Former elite middleweight contender Uriah Hall has announced he is officially hanging up the gloves and walking away from his career as an MMA fighter.

‘Primetime’ has come up short in his last two walks to the UFC octagon, dropping decision losses to Sean Strickland and Andre Muniz. Prior to these losses, Uriah Hall had been riding a four fight winning streak, having picked up wins over Chris Weidman, Anderson Silva, Antônio Carlos Júnior and Bevon Lewis. He has previously picked up spectacular victories such as his highlight reel spinning jump back kick against Gegard Mousasi, as seen below:

Uriah Hall took to Instagram to make the following announcement:

“It is with great sadness that I will be stepping away from the greatest sport in the world. I’m going to miss the incredible UFC staff that has became like family and the mentors I have met along the way. The UFC has given me the Best opportunity to step completely outside my comfort zone. Throughout the years I’ve gone up against some of the best in the world at the highest level. Although I did not achieve the rank of world champion i’ve acquired some of my greatest achievements from mixed martial arts and that was facing my fears and being a champion in life. I want to thank the incredible fans, you guys made the sport what it is today.

It is important to have the right people around you that care for you and encourage you to become a better version of yourself. I want to thank my team my coaches my friends and my family always standing by me. You all have been the driving force that encouraged me daily. Lastly, I want to specifically thank Dana White for giving me the opportunity to collide with modern day gladiators. Thank you for always supporting me thru the good and the bad…To the next generation you are the top 1% greatest athlete’s on the planet. Will be a pleasure to watch where you all take this sport from here. I will be watching! Goforth.”

UFC middleweight veteran Uriah Hall has revealed he didn’t want to accept a fight against Sean Strickland last summer, but did because the promotion doesn’t like to hear the word ‘no’.

It’s approaching nine months since Hall last entered the Octagon. He did so last July at UFC Vegas 33 to headline against fellow contender Strickland. “Tarzan” rode a four-fight win streak and quick rise up the 185-pound ladder into his first main event. “Prime Time” was also coming off four straight triumphs, which included a win against Anderson Silva.

When they shared the cage, it was largely one-way traffic. Strickland used his jab to piece Hall up and leave the 37-year-old beaten and bruised. Despite coming close to being finished, the Jamaican-born American made it to the final horn, but lost the fight via unanimous decision (50–44, 50–45, 49–46).

Now, Hall has revealed that he didn’t actually want to be inside the Octagon with Strickland that night.

Hall: I Didn’t Have The Right Mindset To Fight Strickland

During a recent interview with Calf Kick Sports, Hall, the current #9-ranked middleweight, spoke about the nature of former UFC matchmaker Joe Silva. While Silva’s apparent threats and authoritarian nature are no longer present, Hall says that hasn’t changed the promotion’s frustration and attitude towards fight rejections.

Pinpointing his latest appearance, Hall said he wasn’t in the right mindset to fight Strickland, an opponent he also doesn’t believe made sense at the time. Nevertheless, “Prime Time” felt he had to take the bout because the UFC “don’t like when you say no.”

“When I lost to Sean Strickland, first of all, I didn’t wanna do that fight. Fine, UFC throw it down my throat, I’ll take it. Cause, you know, they don’t like when you say no,” said Hall. “I took it… But taking that fight, I was like—I just didn’t have the right mindset to get into it. It’s like, ‘I don’t want this? The guy’s behind me, it doesn’t make sense. I don’t wanna take this.’

“You can’t argue unless you have certain leverage, like a Conor (McGregor), or a Dustin (Poirier). A Conor who lost. He loses a bunch of fights and he’s fighting for the belt. Like, what?! But, it’s understandable; he’s got the leverage to do it. It sucks man. It f*cking sucks,” concluded Hall.

Recent developments in the lightweight division appear to support Hall’s belief. After his victory over Bobby Green in February, it seemed Islam Makhachev had secured his place behind Justin Gaethje in the queue for a title shot. The Dagestani and his mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov certainly believed as much.

However, after apparently turning down a fight against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 272 on less than a week’s notice, the promotion appeared to have a change of heart. UFC President Dana White announced that after he turned down the Brazilian, Makhachev will instead have his original February bout with Beneil Dariush re-arranged next.

Uriah Hall Goes “Quiet” After Darren Till Responds To “Scared” Comment

The heated exchange between Darren Till and Uriah Hall continues with the ball in Hall’s court.

Since last November, Hall has attempted to call out Till. Weeks went by without an answer from the Liverpool native. But now, Till is firing back on social media.

Recently, Hall accused Till of avoiding a fight with him. The #9 ranked middleweight called Till a few harsh terms and claimed he can easily beat him.

The accusation of ducking a fight prompted Till to counter on social media.

“@UriahHallMMA brother brother brother, you just did a interview saying I am scared of you? I jumped up to middleweight and straight off the bat fought 2 of the best middleweights there is in gastelum & Whittaker. I have never turned a fight down at WW or MW,” Darren responds.

Hall originally wanted Till for his next matchup but will face-off with the submission superstar André Muniz on April 16. So Hall will have to wait longer for his dream match with Till.

After two vicious defeats at welterweight, Till made the decision to bump up to middleweight. He saw success in his debut with a split-decision win against Kelvin Gastelum.

However, the success was short-lived as he lost against two of the division’s finest, Robert Whittaker and Derek Brunson.

It is uncertain why Till has yet to be seen in the Octagon since last September, though his team has revealed that he suffered a knee injury before his fight with Brunson.

Till might return on the London card in March, but that decision still floats in the air.

Till agrees with the matchup against Hall, but the timing is off. But as soon as Till is where he wants to be mentally and physically, he is willing to accept Hall as his opponent.

Till’s response to Hall saying he’s afraid to fight him meets crickets.

“@UriahHallMMA why you gone so quiet now that I’ve responded to you?” says Till.

Both fighters are coming off a loss and want to fight each other. The results of April 16 will help determine their future matchups and if these two middleweights can settle their beef in the cage later this year.
