It didn’t take top-ten welterweight Jon Fitch (24-5-1, 1NC) long to find a new home to hang his gloves with Thursday nights announcement that the former UFC contender had been signed to a four-fight contract with the World Series of Fighting promotion.

WSOF senior exec Ali Abdel-Aziz confirmed the news with MMAFighting.com.

Fitch is expected to make his debut On June 14 at the WSOF 3 event.

Fitch was released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship last month following a decision loss to Demian Maia at UFC 156. His dismissal ended a seven-year relationship between the two which saw Fitch debut back at UFN 2 in October 2005. In his 14-3-1 run in the Octagon Fitch fought for UFC gold just once, losing to champion Georges St-Pierre by decision back in August 2008 at UFC 87.

The 35-year-old fighter has seen his career take a bit of a dip with a 1-2-1 record over his last four matches. His last win took place in October at UFC 153 earning a “Fight of the Night” unanimous decision over Brazilian opponent Erik Silva.

Following his controversial dismissal from the UFC, top-ten welterweight Jon Fitch has found his next home with World Series of Fighting. WSOF’s senior executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz revealed last night that Fitch has agreed to a four-fight contract, and will likely make his debut at the fledgling MMA promotion’s third event on June 14th. Fitch confirmed the news on twitter, saying that he’ll be officially signing contracts today.

Fitch’s opponent for the 6/14 card has not been determined yet, despite Gerald Harris‘s admirable efforts to troll his way into the booking.

In a related story, former UFC lightweight Jacob Volkmann — who was also recently fired during the UFC’s ongoing mass executions — will be making his World Series of Fighting Debut at WSOF 3 against former Strikeforce standout Lyle Beerbohm. “Fancy Pants” left Strikeforce following back-to-back losses to Pat Healy and Shinya Aoki, but has racked up five straight wins since then.

World Series of Fighting’s next event — headlined by Andrei Arlovski vs. Anthony Johnson — takes place March 23rd at the Revel Casino in Atlantic City. The full lineup for that card is after the jump.

With the release of welterweight Jon Fitch (24–5–1, 1NC) from the Ultimate Fighting Championship it appears that the American Kickboxing Academy fighter is close to signing a new deal with the upstart World Series of Fighting promotion.

WSOF president Ray Sefo confirmed that he and Fitch have been in talks, with nothing left to do except for the former UFC contender to sign on the dotted line.

Sefo confirmed the news with BloodyElbow.com reporter Stephie Daniels on Saturday.

Stephie Daniels: Did you officially sign Jon Fitch?

Ray Sefo: We have made a verbal agreement with him, and sent out the contract to him yesterday.

Stephie Daniels: So you guys gave him a number, he agreed, and now the contract is in his hands, waiting to be signed?

Ray Sefo: Correct.

Stephie Daniels: When are you planning to feature him on a card?

Ray Sefo: I think that’s entirely up to him, but he most likely would find a home on a June or July card.

Fitch was released earlier this week after news came directly from UFC president Dana White, who has since repeatedly defended the decision over the past week from fans and critics.

Fitch suffered a loss earlier this month at UFC 156 to Demian Maia after the Brazilian earned a unanimous decision at the Las Vegas event.
