The mixed martial arts (MMA) gods have spoken, and it seems that Rashad Evans vs. Tim Kennedy is just not meant to be.
Earlier this month the pair were scheduled to clash on the massive UFC 205 pay-per-view (PPV) card in New York City, however, the New York State Athletic Commission would not grant Evans a license to compete in the event.
The UFC would reschedule the bout for UFC 206 next month in Canada and all seemed to be well, but Kennedy would break the news earlier today (Monday November 21, 2016) on The MMA Hour (courtesy of MMA Mania) that Evans again will not be allowed to compete citing brain damage as a key reason:
“They’re not (letting him fight). I’m not fighting Rashad. I found out yesterday. I think it’s brain damage. Welcome to the sport where we punch each other in the head. When you have to back-to-back athletic commissions not issuing you a license, I don’t know what that means for Rashad. It’s a slippery slope moving forward for him.”
Evans’ manager Ali Abdel-Aziz would later join Ariel Helwani on the show to shed some light on the situation, stating that there is nothing wrong with his client and he is doing just ‘fine’:
“He’s fine, guys,” Abdel-Aziz said. “Rashad is fine. There’s nothing wrong with him.”
Kennedy has yet to be given a replacement opponent, however, the Special Forces sniper is still cutting weight and is expecting to throw down come fight night in Toronto. We’ll keep you updated as the situation progresses….
