Anytime a big star loses their first fight, you got a mixed-bag of reactions from a wide variety of people. When Ronda Rousey lost, most of it was negative. In the case of Conor McGregor, a lot of it has been negative as well.

So, how does former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones feel about McGregor’s first Octagon loss?

“Bones” spoke about McGregor’s loss recently, explaining why he feels it was a good thing for McGregor to be humbled in defeat.

Jones stated the following about McGregor’s loss to Nate Diaz at UFC 196:

“A part of me thinks it’s a good thing he was humbled. Right before he lost, he was getting into conversations about fighting anybody, anywhere, saying things like I could beat anybody, any weight class they’re in.

I was getting fans writing me messages asking ‘How would you do against McGregor?’ I was like ‘C’mon guys, you can’t be serious. I’m a 220-pound, 9-time world champion. You really think he’d even be a match?’ Some people really believed that he can beat anyone at any weight class.

So I’m glad that it happened. It allowed the fans to have that reality check, that alright, maybe that guy isn’t unbeatable — stuff that us professional fighters knew the whole time.”

Former Champ Thinks Daniel Cormier Can ‘Definitely’ Defeat Jon Jones

Rashad Evans may have been disconnected from the UFC light heavyweight title picture for almost two years due to series of frustrating knee injuries, but the former champion and FOX Sports analyst still kept his eyes open on the 205-pound landscape.

‘Suga’ returned to meet formerly surging Ryan Bader at last October’s UFC 192, but the effects of ring rust seemed to hold him down and he dropped a clear-cut decision to ‘Darth.’

Now set to face Glover Teixeira at UFC on FOX 19 after his original opponent ‘Shogun’ Rua was forced out, Evans recently gave his take on the awaited UFC 197 title rematch between 205-pound champion Daniel Cormier and his onetime student and friend, former champion Jon Jones, during an appearance on this week’s The MMA Hour.

Evans noted that while he does believe Cormier can beat Jones where he failed at 2012’s UFC 145, he must do just that in order to bypass retirement:

“I think that DC definitely can [win]. He definitely can. You know, DC, he seems different this time around. He seems different this time mentally speaking. Honestly speaking, this is a fight that DC…he has to win. Like, if DC doesn’t win this fight, there really — he would have to retire if he doesn’t win this fight.”

Evans elaborated on that all-or-nothing view, noting that Cormier just would not have too many options with two losses to the pound-for-pound king. ‘Suga’ believes that would break Cormier’s desire to be the best, because Jones would have effectively solved any and all discussion of just whom the best light heavyweight is:

“It’s like, what does he do then?” Evans said. “Does he try to face Jon again for the third time? Once you take away a man’s desire to be the best — or he knows that he can’t be the best — then in a sense, you just kill that man off. So if he loses this fight, Jon would have killed him off. There’s no reason. The competitive grind would be gone.”

Host Ariel Helwani noted that Cormier could then go back up to heavyweight, a division in which he earned a 13-0 record in on his way to the Strikeforce World Heavyweight Grand Prix belt. But with his friend and teammate Cain Velasquez still looking to fight for the UFC belt there, things could get a little complicated, ‘Suga’ thinks ‘DC’ would no longer want to put his body through the punishment required to be the best if he loses to Jones twice:

“Maybe, maybe,” he said. “Maybe so. I just don’t think that DC, being so successful with the FOX gig and stuff like that, I don’t think the desire to put his body through it will outweigh the life that he could have if he didn’t do it.”

We’ll have to wait and see if Cormier can indeed prove Evans right by defeating the man whom many believe to be the best fighter in MMA. If he can’t, however, will he be forced to retire as ‘Suga’ suggested?

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight Jason Miller was arrested on Tuesday on allegations that he vandalized a tattoo parlor earlier this year in Orange County, California.

From TMZ:

Ex-UFC star Mayhem Miller was arrested again — this time for vandalizing a tattoo shop — and officials have set his bail at a whopping $1 MILLION … TMZ Sports has learned.

Miller — who’s previously been arrested for DUI, fighting cops and domestic violence — was taken into custody Tuesday stemming from an incident back in January when officers say the 35-year-old vandalized the ink shop in Orange County, CA with graffiti.

According to court docs, obtained by TMZ Sports, Miller’s bail was set at $1,000,000!!!!! We’re told the number is so high because Miller was out on bail at the time for a previous felony and has a deep, DEEP criminal record.

More on this developing story in just a bit.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones recently appeared on the “Tiki and Tierney” podcast to hype his upcoming title fight with current champion Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 197.

When asked about the possibility of losing to Cormier, Jones shot the question down by saying that there’s no way he loses to him.

“I do not think that possibility. I understand that there is a possibility of this happening, but when I think of the defeat, the only thing that comes into my head, soon after, is that I have to get back to work. I have to improve on something. I train four, five times a day. I think to myself, “No way, Jon You will not lose this fight.”. There’s no way I lose. The his age will not allow it, and I’m stronger and faster.”

Jones also explained that he doesn’t hate Cormier despite the massive trash talk that has gone on between the two fighters.

“I definitely do not hate this guy. We did not like because we are the elite of our sport. We are at the highest level when it comes to a UFC fighter. He only lost to me, and I have not lost anyone. I know he’s a guy capable and have a chance to beat me. He knows that I can beat him because I’ve done it. It is a competition that only we can draw from each other – recognized the former champion.”

You can listen to the interview here.

UFC 197 takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday, April 23rd, 2016. The main card will air on pay-per-view while the prelims will air on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Conor McGregor has recently been criticized for tapping out at UFC 196 in his fight against Nate Diaz. Diaz recently spoke with MMA Junkie about why McGregor shouldn’t be getting flak for tapping.

“If you’ve got to tap out, you’ve got to tap out,” Diaz told MMAjunkie. “I think Holly, she thought she was maybe going to get out. She had already gotten out of one (choke earlier in the fight) and she thought, ‘I’m not quitting.’ McGregor, he was (expletive) done. All the way done. It’s all right. He had to tap out because there was no getting out of that. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with tapping out.”

“It’s a fight against the best fighters in the world; you’ve got to tap to that (expletive),” Diaz said. “You ain’t getting out of it. You can tap out, or you can go to sleep. It’s (expletive) the same (expletive). You tap out if you’re caught. The thing is, that’s what I think, is don’t get caught.”

Diaz is rumored to be the next challenger for UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos later this year.

Colin Cowherd has a message for Ronda Rousey: It’s okay to be a woman AND a fighter

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is slowly but surely making her way back into the limelight after last November’s knockout loss to Holly Holm, the first defeat of her professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

Along the way, “Rowdy” has become affable, parading around the set of Saturday Night Live (watch it) and posting tongue-in-cheek videos about her ability to chew solid foods, a far cry from her dour disposition in the days before — and after — UFC 193.

Much to the delight of FOX Sports mouthpiece Colin Cowherd:

“I find her very cute and likable and vulnerable and fun there. If you’re a dominant MMA fighter — Holly Holm came on the set… you can still be fun, and vibrant, and a woman. I found Ronda Rousey, right before her fight with Holly Holm, kind of a bully. I didn’t find her likable. It’s okay to be a woman and a fighter. Holly Holm is an attractive woman and a fighter. Sometimes with these women who fight it’s like, ‘Hey, all I am is a fighter!’ It’s okay to be vulnerable, fun, cute, awesome, dominant athlete, and a fighter and a woman. It’s the same for guys.”

Take note, Mr. Grumpy Pants.

Rousey is expected to return to combat sports later this year, but now that Holm coughed up her division strap to Miesha Tate earlier this month at UFC 196, “Rowdy” will skip her do-over with “The Preacher’s Daughter” (for now) to complete her trilogy with “Cupcake.”

We’ll see how long the non-bully stance holds up once Tate turns up the heat.
