Diego Sanchez and Martin KampmannAfter their bloody battle in the main event of UFC on Versus 3 on Thursday, Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann will need medical clearance before getting back to work.

The Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority confirmed with MMA Fighting on Monday that Sanchez, who won an instantly controversial unanimous decision, and Kampmann were both given indefinite medical suspensions following their fight. Sanchez needs to have his left orbital cleared by a doctor. Kampmann will need approval given on his right hand.

After the fight, Kampmann said he thought his hand was broken. But he posted on his Twitter feed on Friday that a doctor told him after the fight it was not – meaning his suspension could be lifted in short order.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – This is the UFC on Versus 3 live blog for Alessio Sakara vs. Chris Weidman, a middleweight main-card bout at the KFC Yum! Center in downtown Louisville, Ky.

Sakara (15-7, 1 NC, 6-4, 1 NC UFC), who trains at American Top Team, comes into the bout with a three-fight winning streak. He knocked out James Irvin last March at the UFC’s first Live on Versus card. Sakara has been on the shelf for nearly a year, despite several booked bouts, due to his father’s death, an injury and a bad case of the flu at UFC 122 in November.

Weidman (4-0) is Sakara’s third opponent for the card – Maiquel Falcao and Rafael Natal both pulled out with injuries. An All-American wrestler at Hofstra, Weidman trains with former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra in New York and is Ring of Combat’s middleweight champion.

Mark MunozLOUISVILLE, Ky. – Mark Munoz has never been shy about saying his standup is far from the best part of his MMA game – odd for a guy who had finished nearly half his fights courtesy of his hands.

Maybe he’ll start giving them a little more credit now. Thursday night in the co-main event of the UFC on Versus 3 card, Munoz needed just 54 seconds – and three big bombs – to shut down CB Dollaway.

“I’ve been working just strictly on my hands and on my standup,” Munoz said after the fight. “I’ve been working with my coaches, Abel Nunez and Rafael Cordeiro – I know I have power in my hands and if I touch you, you feel it.”

Brian BowlesLOUISVILLE, Ky. – If it had happened in a movie, the details surrounding the finish would’ve been so far-fetched no one would believe it.

After a layoff of nearly one year to the day, Brian Bowles returned to work Thursday night for a rematch that even he found to be a bit strange when offered to him. After all, his first fight with Damacio Page, some two and a half years prior, had ended with guillotine submission win for Bowles at 3:30 of the first round.

What more did Bowles need to prove against Page? That he could submit him with a guillotine again? Done. But with the same end time in the first? No. Too crazy to be believable. Except that’s what Bowles did at UFC on Versus 3. Not a bad way to make a UFC debut.

“When I heard (the time) at the end I thought, ‘Man, that sounds familiar,’ ” Bowles said after the win. “It’s a little ironic. I didn’t really catch on until in the back, everyone was telling me it was the same exact time, same submission, same everything – a little weird.”
