The featherweight king of mixed martial arts has retained his crown, and done it easily.
World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight champion Jose Aldo landed a huge uppercut and a few more punches on the ground to beat Manny Gamburyan by technical knockout in the second round of their main-event bout at WEC 51.
“In the first round I was just studying to see what I could do, and then in the second round I put all the work that we’ve done in the gym into the cage, and I was able to knock him out,” the Brazilian Aldo said in the cage afterward, through his translator. “If it’s up to me my reign will last forever.”

This is the WEC 51 live blog for Leonard Garcia vs. Mark Hominick, a featherweight bout on tonight’s Versus card from the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colo.
Garcia (14-5-1) is a slugger coming off a controversial win over Chan Sung Jung at WEC 48 in April. Hominick (18-8) is on a three-fight win streak, two of which were finishes in the WEC.

Zuffa may have robbed you of $45 last weekend, but they’re making it up to us with a stacked-to-death WEC card on free TV, on a damn weeknight. Gotta love it. Will Jose Aldo continue his Sherman’s March through the featherweight division, or will Manny Gamburyan let everyone know who he is, bro? Will Jamie Varner and Donald Cerrone settle their feud once and for all? Will Miguel Torres and Mike Brown return to old form? Can the Korean Zombie possibly top his last performance against Leonard Garcia? All these questions will be answered after the jump starting at 9 p.m., as we present our liveblog of WEC 51: Aldo vs. Gamburyan. If you love organized violence, give us a "hell yeah" in the comments section…

If you like your fighters humble, friendly, and loquacious, look elsewhere. Manny Gamburyan is not for you.
Gamburyan isn’t the guy you’re going to see eagerly signing autographs and doing fist-pose photos with fans in crowded shopping malls. He’s not the cuddly, PR-friendly fighter. He’s five-and-a-half feet of angry Armenian, and he doesn’t care that you don’t think he has a chance in his title shot against Jose Aldo at WEC 51 on Thursday night.
“I get excited when I hear that. I love being the underdog,” Gamburyan told MMA Fighting. “That’s how it was when I fought Mike Brown too, right? I wasn’t supposed to win that either, right? I’m something like a 6-1 underdog. That’s better for my fans and my friends, because now they can bet on me and make lots of money.”

Since entering the WEC, Jose Aldo has been so dominant that many have been left to wonder if there’s any featherweight in the promotion who could really cause him any trouble. A powerful puncher with underrated wrestling and a black belt in jiu-jitsu, Aldo might just be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
He’s not short on confidence, either. During UFC 119 weekend, Aldo met with the media and didn’t hesitate in saying it’s his goal to be considered the best in the world. When asked where he presently considered himself, he said No. 2, only behind UFC middleweight champ and close friend Anderson Silva.
A few months ago, Manny Gamburyan wouldn’t have seemed a likely fighter to threaten Aldo’s dominance of the division. After a strong start in the UFC, Gamburyan had fizzled out, and eventually moved a weight class down into WEC’s featherweight picture.
