The UFC is not the only one gearing up for UFC 189. Brazilian TV station Globo is jumping on board with their own early trailer (h/t Reddit)—and it’s awesome.
The UFC debuted its spectacular feature trailer at UFC 187. It marked a jump up in the UFC’s production value and showed how much effort is going into the promotion of the much-anticipated Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo featherweight title tilt.
Aldo and McGregor have already been on a world press tour that got confrontational when McGregor snatched Aldo’s title at a press conference.
Globo took its trailer the route of Street Fighter.
Aldo is featured knocking out two fictional characters, Sylvester Sinistro and Chuck Brutus, before facing McGregor. Bruce Buffer also makes an appearance in the 16-bit promo video. The video game-inspired promo makes us all want to press “start” on the controller so we can watch this fight as soon as possible.
Fans of the Street Fighter series are probably searching for their games and blowing the dust off the cartridges. When Aldo and McGregor step inside the cage, we may see a Hadoken from one or both of the elite featherweight fighters. They are that dynamic.
Between the UFC and Globo, it is clear UFC 189 is shaping up to be the year’s biggest card to date. There is tremendous buzz around this fight. McGregor has captivated fans around the globe, and he is the perfect villain to go up against the dominant Aldo.
The boisterous Irishman has backed up every word he has said to date.
What makes it even better is the way their styles match up. It should make for an exciting main event. It will cap off another fantastic UFC fight card as UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler defends his title against Rory MacDonald in the co-main event of the evening.
This event could do huge numbers if this sort of promotional push continues.
How much more fun could the lead-in to this fight get? A wild press tour, two excellent trailers and McGregor had his six-part documentary series air stateside on Fox Sports 1. And we are still more than a month away from all the action.
UFC 189 will take place in Las Vegas during International Fight Week on July 11. Bleacher Report will continue to keep you up to date on the entire card in the coming weeks and months.
