Carlos Condit Not the Contender by Default, Knows He Earned His Title-Shot

First off, we the MMA media would like to thank one, Nick Diaz for screwing up his shot at the title just so we could enjoy a nice breakfast with Carlos Condit this morning and.

First off, we the MMA media would like to thank one, Nick Diaz for screwing up his shot at the title just so we could enjoy a nice breakfast with Carlos Condit this morning and discuss his newly bestowed honor to face Georges St. Pierre,October 29th at UFC 137 for the Welterweight Champion belt. Yesterday, we learned from Dana White in a press conference that Condit was so overcome with emotion and tears that he could barely speak when offered the title-shot. Condit hung up the phone and called back 15 minutes later.

Today, we were surrounded by a calm collected very focused Carlos Condit who unlike the guy he’s replaced on the card, was very clear on his appreciation for this opportunity… not that he isn’t absolutely sure he deserves it. Condit says he was after that title once he defeated Don Hyun Kim (at UFC 132) and he expressed that he definitely has earned his shot.

Not much was said about Nick Diaz though he agreed with Georges St. Pierre that filling press tour obligations is a part of the job description of being a fighter. I asked UFC’s Director of Communications, Dave Sholler if he’d seen Nick Diaz ‘s You Tube video with Diaz saying he was on his way to the airport to fly to Vegas then learned he was pulled from the fight. Sholler said he had seen the video and the UFC has no comment. Ah but, I bet privately they have plenty.

Condit’s first phone call after hearing the news was to his father, who has been his life long supporter. Condit then called his wife, and what followed was a succession of phone calls to all his friends that have been there for him since the start of his career, the ones that travel to every fight and sleep in bathtubs in hotel rooms, make financial sacrifices, just to be able to see him and cheer him on. It was something that echoed Georges St. Pierre’s sentiments yesterday when he was baffled by Diaz’s behavior. If you don’t do it for yourself, do it for your family and the people that stand by you.

No trash-talk will be tossed around in the weeks ahead leading to this title fight. These are just two very talented men that respectfully cannot wait to face each other. Though both fighters have trained with Greg Jackson under his camp, neither are expecting to work with him. Condit will instead be training with Mike Winkeljohn who had been preparing Jon Jones to defend his title against Rashad Evans when Jackson refused to train either fighter for that bout. [Jones had injured his thumb and pulled out of that fight.] Though Condit acknowledges the significance of having Jackson in your corner, he is confident with his trainers, who he was already working with to face BJ Penn.

And what about BJ? Condit hasn’t heard from him and no word has yet to be released on who Penn will face as his replacement for the UFC 137 co-main event. But Dana says he is in the works to try to give Penn a great match up.

As for Nick Diaz, who at least said, “sorry I didn’t make it to the beauty pageant”… Well, actually we should all thank you, Diaz… I thank you not just for breakfast this morning, but for reminding me that it shouldn’t be about the most controversial match-ups, but it should be about two people who esteem all apects of their career as fighters, meeting one another in the cage to fulfill their biggest dreams.

Hump Day Headlines with Stephanie Ann Cook

Everyone in the world has learned (save for maybe Nick Diaz) that Dana White has replaced Diaz with Carlos Condit as the title-shot contender against Georges St. Pierre for UFC 137 due to Diaz’s no.

Everyone in the world has learned (save for maybe Nick Diaz) that Dana White has replaced Diaz with Carlos Condit as the title-shot contender against Georges St. Pierre for UFC 137 due to Diaz’s no call no show to the Las Vegas press conference and after failing to make it to the Toronto press conference yesterday.

Also and most disconcerting… No one has heard from Nick Diaz.

Greg Jackson will not train Georges St. Pierre nor Carlos Condit for their UFC 137 Main Event title bout.

Antonio Rodgrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir II booked for UFC 140 on December 10th.

M-1 Global sets up Fedor Emelianenko vs. Jeff Monson in Moscow.

UFC has announced their return to Japan this February 26, 2012. Dana White proudly spoke of the event:

“This February, the wait is finally over – the UFC is coming back to Japan. For fans in Japan who’ve never witnessed a UFC event live, this is going to be an incredible experience and one you won’t want to miss. It’s been over 10 years since a UFC event was held in Japan and we’re pumped to bring the fastest-growing sport in the world there once again.

Japan has played a huge role in helping get the sport of mixed martial arts to where it is today. UFC stars such as Rampage Jackson, Wanderlei Silva, Minotauro Nogueira and Mirko Cro Cop all made names for themselves fighting in PRIDE and dozens more fought in front of the passionate Japanese fans at some point in their careers.

Japan has also produced world-class fighters such as Yoshihiro Akiyama, Takanori Gomi and Yushin Okami, all of whom have represented their country well in the Octagon, headlining major UFC events all over the globe.”

Japan played host to four UFC events from 1997 to 2000 with the last event held being UFC 29. More information on the event to come.

The New York Post reported that famed boxer and Golden Boy Promotions founder, Oscar De La Hoya gave an interview to Univision detailing his troubles surrounding the leak of his drag pictures taken with model, Milana Dravnel. In the interview, De La Hoya says:

“Let me to tell you, yes, yes, it was me [in those pictures]… I am tired now of lying, of lying to the public and of lying to myself.”

De La Hoya admits to paying Dravnel $20 million dollars to make the pictures go away… which is strange since we all already saw them so that sounds like a waste of money. But it was all part of his scheme to deny the pictures and claim they were manipulated photos. De La Hoya says he was high on booze and cocaine at the time the pictures were taken. He was admitted into a rehab center in May to get his life back together.

One of these nights when I was drunk and alone again, I asked myself, ‘Is it worth it to be alive?’ I was already feeling like I had nothing. And what is going through your mind are your children, your wife, the people who love you.”

So hopefully, Oscar De La Hoya has gotten his life in order and we won’t see any more embarrassing pictures of the fighter in the future, because he didn’t look all that great in women’s underwear…

Anderson Silva’s First (and Maybe Last) Burger King Commercial (VIDEO)

Um… If you could have seen me when I watched Anderson Silva‘s Burger King Brazil commercial…you would have seen my mouth gaping and I don’t know…probably the same pained expression I gave when I watched.

Okay, it’s not that bad (though coincidentally enough, both 2 Girls 1 cup and this Burger King commercial are Brazilian productions). Anyhow, this commercial is pretty… Well… Watch it yourself:
