UFC 161 was destined to be a dud once the interim bantamweight title bout between current champ Renan Barao and top contender Eddie Wineland fell apart.

To make things even worse, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira had to pull out of his fight with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua due to a nagging back injury. Chael Sonnen stepped up to replace Nogueira, but visa issues nixed that possibility. Now Sonnen will face “Shogun” in the main event of the inaugural UFC on Fox Sports 1 card.

There were a number of other fighter changes, leaving UFC 161 as little more than a shell of its former self. The card was further plagued with questionable decisions, several lackluster bouts and only two finishes.

However, there were a few bright spots—even on a card as dreadful as UFC 161. These are the fighters who had the most impressive performances in Winnipeg.

It seems like everyone wants an opportunity to punch Michael Bisping in the face.

“The Count” has been a permanent fixture in the UFC after he knocked out Josh Haynes to win the third season of The Ultimate Fighter way back in 2006.

This can be equally attributed to both his gifts inside the cage and polarizing demeanor.

When Bisping officially made the drop down to middleweight in 2008, he positioned himself as one of the biggest personalities in the division.

Since then, “The Count” has fought the cream of the crop at 185, and in the process, he has become one of the most recognizable faces in the UFC.

While Bisping recovers from eye surgery, a bevy of marquee fighters have started lining up to get the next shot at him. Cung Le, Costa Philippou, Luke Rockhold and Rich Franklin are just a few that have been begging for the opportunity to take on the loud-mouthed Brit.

Obviously, there is no shortage of talent willing to square off with Bisping, and these are the biggest reasons why.

There is seemingly no rhyme or reason to the UFC’s policy when it comes to releasing fighters. The randomness of the process routinely befuddles even the most knowledgeable MMA fans.

Some fighters are given the proverbial axe at the drop of a hat, while others are given innumerable opportunities regardless of their performance.

A lot of this has to do with popularity and fanbase, but not in all instances.

There are plenty of fighters who were cut from the UFC for various reasons, legitimate or otherwise. These five in particular really got the short end of the stick and deserve another chance to taste victory inside the Octagon.

Former Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem will take on Travis Browne at the inaugural UFC on FOX Sports 1 event set for August 17.

Both Overeem and Browne currently find themselves in the upper echelon of the heavyweight division, according to the UFC’s official fighter rankings.

Overeem has had a pretty rough 2013. He is coming off a devastating knockout loss to Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and suffered an injury that forced him out of a bout with Junior dos Santos at UFC 160.

Browne’s last loss, the first of his career, also came at the hands of “Bigfoot.” He tore his left hamstring during the fight. After rehabbing, Browne returned to the Octagon at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale, where he knocked out Gabriel Gonzaga in the first round.

It’s hard to believe, but in the relatively barren landscape that is the heavyweight division, a victory for either fighter will thrust their name into the title picture.

Here is a head-to-toe breakdown of this clash between two of the very best 265s.
