After an MMA career that ended in disappointment, Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson contemplated a career in professional wrestling before finally deciding to make his professional boxing debut.
After appearing on The Ultimate Fighter, Ferguson competed in two official UFC bouts. After losing to Matt Mitrione in his second fight, Ferguson was released from the organization.
Last night, Ferguson laced up his boxing gloves for the first time as he took on the 39-year-old James Wade at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla. Wade, who reportedly had a record of 0-1 heading into the fight, proved no match for the Internet sensation.
In less than 20 seconds, Ferguson landed a brutal uppercut that dropped Wade and put a quick end to the fight. Ferguson’s next fight is already scheduled for Oct. 15, 2011.
Without having to worry about defending takedowns, Ferguson could find much more success in boxing than he did in MMA. Still, a win over a fighter like Wade doesn’t go very far toward proving Ferguson’s legitimacy.
