Anderson Silva is known for his superhuman speed and skill inside the Octagon, and it looks like his unnatural abilities extend outside the combat realm.
Less than two months after snapping his leg in vicious fashion against Chris Weidman at UFC 168, Silva posted a video on Instagram that showcases his remarkable recovery.
Sure, it’s just a light stroll across the room and back, but he did so with no crutches, no support and only a mild limp.
Along with this video he posted to Instagram two weeks ago, it is clear that “The Spider” is dedicating himself to his recovery.
While his progress is impressive, his Octagon return is still in the distant future. On the Arsenio Hall Show, UFC president Dana White said Silva will return by the end of 2014, but even fellow fighters understand that he has nothing to prove and should take his time if he decides to make a comeback.
In the most recent video, it is also clear that his leg will need significant attention to return to full strength. Even once the bone is fully healed, he will need to rebuild his calf muscle, which is almost nonexistent in the update. Even for a superhero like The Spider, prolonged inactivity takes its toll on the human body.
For now, it’s just nice to see him bounce back from a devastating injury. There was no downtime or pity party; he went straight to work in rehabbing his leg, and now he can walk without help in less than 60 days.
The man is impressive, and if these updates are any indication, White’s prediction of a 2014 return might yet ring true.
