Calling guys out in mixed martial arts these days is as normal as combining peanut butter and jelly.

It serves as the most direct way to throw your name into the mix and create buzz transparently.  Fighters are able to get their point across at the press of a button by utilizing social media outlets like Twitter.

Well, another UFC standout has taken to the Twitter feeds in order to muster interest involving the welterweight title scene and two championship contenders.

The culprit is budding superstar Rory MacDonald, and this is what he had to say early Tuesday morning:

Now while the Canadian’s finger-pointing offers little room for astonishment, it’s still fairly surprising considering he hasn’t been all that impressive of late.  But that’s the name of the game and MacDonald feels he’s finally ready to fill the void that training partner and former divisional kingpin Georges St-Pierre left with his unheralded departure.

With a recent unanimous decision victory over an out-of-shape Demian Maia at UFC 170, the 24-year-old is back in the win column since dropping a split decision to Robbie Lawler back in November, who just so happens to be one of the guys he called out.

As far as a potential championship showdown with either Lawler or Johny Hendricks goes, MacDonald poses an immediate threat.  He’s the most athletic fighter in the division, has evolved exponentially on his feet and seems more focused than ever.

The kid’s promise and potential as a future titleholder and international ambassador for the UFC has always been present, but his recent inability to finish fights fueled by a change in his fighting style has ultimately slowed down the hype train.

In any case, as long as he can maintain his health, “Ares” will surely challenge for UFC gold very soon.  He just might have to get past Carlos Condit or Tyron Woodley to get there.
