NEWARK, N.J. — Between fights, the rumors came fast and furious for Urijah Faber. Was he going to face Dominick Cruz in a grudge rematch? Was he going to coach the next season of The Ultimate Fighter? Maybe the UFC would match him up with a contemporary who once ruled WEC’s bantamweight title, Miguel Torres?
But when the time came, the decision was a wild card: Eddie Wineland.
The response from many fans was one word: Who?
Wineland is arguably one of the most anonymous of the former WEC champions who came over to the UFC, but it’s not for lack of effort or success. The Indiana-based fighter has had memorable knockouts in each of his last two fights, and has captured six of his last seven. By comparison, Faber is 3-3 in his last six fights. Despite that, Wineland is a massive underdog as both bantamweights make their UFC debuts.
NEW YORK — MMA Fighting spoke to Eddie Wineland at Wednesday’s UFC 128 pre-fight press conference at Radio City Music Hall about getting a chance to fight in one of the biggest bantamweight fights ever against Urijah Faber, his UFC debut, the lack of attention he’s received going into the fight and whether he will ever leave his other full-time job as a firefighter.

It wasn’t long ago when fans solely restricted to a North American MMA diet, finally caught wise to the fact that Chan Sung Jung (or better known as “The Korean Zombie”), was the kind of fighter you put your meeting, kids graduation and or wedding on hold to watch fight. If you still haven’t seen his WEC 48 bout with Leonard Garcia last April, drop everything now and immediately seek out footage.
Of course, the fanfare surrounding Jung experienced a little hiccup in September, when George Roop viciously demonstrated with a head kick that the South Korean fighter is in fact, not a zombie, but hell; no one’s going to be changing a nickname that good anytime soon.
So what’s the latest news on the Zombie? Since he was forced to pull out of his January tilt with Rani Yahya in January, the featherweight has apparently been putting some time in with Team Alpha Male. Yup, you could do a lot worse in terms of training partners. For more on that, head to the Garv here.
In addition, it seems that former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber has been giving (wink, wink) Jung some English lessons (more winks). In a very entertaining vid released by Faber and his crew, Jung proves to be a brilliant student in picking up the finer points of the English language, most importantly, pick up lines. To check out the vid head here.
Now, if you want to throw a little dough down on Faber’s upcoming bout with Eddie Wineland, which should be pretty sweet, go here.

Interest in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix is not solely limited to fans. The fighters, too, will be keeping an eye on the field of eight over the next few months. Even the fighters in the UFC.
Among those is Urijah Faber, the ex-WEC featherweight champ who will be making his UFC debut as a bantamweight at UFC 128.
Faber — a student of the game who calls Japanese fighter Kazushi Sakuraba his favorite fighter of all time — was recently asked about his pick to win the tournament, and he went with the legendary Russian mixed martial artist Fedor Emelianenko.
