The UFC has reached a deal with middleweight champ Anderson Silva that’ll secure his services for at least 10 more fights, according to Dana White.

The UFC President was live at the Herald Square Takeover event on Wednesday, where he confirmed the finished fight deal with the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

“Yeah, as far as I know, it’s done. We got a done deal with him on the new deal. It is a 10-fight deal,” White announced.

It’s rare in sports that a 38-year-old can still generate blockbuster deals, but even casual fans understand Silva isn’t like most athletes.

Instead of stumbling in the twilight of his career like normal athletes, Silva remains in prime form, easily dispatching of every contender the UFC throws his way.

With everything he’s already accomplished, it’s quite surprising Silva would elect to renew his fight contract instead of riding off into the sunset as the greatest fighter in MMA history.

Even a loss at this point of his career wouldn’t take anything away from what Silva has been able to do in the UFC. Since his debut with the promotion in 2006, he has maintained a 16-0 record and put together 10 title defenses. Nearly every notable record in the UFC is held by Silva.

In July, he’ll be looking for his eleventh title defense when he meets undefeated contender Chris Weidman at UFC 162. There wasn’t much excitement surrounding the bout early on, but it has slowly manifested into one of the most talked about fights of the year.

A win for Silva could potentially setup the long-awaited showdown against UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre, who is reportedly interested in moving up to 185 pounds. Time no longer seems like a factor.

Silva doesn’t appear to be going anywhere any time soon.
