White may have to amend his UFC “justice system,” if you will. In any event, there are, in fact, people wanting to fight Durden, but one of them wanted to fight him even before his viral post-fight interview, that being Jeff Molina.
Molina was among those who reacted to Durden’s post-fight interview, as you can see below:
“Dudes a real POS, I’ll gladly punch him in the face!!”
Durden also called out Molina in the post-fight interview prior to his “go back to China” comment. He later doubled down on this selection when speaking to reporters after the fight.
“Yeah, Jeff Molina. I’ve called out a lot of guys on Instagram, a lot of guys on Twitter, and most of them don’t respond, man,” Durden said. “They don’t say anything back. But props to El Jeffy. He said he’s gonna put his nuts on my head as I nose dive for a takedown, and I’m holding him to it. Let’s run it.”
Both men are in, so now it’s up to the UFC to make it official. Or perhaps Dana White will seek out a Chinese flyweight, either currently signed or unsigned, to attempt to exact “justice” on Durden instead.
What do you think? Was Durden’s comments out of bounds? Or are people overreacting and/or taking it out of context?

Sean O’Malley has his eyes on UFC bantamweight rising star Adrian Yanez.
Yanez made it eight wins on the trot by defeating Davey Grant via split decision at UFC Vegas 43 on Saturday. The Fight of the Night performance was the first time Yanez has gone the distance in the UFC, having claimed four KO victories since entering the promotion via Dana White’s Contender Series in August last year.
And it appears the eyes of many, including one of the bantamweight division’s biggest stars, were on Yanez. Following his victory, Sean O’Malley sent out a cryptic tweet declaring his intention to step into the octagon in March—a prospect that will entail a short turnaround given “Suga” is set to face Raulian Paiva at UFC 269 on December 11.
“March,” tweeted O’Malley.
O’Malley, the self-proclaimed “face of the fight game,” has of course one of the largest social media followings in all of MMA. And among the teeming masses following his every musing on Twitter appears to be Aljamain Sterling.
The bantamweight champ, who was cageside at UFC Vegas 43 and even personally congratulated Yanez, took time out to glance at his phone during proceedings, and fire off a reply to O’Malley.
“Who you Trynna fight, champ?” tweeted Sterling.
When “Suga” sends out a tweet, you can typically expect no more than a few words. And his response to the champ was no different.
“Yanez, champ,” tweeted O’Malley.
Despite looming over the UFC as one of its biggest rising stars, “Suga” is yet to crack the bantamweight division’s top 15. The 27-year-old is 5-1 in the promotion, having most recently defeated Thomas Almeida and Kris Moutinho.
What do you think? Is Sean O’Malley the right matchup for Adrian Yanez?
