Negumereanu, UFC 277

Nicolae Negumereanu put on a brutal display of violence in the early prelims of UFC 277. The Romanian immediately put his name in the hat of a potential post-fight bonus with a clinically savage TKO victory.

Negumereanu faced off against Ihor Potieria in the second fight of the night. In the first round, ‘Nick’ utilized a heavy wrestling gameplan, that appeared to sap the cardio of Potieria. Negumereanu could be seen mocking Potieria at the start of round two, holding his mouth comically open as if gasping for air.

Round two played out almost entirely in the stand-up realms. Potieria showed moments of skill, but his cardio had clearly deserted him. Negumereanu began landing a series of brutal knee strikes from the clinch that backed the Ukrainian up against the cage. From here, Negumereanu began letting both hands and knees fly, knocking Potieria’s mouthpiece flying. He continued to land after this, eventually forcing the referee to step in.

We’ve purchased the ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) and with it our team will deliver the best possible ‘radio style’ play-by-play broadcast imaginable throughout UFC 277’s main card, starting at 9:45 p.m. ET in the video player below!

Can you ever get back what you lost … even if you win it? That’s the question for Amanda Nunes heading UFC 277’s pay-per-view (PPV) main event tonight (Sat., July 30, 2022) inside American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

The former “double champ” looks to reclaim the women’s Bantamweight belt from the woman who beat her, Julianna Pena, in a shocking upset back in Dec. 2021.

For Pena, this is a battle to prove her second round submission win wasn’t a “fluke” because — despite her walking in as the champion — fans and oddsmakers have Pena as the underdog at +225 (via DraftKings).

While that isn’t fair to Pena — who waited four months initially to fight Nunes because of COVID-19 — that’s what happens when you beat a star and you aren’t one.

Yet again, not a knock on Pena, she is everything you want in a world champion, personality, looks, talent, grit, but is she a world beater? Can she beat Nunes again?

It depends on which Amanda Nunes walks into the cage.

Is it the new mother still feeling the effects of a major life change, cash in the bank and the lingering effects of a potentially deadly illness?

Or …

Is this the world beating badass who starched the last idol of their division in Ronda Rousey, and pinata’d anyone and everyone on the road to becoming “champ-champ.”

I don’t think anyone can answer that question until the cage door closes and round one of five for UFC’a Bantamweight championship commences.

All I know is that I’m excited to call the fights and watch the action alongside you as we celebrate my third year with Combat Culture! So pour a drink, tell a friend, drop some of that money that don’t chingle chingle, it folds and enjoy chaos with us as we commune around the calamity that is cage fighting, one more time.

Deiveson Figueiredo Doesn’t Care Who Wins at UFC 277: “They Want To Take What’s Mine”

Deiveson Figueiredo insists that he is the true king of the 135-pound division. The Brazilian native has his eyes set on tonight’s winner in the interim title fight between Brandon Moreno and Kai Kara France.

Figueiredo is the current UFC flyweight champion, who is sidelined with a hand injury. He will be in attendance at UFC 277, where a potential challenger will emerge.

“It was very important to be here, not only to watch the fight but also to study their game,” Figueiredo told MMA Junkie. “Listen, that belt is mine and I know that the winner of this fight is surely going to face me for that belt. They want to take what’s mine.”

Deiveson Figueiredo Is Willing To Fight Any Challenger

When asked about his preferred opponent, Figueiredo shot down a prediction for tonight’s interim title fight.

“Whoever comes to me, they’re going to want my belt so I’m not worried about picking favorites for this fight,” Figueiredo said. “I’m going to focus on what’s mine, I’m going to focus on training… and getting ready for that bloody battle that I like to put on for people to watch.”

The 34-year-old last competed inside the octagon against Moreno in their trilogy fight in January. Figueiredo secured the win and became a two-time flyweight champion. He suffered his hand injury in the fight which forced him to decline a fourth fight against Moreno.

Figueiredo anticipates a return later this year. The flyweight champion is not interested in picking his next opponent right now but is fascinated with having his return fight in his home country.

“I have not experienced fighting in my country for quite some time, like four or five years and for me to have the opportunity to take the UFC to São Paulo…would be an honor and a privilege,” Figueiredo said. “They’ll be really proud to see someone who defends the belt, the country the way I do more than anyone else so I just think it would be great to have that fight down there. The Brazilian fans are not just fans, they’re fanatics.”

Get up to date on the main event of UFC 277 between Julianna Peña and Amanda Nunes.

The main event of UFC 277 will feature a bantamweight fight between Julianna Peña (11-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) and Amanda Nunes (21-5 MMA, 14-2 UFC). UFC 277: Peña vs. Nunes airs live from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas this Saturday, July 30th. The main card will start with a fight time of 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT, with the ABC/ESPN/ESPN+ prelims beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT and the early prelims kicking off at 6:00 p.m. ET/3:00 p.m. PT.

How do these two stack up?

Peña: 32 years old | 5’6” | 69” reach

Nunes: 34 years old | 5’8” | 69” reach

What have these two done recently?

Peña: W – Amanda Nunes (SUB) | W – Sara McMann (SUB) | L – Germaine de Randamie (SUB)

Nunes: L – Julianna Peña (SUB) | W – Megan Anderson (SUB) | W – Felicia Spencer (DEC)

How did these two get here?

UFC 269 was where everything changed.

The former two-division champion Amanda Nunes was set for her next defense against Julianna Peña, who challenged the ‘Lioness’ to a fight for years. The ‘Venezuelan Vixen’ thought Nunes spent her championship run avoiding her, a view that many laughed off, considering the Brazilian has fought — and defeated — every challenger the promotion set in front of her since acquiring gold. However, when these women shared the Octagon this past December, the only one laughing was Peña.

Peña stunned everyone by submitting Nunes with a rear-naked choke in the second round. The win was so inconceivable to those who expected Nunes to not only retain her championship, but also do it in dominant fashion. When that scenario did not happen, the world was left scratching its head and trying to figure out what went wrong for Nunes. Was it complacency? Was it the mix of long COVID-19 and knee injuries? Or was it Peña just having Nunes’ number? Now months removed from the first fight and a coaching stint on The Ultimate Fighter, those questions should be answered in the rematch between Peña and Nunes at UFC 277 on Saturday.

Why should you care?

There is so much to learn in this rematch. Can Peña silence those critics who believe the first win was a “fluke”? Can Nunes shake off the loss, return to form and reclaim her bantamweight championship? Is this just a case of the passing of the torch? Tune in to find out!
