Sean Strickland believes he’s found out the key to victory over Israel Adesanya.

Strickland is set to face Uriah Hall in the main event of UFC on ESPN 28 this Saturday, a week earlier than when the pair were originally supposed to meet at UFC 265.

The rising middleweight contender spoke to LowKick MMA’s James Lynch about the matchup. Strickland said that while a win over Hall puts him in a better position in the division, he still has his eyes on the bigger prize.

“Yeah, no doubt man. You beat Uriah, it puts you one or two fights from a title shot,” Strickland said. “I’m stoked, but again, I don’t really give a f— about that. I always like to say Uriah Hall is the off-brand Adesanya. If you can’t beat Uriah, you’re not going to beat Adesanya.”

As for how a fight between Adesanya and himself would play out, Strickland feels that the key is to not get too pretty against the champion. He thinks that the only way to beat Adesanya is to make it a dog fight and put him in positions where he is less comfortable.

“Adesanya, he’s one of the best strikers in the f—ing world, man,” he said. “He’s another guy that its like, you’re not going to go and outpoint Adesanya. You’re not going to go and out strike Adesanya. You have to go out there and f—ing fight him. Same with Uriah Hall. I’m not going to go out there and play tag with Uriah Hall. If I’m going to do that, he’s going to catch me. I’m going to go in there and fight Uriah Hall. I’m going to go in there and fight Adesanya.”

Strickland has been hot since joining the middle ranks in October 2020. He’s reeled off 3 consecutive wins over Jack Marshman, Brendan Allen and Krzysztof Jotko. An impressive win over Hall would surely have him knocking on the door to contendership, and we could find out just how effective his strategy against Adesanya will be.

Sean Strickland is set to face off against his friend, Uriah Hall, at UFC Vegas 33 on July 31.

Ahead of the eagerly anticipated middleweight main event, Strickland has been reminiscing about his old training sessions with the Ultimate Fighter runner-up.

“I consider Uriah a friend of mine,” Strickland told LowKickMMA. “Not only (did I train with him) at Xtreme Couture but also back in Reign when Mark Munoz was throwing down. I’ve trained with him a lot, he was actually a guy I didn’t really like to train with because he was kind of a f*cking d*ck. The things he threw were so dangerous and he had like no control of it. So, when you spar Uriah, you have to fight Uriah to shut that down.”

Despite having enjoyed a friendly relationship Strickland insists he had no hesitation accepting a fight against ‘Primetime’.

The 30-year-old will enter UFC Vegas 33 with a true understanding of just how dangerous his opponent and just how badly this fight could potentially go for him

“Uriah’s path to success if catching me,” Strickland said. “He’s a very dangerous man and if I fuck up you’re gonna see me waking up on the canvas, that’s a likely possibility.

On the flip side, Strickland has a very clear game plan in mind for fighting Hall.

“My path to success it like cutting down a tree and I’m a f*cking axe, man. I just gotta keep hitting it over and over again, from round one to round five, just say in his face. And he knows that. Maybe (I’ll) throw in a takedown here and there. He knows that. He’s going to try and catch me and I’m going to try to beat him to death.

Who do you think takes the UFC Vegas 33 main event? Sean Strickland or Uriah Hall?

Chris Weidman

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has a long road to recovery after suffering a brutal leg break at UFC 261 against Uriah Hall, but he made a big step in the right direction earlier this week in the process.

Just two months after his injury and surgery, Weidman is back in the gym doing play-boxing and other low-impact exercises. Weidman is expected to be out for the next 4-6 months minimum but is already on the right track to eventually making his return to competition.

In a recent appearance on Michael Bisping‘s “Believe You Me” podcast, Weidman provided lots of good news in regards to his recovery and outlook for his fighting future.

“It’s been pretty damn brutal, as you can imagine. It completely sucks but I will say, I was actually in the gym today,” Weidman said. “I boxed a little bit. I figured I was going to go to the gym and hit the bag for like a minute and then put my leg up, elevate it and just chill out, just be happy to be in the gym, but there were some guys around and we started to play sparring and I was like, ‘Man, this is awesome!’ It felt so good to be back in the gym.”

“So that was a big day for me, but it’s been a crazy road.”

This is excellent news for Weidman as many thought that he wouldn’t be able to make a full return to the UFC after the leg break. Weidman is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished middleweights in UFC history with a four-fight reign as the UFC middleweight champion as well as a plethora of fight night bonuses.

While it remains unclear as to if/when Weidman will fully recover from his injury and make a return to the UFC octagon, it’s encouraging to see that he is on the right track physically and mentally after one of the most devastating injuries in recent memory.

Do you think Chris Weidman can still return as a UFC middleweight contender?
