Would the legendary light heavyweight Dan Henderson fight Team Quest teammate No. 1 middleweight contender Chael Sonnen in the near future?
If the UFC middleweight title was on the line then “Hendo” would be up for it, according to UFC President Dana White.
“He’ll fight whoever has that belt. Dan doesn’t seem too picky, I think he would fight Chael Sonnen [if he won the belt from Silva],” White told ESPN.
“He wants a title fight. He either wants Anderson Silva or whoever has the belt at 185 or the winner of Evans and Jones,” White said. “Last time I talked to Henderson, he wanted to wait to fight one of these guys for the title.”
Since coming off a victory in what many fans and analysts considered 2011’s Fight of the Year against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 139, the former PRIDE and Strikeforce champion has been patiently waiting for a title shot.
After turning down a fight with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in January, White said Henderson had no interest in a fight with former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida either.
While Hendo argued that he was never actually offered a fight with “The Dragon,” the heavy-handed wrestler has made it clear that he has no intention of coming off the sidelines until 12 pounds of gold is on the line.
Prior to UFC 144, Henderson expressed interest in a rematch with Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. The pair first met at UFC 75 where Rampage won a close decision to unify the Pride middleweight and UFC light heavyweight titles.
However, after Rampage lost a clear-cut decision to Ryan Bader on that card, Hendo said Jackson “showed up just to get paid” and has since backtracked on the idea.
