UFC 216 – Fabricio Werdum Vs. Derrick Lewis Predictions

Fabricio Werdum has had a pathetic year, and it is not an overstatement to say that he is desperate to turn things around. Well, come UFC 216 on October 7th, he will get the chance to do exactly that! Werdum is not getting younger, the 40 year old has almost a decade and a half […]

Fabricio Werdum has had a pathetic year, and it is not an overstatement to say that he is desperate to turn things around. Well, come UFC 216 on October 7th, he will get the chance to do exactly that! Werdum is not getting younger, the 40 year old has almost a decade and a half of experience under his belt, and so it is especially disappointing that he is nowhere close to being one of the UFC heavyweight title contenders.

Until his fight in July against Alistair Overeem, Werdum was actually in the running. However, his Alistair got the better of Werdum and buried Werdum’s title hopes for good. Sadly, affairs outside of the octagon haven’t exactly been positive for Werdum either. Dana White has been on his case for his lack of dominance and his advocate Ramzan Kadyrov’s alleged gay purge in Chechnya has also brought negative attention to the Werdum camp.

If Werdum does not get his act together, then things can go from bad to worse for him very quickly indeed. He is going to be up against Derrick Lewis. While Lewis might not be as experienced a fighter, his sheer strength and physicality makes him a force to be reckoned with. If Werdum fails to overcome Lewis, he can pretty much kiss his career goodbye. While there is little to salvage for Werdum, a loss could be disastrous. In a way, this is a high risk low reward fight which he just has to win. If there is one thing he has going for him, the bookkeepers and their odds seem to back him up as favorite to win this fight.

Werdum’s greatest strength is his grappling abilities. He will be looking to get the fight to the mat as soon as possible. His opponent Lewis is not exactly known for his grappling abilities.

For our prediction, we will stick with a Werdum victory via submission.

UFC 216 – Demetrious Johnson Vs. Ray Borg Predictions

Demetrious Johnson Vs. Ray Borg should have happened in UFC 215 and was drafted on the fight card as one of the two title fights for UFC 215, but Borg fell ill and was forced to call it off. However, the fight is now rescheduled and will add to the excitement at UFC 216 come […]

Demetrious Johnson Vs. Ray Borg should have happened in UFC 215 and was drafted on the fight card as one of the two title fights for UFC 215, but Borg fell ill and was forced to call it off. However, the fight is now rescheduled and will add to the excitement at UFC 216 come October 7th. Had it not been for the rescheduling, there is no doubt that this would have been the highlight of the evening, but promoters had already gotten behind the Tony Ferguson Vs. Kevin Lee fight for UFC 216 and so they are going to keep it that way.

From the standpoint of the fans, however, watching Johnson take on Borg may just be selling point for UFC 216. Borg is a solid fighter who certainly hasn’t received the spotlight and respect he deserves from the UFC. The UFC and Dana White wanted to pit Champ Demetrious Johnson against TJ Dilshaw instead of against Borg despite the fact that Borg was higher in terms of rankings that Dilshaw.

Borg has evolved as a fighter over the years and has really made himself a force to be reckoned with. While his record may not seem all that impressive on paper, the reality is rather different. The ease and domination with which he won against reputable fighters is what has been really eye catching about Borg.

UFC 216 – Tony Ferguson Vs. Kevin Lee – Title Fight Predictions

UFC 216 is now just around the corner and all focus is on the title fight where Tony Ferguson will take on Kevin Lee for the coveted interim lightweight title. UFC 216 will go down on October 7th and despite the postponement of the Demetrious Johnson Vs.  Ray Borg fight for the flyweight title, the […]

UFC 216 is now just around the corner and all focus is on the title fight where Tony Ferguson will take on Kevin Lee for the coveted interim lightweight title. UFC 216 will go down on October 7th and despite the postponement of the Demetrious Johnson Vs.  Ray Borg fight for the flyweight title, the highlight of the evening will still be Ferguson Vs. Kevin Lee.

The Johnson Vs. Borg fight was initially scheduled for UFC 215, but unfortunately Borg had no choice but to withdraw due to sickness and the fight has now been pushed to be included as part of the fight card for UFC 216. However, it is apparent that as the fight night draws closer, the promotion is still behind the Ferguson Vs. Lee fight and have not jumped ship to the Johnson Vs. Borg fight.

Ferguson is coming into this fight frustrated by the fact that he has waited a long time to take on Russian rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, but has not been able to since Nurmagomedov has been out of action. Instead, Ferguson will get a chance to prove himself against Lee who is most certainly a worthy challenger to say the least.

Lee is currently ranked 7th as per the official UFC rankings. He last fight was a victory against Michael Chiesa, albeit a controversial one. However, a lot of people still feel Lee does not have what it takes to beat Ferguson, going by past records and stats. Ferguson is the strong favorite going into this fight. Lee has shown good form recently, but Ferguson is just plain stronger and has experience fighting against some of the best of the sport such as Rafael dos Anjos, Edson Barboza and Josh Thompson. Having said that, it would be ill advised to write off Lee, he might be the underdog here, but he certainly has what it takes to cause an upset.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT 215 – Undercard Bouts

Illir Latifi vs. Tyson Pedro Ryan Bader with his flying knee really put the nail in the coffin by sending Latifi’s already downward headed ranking out of the top ten. Bader has gone on to become the Bellator champ since then and Latifi on the other hand has a chance to make somewhat of a […]

Illir Latifi vs. Tyson Pedro

Ryan Bader with his flying knee really put the nail in the coffin by sending Latifi’s already downward headed ranking out of the top ten. Bader has gone on to become the Bellator champ since then and Latifi on the other hand has a chance to make somewhat of a comeback when he faces Tyson Pedro. If Latifi gets the better of Pedro in UFC Fight Night 215, he will find himself back in the top ten and that is probably the only thing on his mind right now!

Ashlee Evans-Smith vs. Sarah Moras

Both these fighters have struggled with their UFC careers thus far. At least for one of them, that is about to change at UFC 215. It is not inexperience which has let them down, both these women have a ton of fights under their belts and have yet failed to showcase any real improvement. From the looks of it, the loser here could be on her way out of UFC and into Invicta. Smith has been fighting regularly but the results haven’t turned out as she may have hoped while on the other hand, Moras has had dry spells while out injured.

Gavin Tucker vs. Rick Glenn

Glenn returned to the UFC on UFC fight night 208, but his returning fight did not go the way he would have hoped. The former WSOF featherweight champ really struggled to get going. On the other hand, Tucker made an impressive UFC debut in February and will look to put on just as impressive a fight when he comes up against Glenn. This is going to be a very unpredictable match up, and we will just have to wait and see how it plays out.

Kajan Johnson vs. Adriano Martins

The infamous Kajan Johnson is back after a two month sabbatical. He was thrown out of the UFC athlete retreat after having rejected the Reebok deal. The question on everyone’s mind is if he has been training and kept himself well conditioned, or has he slipped and gotten out of shape? His opponent is going to be Adriano Martins who has been a consistent performer thus far and will certainly be a worthy challenge for Johnson on his return.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT 215 – Notable Bouts

Sara McMann vs. Ketlen Vieira McMann’s recent form has been pretty flawless, so much so that her losses to Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, and Amanda Nunes seems like they happened an eternity ago. Sara McMann vs. Ketlen Vieira
McMann’s recent form has been pretty flawless, so much so that her losses to Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, and Amanda Nunes seems like they happened an eternity ago. McMann looks confident and strong, and it is certainly going to take some serious talent and skills to put an end to her momentum. Time, however, is not on McMann’s side, she is 36 years old and so she certainly does not have too many years of competitive fighting ahead of her to look forward to. Whatever she wants to be and prove, this is her time now to do it at UFC 215.
On the other side of the octagon is going to be Ketle Vieira. Vieira is not exactly as well known and is considerably inexperienced in the UFC. She was promoted from the Brazilian MMA and her current record is an impressive 8 – 0.
We think Vieira is going to taste defeat for the first time in the UFC at the hands of McMann.
Neil Magny vs. Rafael Dos Anjos
Rafael Dos Anjos has moved weight divisions from lightweight to welterweight and his welterweight debut went pretty the way he would have hoped for. It was crucial that he get a win in the debut and he did. Anjos is considerably a more unknown fighter amongst the fans and he has never really gotten the spot light much. Now on UFC fight night 215, he is going to come up against Neil Magny who certainly is no push over.
Magny is solid all round, but we would still put our money on Rafeal Dos Anjos for this one, his experience should be enough to carry him through.
Jeremy Stephens vs. Gilbert Melendez
Gilbert Melendezs’ last three outings in the lightweight division have all been losses and he is now making a move to the featherweight division to hopefully churn out some victories there. Melendez will be looking to getting back to winning ways when he comes up against Wilson Reis.
Reis, you can rest assured, is not going to make it easy for Stephens. The Former EliteXC champion has been consistent so far and will make Melendez work for it!

UFC 215: Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko

September 9th has been announced as the date for UFC Fight Night 215 and the fight card is certainly appetizing. The title fight for the men is where Demetrious Johnson will be looking to defend his championship title for a record 11th time against second seeded Ray Borg. While on the women’s end too there […]

September 9th has been announced as the date for UFC Fight Night 215 and the fight card is certainly appetizing. The title fight for the men is where Demetrious Johnson will be looking to defend his championship title for a record 11th time against second seeded Ray Borg. While on the women’s end too there is a title up for the taking when Amanda Nunes comes up against Valentina Shevchenko.
This fight certainly has all eyes on it considering that it was actually scheduled to take place during UFC 213 itself. However, that ended up not happening as unfortunately Nunes pulled out citing an injury only hours before show time. Obviously, there was a lot of controversy about her decision to not fight, and the speculation mostly was premised around assumptions that Nunes pulled out not actually because of an injury but rather because she just got cold feet. However, it wasn’t long before the fight was rescheduled to take place in UFC 215 and now, it’s just around the corner.
These two have fought each other before back in 2015 when Nunes was able to amass enough points and then fend of late dominance by Shevchenko to be declared the winner by decision. However, what the women were back then is only a shadow of who they are today. They have both improved vastly in all aspects of their fighting and this time, it is going to be a whole different affair. They are both at the very top of the rankings for their weight division and it is certainly going to be a competitive affair.
In terms of predictions, we have some reference point here since a lot of predictions were made back during UFC 213, and that pretty much still holds true. Nunes might have got the better of Shevchenko back in 2015, but it was clear at the end of that bout that Shevchenko has the skills and endurance to give it back to Nunes, she just ran out of time. We believe she will go for it right from the go this time around. Shevchenko to win by unanimous decision.
