Vitor Belfort Oscar De La Hoya

While former UFC star Vitor Belfort has a lot of respect for his upcoming boxing opponent, Oscar De La Hoya, he’s warning the public that he may accidentally inflict fatal damage on the boxing legend when they go to war in the ring next month in Los Angeles.

Belfort enters the bout in his first boxing match since making the full commitment to transition from MMA to boxing during this latter stage of his career. He competed in a boxing match in the mid-2000s against Josemario Neves, earning the knockout win.

After a long tenure in MMA that included runs in the UFC, PRIDE, and an attempted run in ONE Championship that never materialized, Belfort is full-steam ahead when it comes to his boxing career as he gets ready for a professional boxing fight against one of the best ever in De La Hoya.

Belfort is training hard for his opportunity to beat De La Hoya, and he’s in some ways worried about the damage he may inflict on the boxing Hall of Famer.

“Oscar De La Hoya is a true superstar in the boxing world and one of the greatest and most popular fighters of our time,” Belfort said in a recent interview with World Boxing News. “While we both have a great deal of respect for each other’s accomplishments, on September 11, I will make my MMA fans proud. I’ll show that MMA and ex-UFC fighters can take down even the best boxer in the world.”

“I hope I don’t end up killing him. But everything is on the table. This is a no holds barred, all-out gladiator fight to the bitter end.”

Belfort is a slight-betting favorite heading into his boxing match with De La Hoya, who hasn’t competed in the ring since he lost to Manny Pacquiao back in 2006. These latest comments will surely add fuel to the fire ahead of the Sept. 11 fight.

UFC President Dana White has plans to broadcast UFC 267 on network television.

UFC 267 could break away from the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) typical pay-per-view (PPV) model in favor of a network television slot on ABC, according to UFC President Dana White.

White revealed that UFC 267 — which takes place at UFC Fight Island on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. — will take place in the morning and afternoon in North America, per TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter. Additionally, the UFC boss hopes to have the event air on ABC. The promotion previously held their inaugural UFC on ABC card from Fight Island on Jan. 16 when Max Holloway fought Calvin Kattar (watch highlights). This would mark the first time that UFC would air a PPV card on the network.

One of the rare occasions the UFC broadcasted a traditional numbered event on television was UFC 138 in Nov. 2011. It was headlined by Chris Leben vs. Mark Munoz and aired via tape delay on Spike TV.

UFC 267 is headlined by a UFC Light Heavyweight title fight pitting champion Jan Blachowicz vs. Glover Teixeira. A UFC Bantamweight title rematch is expected to serve as the co-main event as Aljamain Sterling defends his belt against former champion Petr Yan. Other notable fights planned for the card include Islam Makhachev vs. Rafael dos Anjos, and Li Jingliang vs. Khamzat Chimaev.

Max Holloway vs. Yair Rodriguez Targeted for Nov. 13 UFC Fight Night

Max Holloway Yair Rodriguez

After the fight was postponed earlier this summer, a big featherweight showdown between former champion Max Holloway and stalemate contender Yair Rodriguez is reported in the works for a UFC Fight Night main event on Nov. 13 at a location to be determined. UFC president Dana White broke the news to TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter.

Holloway, fresh off his dominant win over Calvin Kattar in January, is seeking another run at UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski sooner rather than later, after two controversial losses to him in the octagon. A win over Rodriguez would more than likely put him over the top for the next little shot after Volkanovski and Brian Ortega fight later this Fall.

Holloway and Rodriguez were originally supposed to fight in a UFC Fight Night main event last month before Holloway pulled out of the fight due to injury. Rodriguez hasn’t fought since defeating Jeremy Stephens in October 2019.

Along with Holloway vs. Rodriguez, a heavyweight bout between Ovince Saint-Preux and Philipe Lins has also been slated for the fight card, although nothing has been finalized or agreed to just yet. Volkanovski and Ortega are scheduled to fight at UFC 266 in the main event next month in his second title defense.

The UFC’s featherweight division has been highlighted this year on multiple fronts, most notably with Volkanovski and Ortega competing as coaches in the promotion’s return of The Ultimate Fighter. Holloway raised a lot of eyebrows with his dominant performance against Kattar, which was arguably one of the most one-sided fights in UFC history.

The winner of Holloway vs. Rodriguez will more than likely get the next title shot. A trilogy bout between Holloway and Volkanovski is definitely the fight most demanded by the MMA fanbase, especially with the debate over who won both bouts. The rest of 2021 will surely be interesting as the UFC featherweight title picture continues to evolve with time.
