Transgender Fighter

Transgender fighter Alana McLaughlin was victorious in her MMA debut against Celine Provost on Friday night, although it did not come without extensive perseverance.

McLaughlin, 38, is the first openly transgender Mixed Martial Arts fighter since Fallon Fox made her bow in the octagon in 2014. McLaughlin was able to secure a second-round victory by choking out Provost, although she survived being badly rocked in the first round. She was then able to mount a comeback to force a submission on her opponent.

This fight was initially scheduled for August 6 but was unfortunately postponed following Provost testing positive for Coronavirus in July. For her part, McLaughlin passed all of her medical requirements before making her debut, including various hormone assessments.

McLaughlin came out as transgender in 2003, aged 20, but she was denied gender reassignment surgery by her mother and subsequently joined the army, serving in Afghanistan. She was later diagnosed with PTSD, before undergoing gender reassignment surgery in 2016.

She recently began MMA training and cites Fallon Fox, who won five of her six professional fights between 2012 and 2014, as her inspiration.

“I want to pick up the mantle that Fallon put down. Right now, I’m following in Fallon’s footsteps. I’m just another step along the way and it’s my great hope that there are more to follow behind me.”

If we want to see more trans athletes, if we want to see more opportunities for trans kids, we’re going to have to work our way into those spaces and make it happen.”

Mike Tyson will be in attendance for Holyfield-Belfort.

Heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson will be in attendance for Saturday’s Holyfield vs. Belfort fight card, per boxing and MMA correspondent Mike Coppinger.

Triller hopes to set up a trilogy between Tyson and Holyfield if ‘The Real Deal’ beats ‘The Phenom’ later tonight.

“Mike Tyson expected to be in the building tomorrow night for Evander Holyfield-Vitor Belfort. Triller hopes it’s a prelude to a Tyson-Holyfield event.”

Tyson and Holyfield were in talks for a rematch after ‘Iron Mike’s’ 2020 boxing exhibition with Roy Jones Jr., but the bout never came to fruition.

Tyson infamously bit off a piece of Holyfield’s ear in their ‘97 rematch at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. Tyson, who has matured with age (he’s now 55), was disqualified. He lost their previous title bout in 1996 via 11th-round TKO.

Triller: Holyfield vs. Belfort, which features a co-main event between UFC legend Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz, takes place tonight, Sept. 11 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

Lauro Sanko Defends Khabib Amid Ring Girl Controversy

Laura Sanko has leaped to the defence of Khabib Nurmagomedov who is currently in the firing line after making some controversial comments about the presence of ring girls in MMA.

During a recent press conference in Moscow, Russia, the former UFC lightweight champion ranted about ring girls.

“Look, I don’t want to offend anyone, ring girls are the most useless people in martial arts,” Nurmagomedov said. “What is their purpose? I have a question. You can show that it is the second round on the screen.”

Nurmagomedov has received some flack for his comments.

Long-time UFC ring girl, Arianny Celeste, was particularly irked by what the retired fighter had to say.

ESPN analyst and reporter, Sanko, put Nurmagomedov’s controversial comments down to “cultural difference”.

“I think it’s a cultural difference,” Sanko told James Lynch. “I think we have to accept that that is a very valid opinion for him to have and it’s his personal opinion and he was talking about why he’s not gonna have them at his promotion…that’s within his right to do so… If he had specifically attacked our ring card girls or any ring card girl by name, I definitely would jump to their defense. I think it’s more the idea for him, it’s not just something culturally that he finds valid and I respect that about him. I think he’s perfectly fine and within his rights to talk about that.”

Sanko doesn’t buy into the narrative that Nurmagomedov lacks respect for women.

“I don’t appreciate the line of thinking that he does not respect women because when you haven’t grown up in a Muslim culture, the respect for women looks different, I think, than maybe our American eyes expect it to,” Sanko said. “It takes a different form. I know he has a lot of respect for the women that he trains with. I know he has a lot of respect for other women champions like Valentina [Shevchenko]…the culture he grew up in, he respects women so much, he wants them to be presented in a certain way.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)

Do you agree with Laura Sanko? Is Khabib Nurmagomedov being misunderstood due to cultural differences?

The UFC’s newest star, Paddy Pimblett, has joined the long list of MMA fighters ready and willing to square off against Jake Paul.

Pimblett stole the show at UFC Vegas 36 last weekend when he survived an early scare to deliver on his first-round KO promise against Luigi Vendramini.

One week before that Paul stretched his perfect boxing record to 4-0. The YouTube star came through the toughest test of his career, beating Tyron Woodley over eight rounds.

Paul is now on the lookout for his next opponent. In an interview with Sport Bible, ‘The Baddy’ revealed he’s more than willing to fight the internet celebrity if the money is right.

“Obviously, I’m an MMA fighter first and foremost. That goes without saying. But If I’m getting offered big money to fight him, I’ll take his head clean off his shoulders,” Pimblett said. “Said it months ago, lad. Said it about a year ago, I think. He is a lot bigger than me as well, to be honest. But as you can see (pulls his cheeks), I can eat, lad. I’m about 185 or around that. I’ll fight him at 185 and I’ll fu****g punch his face right in for him.”

Pimblett isn’t really a fan of the direction boxing is currently heading but the Liverpudlian understands that there is money to be made from these types of fights.

“It’s a farce. It’s not a little bit of farce, it’s a farce,” Pimblett said. “But it generates money, lad, and that’s all that matters. As long as it’s putting bums on the seats and eyes on pay-per-views, they are gonna continue to do it.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)

Triller Fight Club: Evander Holyfield vs. Vitor Belfort live results, round by round updates

Evander Holyfield v Vitor Belfort - Weigh-in
Evander Holyfield (L) and Vitor Belfort (R) face-off during the weigh-in ahead of their fight on September 11 at The Harbor Beach Marriott on September 10, 2021 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. | Photo by Eric Espada/Getty Images

Join Bloody Elbow for live round by round results and coverage of today’s (Sept. 11) Triller Fight Club pay-per-view in Hollywood, FL.

In the main event, legendary former cruiserweight and heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield steps in on short notice to take on former UFC champion Vitor Belfort. Despite much reporting that the 58-year-old was going to be in a sanctioned pro bout against ‘The Phenom,’ apparently it will be an eight-round exhibition, with each round lasting two minutes.

The co-main event is the great ex-UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva and former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz in a 195-pound catchweight… or at least that was the plan until Ortiz missed weight. Silva has dealt with this before, as it happened in his last boxing match vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Instead it’ll be a 200 lbs catchweight and an eight-round pro bout.

Rounding out the PPV is ex-cruiserweight and ex-heavyweight boxing champ David Haye coming out of retirement to take on entrepreneur Joe Fournier. This is also a professional bout after initially being an exhibition. The only non-circus fight on the main card is a junior lightweight battle between Andy Vences and Jono Carroll, which should be fun.

All of the action starts at 6 PM ET/3 PM PT with the one-hour freeview of the prelims, then the Triller PPV begins at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT. Yes, there will be musical performances so this will be a lengthy show. Yes, we have to cover this.
