The UFC has re-booked the fight between Volkan Oezdemir and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

It’s been well documented that the former title contender was slated to fight former UFC light heavyweight champion in the co-main event of the upcoming UFC Chile event.

However, that fight got scrapped once it was revealed that Oezdemir’s ongoing legal situation in Florida will not allow him to leave the country and this fight will have to be scheduled for a later date.

Oezdemir had to surrender his passport as part of a third-degree felony battery charge due to an alleged incident in Florida.

It’s well known by now that Oezdemir was arrested as a result of a bar fight in August where Oezdemir allegedly hit an individual. Oezdemir was released on $10,000 bond. He was in a fight with a man named Kevin Cohen, who sustained swelling and received cuts on his head from the fight.

The alleged incident went down at Capone in Fort Lauderdale and it was described by Oezdemir’s attorney, Bruce A. Zimet that it was a bar room altercation. He made it clear that his client was not the aggressor and was totally justified in his actions.

Cohen told police that he went outside after hearing a friend had been knocked unconscious following a verbal altercation with another man. Cohen told cops that he looked up and was hit in the face.

Cohen would go on to state that he lost consciousness for about 14 minutes and was taken to the hospital. This is where he was treated for concussion symptoms and given multiple staples for lacerations. People outside the bar told Cohen that it was Oezdemir that hit him.

Now, the promotion has officially announced that this fight would go down at the UFC Hamburg event (also known as UFC Fight Night 134).

UFC Hamburg is set to take place on July 22, 2018, at Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany.

The main card will air on FOX Sports 1 while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez is angling for a fight against Nate Diaz

Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez is currently looking for his next opponent. Recently, he extended a challenge to former title challenger Nate Diaz, who also remains uncertain about his next career move.

But there apparently is a deep-rooted history between both fighters, which began at UFC 188 almost three years ago in Mexico City.

“We almost fought each other in Mexico, I was fighting his friend Gilbert Melendez,” Alvarez told ESNews (transcript via BJPenn.com). “I beat Gilbert and Nate was angry about it. And so me and Nate almost got into it in Mexico. For sure I’d like to get that match out.”

Alvarez explained that while he has no beef with elder Diaz brother Nick, the issue with Nate remains the same, just because of the slated matchup against Melendez.

“With Nate in Mexico, I went up to him and said ‘Hey why do you keep looking at me like this. I’ve been cool with you and your brother,’” Alvarez recalled. “So he put his head down and wouldn’t look at me but said ‘You’re fighting my friend so f–k you!’. So I kind of started laughing and said ‘Man I’m like 30 something, I’ve got kids and sh-t, this fight stuff is just business for me. So I laughed it off and then the UFC decided to come in and break us up.”

Alvarez is now using this angle to set-up a fight with Diaz.

“You know Nate always talks about keeping it real,” Alvarez said. “Well keeping it real I beat his friend up right in front of him while he sat cage side and he still didn’t do sh-t about it. So if he ever wants to come back, I’m right here! (Nate) can come get this!”

From his end, Diaz already turned down a previous offer to fight Alvarez, simply because Eddie already “got melted by the guy he beat up.”

“He just got plumbed by Conor and I just beat Conor’s ass,” Diaz told Ariel Helwani in a special MMA Hour episode in May 2017. “I just laughed at them, like ‘Get the f–k out of here, call me with some real sh-t.’”
