Coming off her upset unanimous decision loss to Valentina Shevchenko at UFC on FOX 20 last month, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm has undergone successful thumb surgery to repair her injured thumb Holm’s manager Lenny Fresquez told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto:

“She had eight pins inserted into her hand,” Fresquez said. “We’d still like to fight by the end of the year. As far as an opponent, we’ll have to see who comes up. Whoever she fights, Holly needs to take care of business.”

‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ will be unable to use her left hand for six weeks according to doctors orders.

Holm, previously undefeated in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA), reached the height of her career after defeating the then-seemingly invincible rock star of MMA Ronda Rousey with a pulverizing head kick in the second round of their title meeting last November.

Following what was possibly the biggest upset in MMA history, Holm would go on to suffer an upset loss of her own when she was choked out in the fifth round of her first career title defense against Miesha Tate at UFC 196 this past March.

Valentina Shevchenko vs Holly HolmAfter the upsetting loss Holm would attempt to bounce back against Shevchenko, but would instead be dominated by the Russian Muay Thai specialist for the last four rounds of their contest.

It should be interesting to see how the UFC books the former bantamweight champ upon her return, which according to Fresquez, is targeted to be by the year’s end. If Cris Cyborg hadn’t been already linked to a fight with Lina Lansberg, a long-anticipated bout with Holm would certainly be an interesting pairing. For now we’ll just have to wait and see.

What many expected to turn into a technically sound stand-up battle between two of the UFC’s most highly decorated strikers was just that.

Former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm and multiple time muay thai champion Valentina Shevchenko put on a five round war, and the result may not have been what most mixed martial arts (MMA) fans expected.

The opening round saw the former 135-pound champ seem to get the better of Shevchenko, as she dropped her with a clean right hand to the chin.

Shevchenko was able to regroup, however, and the following four rounds would go on to be 20-minutes of the Kyrgyzstani picking apart Holm with excellent timing and counter strikes.

To no surprise to those watching the lopsided affair, Shevchenko would take home a unanimous decision victory and proceeded to call out current bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes to a rematch for the title.

UFC women’s bantamweight starlet and WMC Muay Thai champion Valentina Schevchenko has been caught up in a harrowing situation in Peru. It happened last night (Monday May 30, 2016) in a restaurant that has apparently been a big target for armed robberies over the recent years. Schevchenko was with her coach Pavel Fodotov at the time, and he caught a bullet to the abdomen during the incident.

Three armed robbers took the establishment by storm, running in with their guns drawn, reportedly beating anyone who refused to give up their possessions and money.

As the assailants attempted to leave the premises, Schevchanko’s coach, who was carrying a pistol, opened fire. He was caught with return fire to the stomach, and Valentina rushed to his side in a crazy scene. Ironically nicknamed ‘The Bullet,’ Schevchenko is of Russian descent and has lived in Lima, Peru since 2008. She is scheduled to face Holly Holm at UFC on FOX 20 on July 23.

The full video of the incident is disturbing, and shows clearly Schevchenko’s coach catching a bullet to the gut during his heroic attempt at foiling the robbery.
