UFC 132 Results: What’s Next for Ryan Bader with a Loss

Bleacher Report’s Sean Smith

UFC 132 will take place on Saturday, July 2 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.  The main event will feature the first UFC bantamweight title fight ever as Dominick Cruz defends his title against the only feature to ever defeat him, Urijah Faber.

The co-main event will feature the long awaited return of Wanderlei Silva, who is set to face Chris Leben.  Also appearing on the main card will be Tito Ortiz who will be fighting for his UFC career when he faces Ryan Bader.

Coming off of a loss to Jon Jones, Ryan Bader asked for a fight with Tito Ortiz. After initially scoffing at the idea, Ortiz accepted the fight with Bader as his last chance to get back on track in the UFC.

While most of the focus has been on what would happen to Ortiz should he lose this fight, a loss for Bader would be extremely damaging as well.

If Bader were to lose to Ortiz, he would have dropped two straight fights and could be fighting for his job in his next fight. Having been a former winner of The Ultimate Fighter, the UFC would most likely do everything in their power to keep Bader relevant, though.

If Bader were to lose against Ortiz, he would most likely be set up with an extremely winnable fight against a fighter like Stephan Bonnar or Krzysztof Soszynski.

UFC 132 Results: What’s Next for Dennis Siver with a Win

Bleacher Report’s Sean Smith

UFC 132 will take place on Saturday, July 2 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.  The main event will feature the first UFC bantamweight title fight ever as Dominick Cruz defends his title against the only feature to ever defeat him, Urijah Faber.

The co-main event will feature the long awaited return of Wanderlei Silva, who is set to face Chris Leben.  Also appearing on the main card will be Tito Ortiz who will be fighting for his UFC career when he faces Ryan Bader.

After defeating George Sotiropoulos in his last fight, Dennis Siver became widely regarded as a lightweight contender. Many expected that Siver would land a fight with a big-name opponent, but he will be fighting the underrated Matt Wiman at UFC 132.

With Wiman being a wrestler, Siver’s takedown defense will be tested even more than it had been in his fight with Sotiropoulos. If Siver passes the test once again, he can rest assured that his next fight will be against another contender.

Currently, the top of the lightweight division is log-jammed with the injury of UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar, so there are plenty of options for Siver if he defeats Wiman. Some potential matchups include welcoming Sean Sherk back to the Octagon or a battle between diverse strikers with Anthony Pettis.

Round 5: Faber’s cornerman sends him out for the final round with passionate pleas to go be a champion. They go right to work again, and Cruz tries for a takedown that leads to him briefly taking Faber’s back before they end up back in the clinch. Faber tries a knee and Cruz tosses him off, but nearly gets himself caught in a guillotine looking for Faber’s legs. Faber comes in with a hook and Cruz ducks under for a takedown. He gets it, but as soon as Faber’s back hits the mat he’s on the move and scrambling up. Cruz is just a move or two behind, and can’t hold on to the slippery Faber. Cruz wings a body punch and Faber sticks him with a right hook. Cruz takes a deep breath and Faber tries a kick to the head that misses. Cruz trips him to the mat, but Faber is up in a flash. Another trip takedown for Cruz, and again Faber is up. There’s less than 20 seconds left, and this one is going to come down to the wire. Cruz tries one last shot, but gets stonewalled against the fence. The horn sounds, and Faber immediately sticks his hand in the air to declare himself the winner. Cruz gets to his feet and does the same. Somebody’s going home disappointed. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Cruz.

Bleacher Report’s: Cody Slovensky

UFC 132 will take place on Saturday, July 2 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.  The main event will feature the first UFC bantamweight title fight ever as Dominick Cruz defends his title against the only feature to ever defeat him, Urijah Faber.

The co-main event will feature the long awaited return of Wanderlei Silva, who is set to face Chris Leben.  Also appearing on the main card will be Tito Ortiz who will be fighting for his UFC career when he faces Ryan Bader.

Wanderlei Silva (33-10-1 1NC) is a Mixed Martial Artist who has been fighting for over ten years. He started his career with bare knuckle Vale Tudo fights and worked his way up from there. He is in the top three of greatest Pride fighters of all time and easily top 10 of overall alltime.

His record inside of the UFC isn’t the prettiest, but his overall career speaks for itself.

He is coming off of an extremely impressive performance at UFC 112 in Austrailia against Michael Bisping. He hasn’t fought in over a year, due to injuries.

After receiving surgery on his nose, starting a healthier diet and making the drop to middleweight, Wanderlei has shown that he isn’t done just yet.

UFC 132 Results: What’s next for Dominick Cruz with a Loss?

Bleacher Report’s Andrew Barr:

UFC 132 will take place on Saturday, July 2 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.  The main event will feature the first UFC bantamweight title fight ever as Dominick Cruz defends his title against the only feature to ever defeat him, Urijah Faber.

The co-main event will feature the long awaited return of Wanderlei Silva, who is set to face Chris Leben.  Also appearing on the main card will be Tito Ortiz who will be fighting for his UFC career when he faces Ryan Bader.

Dominick Cruz will defend his bantamweight championship for the first time in the UFC this Saturday.

His opponent will be the only man to ever defeat him, Urijah Faber.

This is a very highly anticipated match up and serious contender for Fight of the Night. That’s saying a lot, given that the card also features a bout between Wanderlei Silva and Chris Leben.

Cruz’ first performance against Urijah was a disappointing one because Dominick was winning the fight standing and then decided to go for a takedown and that’s where he got himself into trouble. Shortly after Dominick went for the takedown, Faber caught him with a guillotine choke and ended the fight.

Now that Cruz has a better idea of what strategy he should be using against Urijah, he will be looking to redeem himself and retain his belt.

However, if Dominick Cruz once again fails to defeat Urijah Faber, what’s next for him?

A third match with Joseph Benavidez is a possibility, if Joseph beats Eddie Wineland in August.

Dominick and Joseph have fought twice before and their most recent bout went to a split decision, with Cruz walking away the victor. A third fight might give fans a more decisive answer as to who the better fighter is.

If Benavidez loses to Wineland, then a match up between Wineland and Cruz is also highly possible.

Match ups against Brian Bowles and Demetrious Johnson would also make sense. Both are elite fighters and victories against them would be a big help in getting Dominick back in the title hunt.
