After earning his ninth consecutive title defense, and 15th consecutive victory at UFC 134, speculation was brought up once again regarding an anticipated superfight between Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre.

It’s a fight that fans and media have dreamed about for years, and apparently UFC President Dana White seems keen on the idea as well. But White said he’ll have to sit down with the UFC Middleweight champion first before any plans arise.

“What happens next is we’ll talk to him, see what he’s thinking about what he wants to do,” White told MMAWeekly.com.

Both Silva and St-Pierre are two of the company’s most dominant champions and a potential bout between them is hard to ignore, considering the success each of them have achieved in their respective divisions. And given both of their recent track records, it doesn’t seem there are many challenges left for either competitor.

It is likely Silva will defend his title once more against the winner of Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann, who will compete at UFC 136. Silva has already met Sonnen on one occasion that nearly saw the Brazilian lose the middleweight crown, so a rematch would be a huge draw, while Brian Stann would be a fresh challenger. Anything after that would seem boring and repetitive for Silva.

As for St-Pierre, he has literally dominated every opponent he has faced en route to successfully defending his title. It would appear he has one more challenge ahead of him in Nick Diaz at UFC 137. Should he get past Diaz, St-Pierre will have essentially cleaned out the welterweight division, and thus making a long awaited superfight between him and Silva inevitable.

“I think there’s a couple of other fights out there for him at 185 lbs,” White said of the potential bout. “And it’s clear, number one, that fans want to see this fight, and Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre are both getting into a position here pretty soon, they both only want really big fights, but they’re getting into a position here where that fight’s going to make sense.”
