Yoel Romero still has it at 47 years of age.

The former UFC title challenger helped ring in the debut event for Dirty Boxing Championship (DBC), which is a promotion created by bareknuckle brawler and former UFC fighter Mike Perry. Saturday night’s secret card was more of a test event. It was private invitation only and didn’t stream anywhere. It was Perry’s clever way of ironing out all the kinks.

Nevertheless, DBC debuted and it debuted in awesome fashion. There were some spectacular finishes inside of the dimly-lit boxing ring, including a body shot knockout and a ridiculous superman punch finish. Even UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones was in attendance to soak up the fun.

Check out some of the highlights below:

Romero, who was last seen defeating Thiago Santos via decision back at PFL vs. Bellator this past February, was booked for main event duties. The hulking UFC veteran moved all the way up to heavyweight for his throwdown with former Power Slap competitor Duane Crespo. It seemed like a layup for “Soldier of God.”

Luckily for Romero, he didn’t disappoint. The former UFC standout who owns wins over the likes of Lyoto Machida, Chris Weidman, and Luke Rockhold, uncorked a devastating straight left hand that caught Crespo flush and knocked him to the canvas. The rules under DBC allow a fighter to implement ground-and-pound on a downed opponent, but Romero didn’t need to. Crespo was cooked.

Check out the main event highlights below and let us know what you thought of Perry’s new fight promotion!

Gable Steveson has been putting in work recently in helping Jon Jones train for his UFC return, but the former Olympic gold medalist made his own return this week by stepping on the NCAA mat for the first time in 979 days.

As you may know, Steveson is one of the best college wrestlers in recent memory and entered a hot free agent market back in 2021. The Minnesota Gopher ended up signing with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), but was eventually released earlier this year after he couldn’t cut it in the promotion’s developmental program. In turn, Steveson started training mixed martial arts (MMA) alongside UFC legend Robbie Lawler in hopes of one day transitioning to the cage (and maybe winning a UFC title).

Steveson, who turned 24 this past May, recently returned to Minnesota to continue his amateur wrestling career. The decision was a bit controversial considering Steveson hasn’t competed since he won the National Championship back in 2022. At that time, Steveson left his wrestling shoes in the middle of the mat signaling his retirement from amateur wrestling. The talented heavyweight has since changed his mind and hit the college mats on Friday.

Check out the highlights below:

While there’s nothing technically wrong with Steveson returning to his roots to keep his skills sharp some fans are bothered by his choice to ragdoll lesser competition. Keep in mind, it took Steveson less than two minutes to easily defeat North Dakota State’s Drew Blackburn-Forst with a 18-3 tech fall in his return. It wasn’t even close.

After his performance on Friday, fans took to social media to comment on Steveson’s return and take some shots at the young combat athlete. Check out some of the reaction below:

“Gable needs to be in the UFC.”

“This is tough. He is obviously fun to watch but this feels like a backwards career move. Personally not a huge fan but he’ll win the Hodge again so there is that.”

“It’s sad. He left. Why is he back in the minors? He’s an Olympic And world champion. Now he’s back swilling beer on campus taking a spot in the lineup from an actual student.”

“Roids are great.”

“I didn’t make it 30 seconds until I got bored.”

“This is so fucking unfair lol, why’d he even come back”

“He’s to stupid to do anything else. Pro wrestling didn’t want him.”

After both unsuccessfully attempted to regain the gold they never lost in the Octagon earlier this year, two former UFC light heavyweight champions will do battle at the promotion’s first pay-per-view of 2025.

Ji?í Procházka and Jamahal Hill are set to do battle at UFC 311, which takes place on Jan. 18 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, CA.

Procházka confirmed the news in an Instagram post on Nov. 23.

Ji?í Procházka vs. Jamahal Hill To Take Place At UFC 311

This will be both men’s first fight since unsuccessful challenges of current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira.

The Czech star originally won the championship with a submission of Glover Teixeira at UFC 275 in June 2022. Before the end of the year, however, he vacated the belt after suffering a shoulder injury without ever making a title defense.

Hill would then go on to claim the title with his own victory over Teixeira at UFC 283 the following January. Hill, however, also surrendered the gold after zero title defenses due to his own injury.

Pereira then went on to defeat Procházka at UFC 295 for the vacant championship and later defend the title against Hill at UFC 300. That same night this past April, Procházka finished Aleksandar Raki?.

Pereira and Procházka rematched on short notice at UFC 303, with Pereira scoring an early second-round KO.

UFC 311 is yet to have a confirmed main event, but the rematch between lightweight kingpin Islam Makhachev and top contender Arman Tsarukyan is expected to headline.

Gabriella Fernandes may have shocked the combat world with a massive upset submission over highly-touted Wang Cong at UFC Macau early Saturday morning (results HERE), but the Brazilian fighter was fighting for more than just a win.

Not too many fans expected Fernandes to last long at all against Cong, let alone turn in a huge upset performance. That’s because Cong — a former kickboxer who holds a win over Valentina Shevchenko — was picked by every expert to win Saturday’s matchup. Oddsmakers shafted Fernandez as well, giving the Brazilian a laughable 6-to-1 chance to leave Macau victorious.

In an unfathomable turn of events, Fernandes was able to land a crushing left hand in the first round that knocked Cong to the ground. Fernandes wasted no time jumping on her back and sinking in a tight rear-naked choke. She would go on to choke Cong unconscious and walk away with the biggest win of her career.

After the fight, Fernandes revealed that she was fighting for more than just victory inside of the Octagon. The Brazilian fighter mentioned that in addition to losing her father two weeks before a fight in 2023 her sister unfortunately passed away just one month ago. Fernandes was not able to see her as she was training for her fight against Cong this weekend at UFC Macau. That’s why Fernandes dedicated Saturday’s huge upset win to her recently-deceased sister.

“I’m living in the gym for 10 months, away from my family,” said Fernandes (transcription via MMA Fighting). “I lost my father last year, two weeks before my fight [against Tereza Bleda], and I lost. My sister died just over a month ago and I couldn’t be with her, and that’s why this win was for her.

“Both my hands are hurt, my foot is hurt, and I stilled accepted this fight. I came to her home, an undefeated girl, hyped up, and I was the underdog, and now [I won].”

Former UFC light heavyweight champions, Jiri Prochazka and Jamahal Hill, have been dancing around a matchup for quite some time, but now the two fighters will finally lock horns at UFC 311 on Jan. 18 live on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) in Inglewood, California.

The fight news was first leaked by UFC Macau’s post-fight broadcast team earlier Saturday. UFC show host, Dan Hellie, casually mentioned the matchup while discussing the promotion’s light heavyweight division. Check it out below:

Whether or not the pivotal 205-pound clash was supposed to be announced, the cat is officially out of the bag. A few hours after the conclusion of UFC Macau it was Prochazka’s turn to take to social media to confirm the fight news. Check it out below:

“It’s a Fight. Its a joy to be alive and create the Best ourselfs. Lets get it !!! #ufc311”

It doesn’t really matter how the announcement was made this is great news for fight fans. Hill revealed that he had signed a contract for his next fight back in October, but nobody knew for sure who he would fight. “Sweet Dreams” has been angling to fight Prochazka for a while now and even called him out following his knockout loss to Alex Pereira at UFC 300, but Prochazka wanted no part of it.

Ironically, Prochazka is also coming off a knockout defeat at the hands of “Poatan.” The two strikers met back at UFC 303 this past June. It was a rematch from their first meeting back at UFC 295 just over one year ago (which is a fight Pereira also won). It’s unknown at this time if a win for Prochazka or Hill at UFC 311 will equal another UFC title shot, but they are still two of the very best in the light heavyweight division.

Merab Dvalishvili offers Petr Yan title fight rematch at UFC 313 after Macau victory: 'Let's f*cking go'

Undisputed bantamweight champion, Merab Dvalishvili has offered former divisional champion, Petr Yan another shot at both him and the divisional crown following the Russian’s win over former flyweight best, Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC Fight Night Macau this morning — suggesting a March matchup.

Dvalishvili, the current undisputed bantamweight gold holder, most recently headlined UFC 305 at the Las Vegas Sphere, turned in a dominant unanimous decision win over defending champion and common-foe, Sean O’Malley in the pair’s championship grudge fight.

And returning this morning to defend his status within the bantamweight top-three, Dudinka striker, Yan landed a comfortable unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45) win over former champion, Figueiredo – handing the Brazilian his first loss at 135lbs since his move, in the promotion’s return to China.

Staking his claim for a rematch with Merab Dvalishvili opposed to suggestions of re-runs with both O’Malley and perennial contender, Cory Sandhagen, former gold holder, Yan seems to receive a welcome to the belt again by the defending gold holder — as early as UFC 313 in March next year.

““Great fight Petr (Yan),” Merab Dvalishvili said in a video posted on his official social media this evening. “I like your callout, and I like your respect. Let’s go again, after 2 years. March 8th, T Mobile. Let’s f*cking go.”

First meeting in the main event of UFC Fight Night Las Vegas back in March of last year, Dvalishvili earned himself a title-eliminator with former duel-weight best, Henry Cejudo courtesy of a dominant win over Yan in their main event, out-pointing the Russian in a 50-45 swing on all three judge’s scorecards.

With his win this morning in Macau against former flyweight best, Figueiredo, Yan moves to 2-0 in his two most recent trips to the Octagon, having rebounded to winning ways with a decision success over the surging, Song Yadong earlier this annum at UFC 299 in March.
