Hannah Guy surprised everyone but herself at Bellator 259. She handed rising star Valerie Loureda her first professional loss via unanimous decision.

Originally scheduled as part of the prelims, Bellator moved the fight to the main card after the Christian Edwards vs. Ben Parrish fight was canceled. Before the matchup, betting sites had Loureda listed as a high as a -725 favorite. However, Guy, a relative unknown, proved the oddsmakers wrong.

Guy (3-1 MMA, 1-0 Bellator) and Loureda (3-1) went the distance. Guy won all three rounds on two of the judges’ scorecards (30-27, 29-28, 29-28). The only round in question was the first, in which Loureda landed a 2-3 combo and dropped Guy with a left hook. Loureda attempted to rush in and finish the fight, but Guy weathered the early storm and got back to her feet. Guy then changed levels and secured a takedown following up with a tight armbar attempt to finish the round. Between Loureda’s knockdown and Guy’s submission attempt, it’s understandable that the judges split on who won the round.

The second round was much easier to score, as Guy came out even more aggressive than in the first and immediately changed levels. Loureda initially stuffed the takedown, but Guy reversed the position and secured full mount with plenty of time left in the round. Guy secured an S-mount trapping Loureda’s arm and raining down punches and elbows to the point that the referee appeared close to stopping the fight.

In between rounds, Loureda’s corner begged her to stay on her feet as it was clear that Guy was getting the better of her in every grappling exchange. Loureda, however, continued to engage Guy on the ground.

Guy wasted no time attempting to take the fight back to the ground in the third round. She jumped for a guillotine, but Loureda escaped and seemed to follow her corner’s advice, backtracking to stand up. But all of the grappling exchanges had taken a toll as Loureda was visibly exhausted. Guy took advantage by pushing the fight back to the ground, attempting multiple submissions before the final horn.

After the fight, Guy was complementary of Loureda’s defense. “I thought I was gonna finish with the triangle honestly,” she said. “She just slipped right out of there, so that was awesome of her. Her defense was really good. I was really impressed by that actually. I didn’t know what her ground game was, but it was a lot better than I thought. No offense to her.”

Valerie Loureda has taken the MMA world by storm, but she always knew that her destiny is to make an impact.

The Bellator flyweight recently sat down for an interview with LowKickMMA ahead of her fight at Bellator 259 this weekend. Already a fan favorite, Loureda says that she’s not at all surprised at the attention she’s received so early in her career.

“I’ve always known what I’m meant to do in this world and my purpose. I kind of put myself in the worst positions in order to grow and be here right now. But, you know, I love it. I’m very grateful for it and that’s why I train as hard as I do.”

Loureda (3-0-0) has high expectations for herself as she welcomes newcomer Hannah Guy (2-1-0) to Bellator.

The striker trains at American Top Team and has focused quite a bit on improving her wrestling skills.

“You know, my wrestling has been the major focus for me and every single camp of mine. So, I’m kind of just better at it now. I understand it, and I’m a very good wrestler with a Cuban base. I think I’m just going to impress a lot of people. ‘Cause I’ve never got an opportunity to show it that you know? Everyone at the gym knows the wrestler I am.”

Loureda also shared that there were additional areas of focus this camp.

“It’s my mental. This fight camp I worked on my mind. I’ve had to deal with a lot before this fight and a lot of family changes and a lot of things we’ve been through. I learned how to release my anxiety, how to breathe, how to meditate, and just remember who I am. Remember what I was born to do and to remember what I’ve been living a whole life and not let anything or anyone get in the way of that.”

Are you excited to see Valerie Loureda attempt to maintain her undefeated record at Bellator 259 this weekend?

Bellator prospect Valerie Loureda admits she one day dreams of joining the entertainment business but insists any Hollywood offers will be knocked back for the foreseeable future as she concentrates on her fledgling MMA career.

The 22-year-old flyweight fighter scored a viral knockout at Bellator 243 earlier this year. Loureda showcased her vicious power to score the win over Tara Graff and stretch her unbeaten professional MMA record to 3-0. Immediately afterward she celebrated with some impressive dances moves that managed to get the attention of not only MMA fans but the wider public too.

Loureda has earned a good reputation as a bright prospect but it’s her antics on social media that has accelerated her to stardom. Many have cricised her sexualised posts on Instagram and TikTok but Loureda previously defended herself against such criticism.

“I don’t do anything for social media,” Loureda told reporters at the Bellator 243 virtual media day. “I do things for myself. For example, I am an extreme girly-girl outside of the cage. So the way that I market myself, it’s not for social media and it’s not for men. This is the way that I look. I’ve worked my whole life to have this body, to have this figure—I was a ballerina, I’ve been a martial artist.

“I think that’s where people mistake. It’s not for social media. I am the way that I look like, but I’m also a fighter. What does one thing have to do with the other? Just because I look different than other martial artists doesn’t make me any different. It’s my identity, this is why Valerie Loureda is different.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Loureda is already fielding offers from talent agents who are trying to coax her into the entertainment business – but right now it’s all about fighting.

“Several talent agents have reached out to me to try to get me to enter entertainment, and film different things, and honestly I love all of that and that’s my goal at the end of my career. Loureda told TMZ Sports. “But, right now, I’m really focused on fighting and winning fights comes first. But, yeah for sure, that’s a dream for me.”

Fresh off her second-round victory over Tara Graff at Bellator 243, Valerie Loureda has inked a new deal with the promotion.

The 22-year-old is fast becoming one of the company’s faces, and the undefeated flyweight’s new contract is a multi-year, multi-fight deal ensuring she will remain with Bellator for the foreseeable future.

“I am pleased to have re-signed with Bellator,” Loureda said.

“As I have always said, I am here to show the world the true martial artist that I am and chase the flyweight belt. I was born for this, I am a natural born fighter.”

There is no word about when the 4th dan taekwondo black belt will return to the cage, but after her most recent performance, it is unlikely she will be waiting too long before returning to competition.
