While it appears likely that Miesha Tate will be standing across the cage when Ronda Rousey makes her eventual UFC return later this year, if the emerging Hollywood actress ever fights Holly Holm in a rematch as was originally intended, Holm’s coach Mike Winkeljohn is confident that the outcome will be similar to the first Rousey-Holm bout.

Winkeljohn spoke about a potential Rousey-Holm rematch during his appearance this week on Submission Radio.

“You know what, I think that Ronda knows that she’s already beaten Miesha twice. So if she’s going to come back, I think she was a little intimidated by Holly coming back and that, you know, it won’t change her fight with Ronda. I’m still very confident that if Holly fights Ronda it would be the same outcome again just because the way their styles are, and I think it will be different next time she fights Miesha. I think Miesha has improved as a fighter and I think she’s tremendous at what she does, so I love the competition and I think the fans want to see more of it, what these ladies can do.”

According to Winkeljohn, however, Rousey isn’t “anywhere close to coming back anyway.”

“I don’t think Ronda Rousey is anywhere close to coming back anyway. So hopefully Miesha is willing to pay back Holly. Holly didn’t wait for Ronda, gave Miesha a shot at it and hopefully Miesha repays the favour.”

Dana White On Holm’s Loss To Tate: “She Went Out Like A Gangster”

While Dana White may have preferred Holly Holm wait for the Ronda Rousey rematch instead of taking a fight during the interim, the UFC President couldn’t help but admire the way “The Preacher’s Daughter” went out at UFC 196.

Holm was choked out by Miesha Tate in the co-main event of UFC 196 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, but according to White, “she went out like a gangster.”

“She went out like a gangster,” said White during his appearance on the Max and Marcellus show. “She get choked, she held on, she tried to fight the choke.”

White continued, “Holly Holm technically did everything right to fight the choke. She went up against the fence so Miehsa couldn’t get her other hook in. Then Miesha held on to that choke so tight, she knew she was getting choked, so she got off the fence and tried to dump her on her head, and Miesha still didn’t let go. Those two women both, the way Miesha took that drop on the head, and the way Holly didn’t tap, gangsters.”

Holm On Tate: “I Gave You A Shot, Give Me A Shot! You Won’t Choke Me Out Again”

While the MMA world has been buzzing about a trilogy bout between Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate following Tate’s upset victory over Holly Holm at UFC 196 last Saturday night, the new UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion still isn’t sure who she will be defending the title against first.

“I don’t know if [the Rousey fight] is even confirmed yet,” Tate said during ESPN’s “The Dan Le Batard Show”. “I know everyone is so excited and everyone wants to know what’s next, but for me in this moment, I can’t get ahead of myself. As far as the next matchup, I still have to talk to my management and the UFC and nothing has been confirmed. I don’t really know what’s next. There are a lot of tough girls in this division and I don’t know when I’d be fighting next or anything.”

For her part, Holm is looking to secure a rematch against Tate as soon as humanly possible.

“I’m doing fine. I’m healthy, I’m good. I could train tomorrow,” Holm told JacksonWink Raw. “As far as my heart, I’m heartbroken. It’s a sour ending to UFC 196 but I’m ready to get back.

“I want a rematch. Miesha’s been around a long time. She’s a tough champion so I’m sure she’ll want to take the fight so let’s do it.”

Holm continued, “I haven’t watched it, but I’ve replayed [the fight] in my head 1000 times. Not just the last round but the second round, as well. It’s obviously something I need to work on. There’s a lot of things I wasn’t doing right, things that I know better, already. I gave you a shot, give me a shot. I’m not going to let you choke me out again.”

In an epic performance, former Strikeforce Women’s Champion added another gold belt to her trophy closet on Saturday night, as she choked out Holly Holm to become only the third UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion in history.

After nearly choking out Holm in the second round on multiple occasions, but “The Preacher’s Daughter” managed to hang on and survive.

From there, Holm would get back in control of the action only to find herself in deep trouble again in the fifth and final round.

Trouble she would not manage to escape this time.

Miesha “Cupcake” Tate got Holm’s back and once again secured a rear-naked choke. Holm, in an attempt to escape threw Miesha over her head and while she landed awkwardly, Tate held onto the choke and Holm eventually went completely out.

And there you have it. We have a new UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion.

What this means for “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey’s return remains to be seen. Does she prefer getting the win back from Holm, or her title back from another rival of hers?

Only time will tell!

Ronda Rousey’s PR Rep: She’ll Walk Out On Interviews If Asked About Fighting

Australia’s 7 News Perth was one of many outlets that talked to Ronda Rousey as part of a EA Sports UFC 2-centric media day in Vancouver, British Columbia recently, with the video going up over the weekend. The interview itself is a pretty basic puff piece centering on how she doesn’t blame Australia (where she was knocked out for Holly Holm) for anything, how the swimsuit design that was painted on her in Sports Illustrated was from an Australian designer, and so on. Which is kind of why the interview became newsworthy: In the above clip that 7 News Perth tweeted, you can see that they had their cameras running before the interview…and caught Rousey’s public relations representative telling them that they can’t ask about fighting, or else she will walk out.

This is the bit of interaction that’s included in the story:

PR Rep: “Guy over there just asked a question, it was DONE.
Interviewer [after an edit]: “She’s a fighter. It’s like asking me to do a basketballer and not talking about basketball.

Obviously, this is going to lead to a lot of speculation about whether or not Rousey is done with fighting. For the time being, it appears that her acting career has not been negatively affected by the change in public perception that her brutal UFC Bantamweight Championship loss to Holm caused, and if Holm remains champion after UFC 196 this Saturday, she’s clearly a tough stylistic matchup for Rousey. She may not need fighting anymore. For now, though, we don’t really know.

EA Sports UFC 2, which features both Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor on the cover, comes out on March 15th (two weeks from today, March 1st) and is available for pre-order now.

While she is no doubt focused on her own battle against Holly Holm at UFC 196 this Saturday, longtime Women’s Bantamweight contender Miesha Tate recently admitted that even she is anticipating a Holm vs. Ronda Rousey rematch.

Tate, who challenges Holm for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship in the co-main event of this Saturday’s pay-per-view, stated the following about wanting to see Holm-Rousey II during her recent appearance on ESPN SportsCenter:

“I wanna see the rematch too, at some point, I think everybody does. As a fan of the sport myself, I would love to see that. When I go in there and win the belt on Saturday, that’s probably gonna throw a wrench in the mix, so they can either put the trilogy together between Ronda and myself, with me as the champion, or they can make a non-title bout between Holly and Ronda, whatever they prefer, but I just wanna go in there on March 5 and win the belt.”

UFC 196: McGregor vs. Diaz takes place this Saturday, March 5th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Make sure to visit MMANews.com on 3/5 for the best UFC 196 live results coverage on the web!
