Emerging as a knockout force at the light heavyweight limit, surging division finisher, Khalil Rountree allegedly knocked out former division champion, Lyoto Machida earlier in his mixed martial arts career, according to UFC analyst and desk host, Karen Bryant.

Rountree, who is likely set to crack the light heavyweight division’s top-10 come the release of the new rankings tomorrow, turned in his fifth consecutive victory at UFC Vegas 83 over the course of the weekend in a co-main event return.

Landing his fifth consecutive win and fourth knockout stoppage as part of that impressive winning streak, Rountree stopped former title challenger, Anthony Smith with a third round knockout win at the UFC Apex facility.

The victory came as Rountree’s ninth career knockout from thirteen total wins, adding to prior stoppages of Chris Daukaus, Modestas Bukauskas, Gokhan Saki, and Paul Craig of note during his Octagon tenure.

And staking his claim for a big-name fight in his next walk, during the UFC Vegas 83 post-fight show, Rountree appeared to have been caught on the spot – with above-mentioned analyst, Bryant alluding to footage she obtained of the Californian knocking out Brazilian icon and former light heavyweight champion, Machida earlier in his career

Laying out his immediate plans for the future, The Ultimate Fighter alum, Rountree claimed fans are clamouring for a light heavyweight title fight between himself and incumbent gold holder, Alex Pereira in the near future

“Say they [the UFC] put me at number ten and not number eight, where Anthony (Smith) was – so from nine up, in my opinion, and i think in the fans’ opinion, the most exciting fight would be me versus (Alex) Pereira,” Khalil Rountree told assembled media after UFC Vegas 83. “That’s just what I’ve seen from comments. After Alex’s win, I got flooded, people tagging me, and I think it makes sense.”

Song Yadong Petr Yan UFC Vegas 83

After a smothering victory over the red-hot Chris Gutierrez at UFC Vegas 83, Song Yadong continued to show off his newly-found apparent mastery of the English language by absolutely flaming the former UFC bantamweight champion on live-TV: Petr Yan.

Song Yadong came into UFC Vegas 83 in dire need of a victory. Not only did Yadong emerge from the cage victorious, but he also emerged as a young superstar. While many hardcore fans might have been sold on the young Chinese fighter for many years now, the casual MMA fan now knows the potential of this young stud. While the fight may have been gritty and lackluster in many places, it was still a beautiful exhibition of skill.

Song Yadong mixed the martial arts he’s been refining for many years into an elegant blend of sinister mayhem at UFC Vegas 83. He was everywhere, and nowhere at all. The elite and dangerous Chris Gutierrez came into the match with what some may call the world’s largest chip on his shoulder. He was fighting for his child; in an effort to prove his worth as a parent, and an adversary. These are words not chosen by us, but shared by Gutierrez himself in the leadup to the match.

Yet, Yadong was an indomitable force inside the cage. For as much emotion as Gutierrez carried into the matchup, it was ruled ineffective. Song Yadong defeated his opponent with a masterful blend of mixed martial arts. Nothing more, and nothing less.

The former bantamweight champion Petr Yan reacted to the fight with a yawning emoji, but that’s most likely to disguise Yan’s real feelings. Which, one could imagine would look a lot more like the flushed-face emoji. An emoji that is commonly used to show fear and awe.

Song Yadong burns Petr Yan, issues a warning to the former bantamweight champion

During his post-fight interview, the former champion Petr Yan tweeted a yawning emoji. This was obviously in direct reference to Song Yadong’s performance.

Inside the cage, Paul Felder (who was conducting the interview) asked Yadong how he felt about that disrespect, and the young Chinese superstar reacted brilliantly. Without the need for his translator to finish speaking, Yadong sneered and took the microphone. “Your last fight too, bro,” Yadong replied casually. This inspired Felder and the translator to let loose a wild laugh, as many fans watching at home probably did at that same moment as well.

“Sheit, (you and your last fight) look sheit!” Song Yadong continued, in near-perfect English. “Sometimes, (people have lackluster performances) you know. (If we) fight next, I knock you out… Boxing, your boxing is good? Ok, let’s go. Let’s try it! Who has the heaviest hands?”

“I’m coming!” Song Yadong ended, in what was truly a glorious call-out. Following up on what was no doubt the biggest performance of his young career, Yadong also made sure to resonate with English-speaking fans more than he ever has before. This is important for an international superstar, as history has shown how fans can fail to appreciate greatness because of things such as language barriers.

How blown away were you by Song Yadong’s post-fight interview?

Off the back of last night’s standout win over former title challenger, Anthony Smith at UFC Vegas 83, surging light heavyweight contender, Khalil Rountree claims a championship showdown with division kingpin, Alex Pereira “makes sense” for him next.

Rountree, the current number eleven ranked light heavyweight contender – who is likely set to crack the division’s top 10 next week, turned in his fifth consecutive victory at UFC Vegas 83 overnight in a co-main event slot, laying waste to short-notice replacement, Smith with a thunderous third round TKO at the UFC Apex facility.

Alex Pereira called out by Khalil Rountree for UFC title fight

Turning in his fourth victory via knockout in his five most recent fights, The Ultimate Fighter alum, Rountree claimed a bout with Sao Paulo knockout artist, former middleweight champion-turned light heavyweight gold holder, Pereira makes total sense to him next.

“Two dynamic, powerful strikers, I don’t plan to shoot any takedowns,” Khalil Rountree explained. “I don’t think I’ve ever shot for a takedown in my career. I don’t think he’s necessarily going to shoot for any takedowns, because the guy’s a warrior. So, then you have two explosive, dynamic [strikers] in my mind, it just makes sense.”

Winning vacant light heavyweight spoils in the headliner of UFC 295 back in November, former middleweight kingpin, Pereira stopped former champion, Jiri Prochazka with a blistering second round knockout win at Madison Square Garden.

Surging light heavyweight contender, Khalil Rountree has turned in the most high-profile win of his mixed martial arts career to date, landing an eventual third round knockout win over former title challenger, Anthony Smith — as part of a now extended five-fight winning streak in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 83.

Rountree, the current number eleven ranked light heavyweight contender, landed his fight consecutive victory and fourth knockout stoppage in his five most recent fights, handing Smith a stoppage defeat with a perfectly-placed third round uppercut shot and follow-up left hand.

Adding to prior wins over the likes of Modestas Bukauskas, Dustin Jacoby, and a stoppage of Chris Daukaus, Rountree — an alum of The Ultimate Fighter, managed to bloody veteran Nebraska native, Smith in the first round around his right eye with a slew of well-placed strikes.

And having wobbled the former light heavyweight title challenger in the second round, Rountree then landed a third round stoppage over Smith, forcing him staggering backwards and eventually to the Octagon canvas courtesy of a right uppercut which came before a left hook shot.

Anthony Smith eyes title fight with Alex Pereira after UFC Vegas 83 win

Making a short-notice return to the Octagon at UFC Vegas 83 this weekend, one-time light heavyweight title challenger, Anthony Smith has voiced his desire to fight for the division’s crown once more, and no better opponent to attempt that feat against in the form of rival, Alex Pereira.

Smith, the current number eight ranked light heavyweight contender, has been sidelined since he featured in the co-main event of UFC Singapore back in August, landing a second split decision win over Ryan Spann in the pair’s rematch in Asia.

And booked to make a short-notice clash this weekend, Smith takes on The Ultimate Fighter alum, Khalil Rountree Jr. – tasked with snapping the violent light heavyweight finisher who has enjoyed an impressive four-fight winning streak.

Anthony Smith eyes title fight against Alex Pereira

Challenging for light heavyweight spoils back in 2019 in a one-sided decision shutout loss to Jon Jones, Nebraska native Smith claims he would position himself for a second title siege with a win this weekend over Rountree Jr. – claiming he would like to “validate” himself against the incumbent gold holder, Pereira.

“Since Jon (Jones) left [the light heavyweight division], the title’s been playing hot potato a little bit,” Anthony Smith told assembled media ahead of UFC Vegas 83. “All I’ve wanted is my journey to be recognised.”

“I think taking it off Alex (Pereira) would validate me,” Anthony Smith explained. “I don’t think anybody could really say anything about that. I think people would have to respect that.”

A former undisputed middleweight champion, Sao Paulo striker, Pereira landed the vacant light heavyweight crown at UFC 295 back in November, landing the championship with a second round TKO win over Czech Republic native and former titleholder, Jiri Prochazka at Madison Square Garden.
