The UFC welterweight division didn’t get a whole lot of action in July, but the rankings shook up anyway. With injuries to Rory MacDonald and Jon Fitch, matchups featuring contenders have fallen to the wayside.
The next big fight on the docket comes in less than one month when Josh Koscheck and Jake Ellenberger look to pop their heads into the title picture. Both men are powerhouse strikers who have an excellent background in wrestling, and that makes this fight difficult to predict.
Here is a look at the top 10 welterweights in all of mixed martial arts.
Despite announcing that he will not be retiring, Nick Diaz is still serving a suspension due to his failed drug test and remains ineligible to place on this list until the suspension has been served.

Former K-1 heavyweight kickboxing champion Badr Hari has been arrested after allegedly taking part in a July fight at a rave in Amsterdam Arena.
Insidekickboxing.com reports that Hari was allegedly part of a three-man group who attacked the victim, and that his assault was the most vicious. After suffering a broken ankle caused by a “full force” stomp to his leg, the injured party identified the K-1 star as his assailant.
Why does this constitute attempted manslaughter? It doesn’t. This attack caused a previous victim to press charges on a past incident that was thought to be in the past. Per insidekickboxing.com:
The man, who owns Amsterdam nightclub Air, says he suffered a broken jaw and lost teeth after being kicked in the head by Hari.
He did not press charges at the time after Hari allegedly promised never to attend the club again, but he was motivated to come forward after the latest allegations against the former K-1 champion. Hari is being charged with assault in relation to the arena incident but faces a possible charge of attempted manslaughter relating to the nightclub owner.
Considered to be a dirty fighter, the Dutch/Moroccan has twice been disqualified for illegal strikes in kickboxing bouts.
He retired from kickboxing after a May bout so he could focus on a career in boxing. Hari retires with a record of 100-11, with 88 victories coming by way of KO or TKO.
Hari is a one-time MMA fighter who found out that you need more than stellar striking to make it in the sport. Only 22 seconds into the first round, Hari submitted to a forearm choke in the 2002 bout.
His kickboxing career includes a pair of fights with Alistair Overeem. Each man won a bout via first-round knockout.

Michael Bisping thinks that Chris Weidman is a weasel. It doesn’t seem to bother the surging title contender too much. The Serra-Longo prodigy recently gave a sound off on Bisping and his upcoming fight with Brian Stann for FightersOnly.
It’s an interesting fight and I think either Stann knocks him out or Bisping wins the decision. I know he is good and talented and he has faced some good guys but every time he has faced a top ten guy he has lost.
Like with the Chael Sonnen fight he did awesome and a lot of people thought he could have won but he didn’t find the way to win. And I am not knocking him – I think he’s a great fighter, I really do – but I question his mentality against top guys when the pressure is on. Which is pretty much what everyone says about him. He has had chances to fight for the title twice now and he doesn’t come through when the pressure is on.
This backhanded compliment goes to show that Weidman knows how to play the game. He is respectful enough to avoid being put in a scrap with the TUF star, but makes sure to point out that Bisping has failed each time he has been given previous opportunities in the UFC.
Bisping performed admirably against Chael Sonnen in January; however, Weidman has a point. When given the opportunity to step up into the elite, the British star dropped fights to both Sonnen and Dan Henderson. The Count has come up short in bouts with Rashad Evans and Wanderlei Silva too.
Currently scheduled to face Stann in the co-main event of UFC 152, Bisping should try and keep Weidman off of his mind. With a dangerous fight right around the corner, focusing on the task at hand is of the utmost importance.
Supposedly told that he will get the ever-evasive title fight if he defeats Stann, the 16-fight UFC veteran has been looking for this opportunity to arrive since his coaching stint on season nine of The Ultimate Fighter.
Weidman is also under consideration for a title shot after his thrashing of Mark Munoz in the main event of UFC on FUEL 4 in July. With a limited roster of fresh contenders for Anderson Silva, it appears as if the win has pushed Weidman to the front of the line.
Will Bisping choke against Stann and miss out on a title shot once again?

According to Josh Koscheck, the bridge to American Kickboxing Academy is burnt. After a fallout with Javier Mendez, The Ultimate Fighter bad boy left the gym after eight years.
FightPromo hosted a video of Koscheck chatting with longtime training partner and friend Jon Fitch. The two discussed Koscheck’s departure from AKA, his relationship with Mendez and Koscheck’s new gym in Fresno, Calif.
The video ends with a disturbing sentence: “I hope the gym burns to the ground.”
Koscheck has been controversial, often accused of being a dirty fighter or faking injuries in the cage, but this one may have crossed a line.
The bleach-blonde bad boy announced his departure from his longtime gym at the UFC 143 post-fight press conference. Shocking many members of the MMA community, the move saw Koscheck voluntarily step away from one of the most celebrated fight camps in the sport.
“There was a lot of poison going on around there and I’m really disappointed because we had a good thing going. It was a good thing and I think people’s egos got in the way. Well, not people just Javier, his ego got in the way, and too many cameras in the gym and him trying to build himself up and his brand”
Koscheck’s next fight is exactly one month from today, as he will meet Jake Ellenberger on the main card of UFC 151. After losing a close fight with Johny Hendricks, Kos knows that he is losing his place at the top of the division. Is this a weird attempt at getting some publicity for the bout?

The boys over at UFC.com were busy on Tuesday night, as a slew of new fights were announced for UFC on FX 5. Officially announcing six bouts for the October 5 card, fans were treated to announcements from flyweight all the way up to heavyweight.
The most exciting fight added to the card is a potential title eliminator for the UFC flyweight championship.
Ultimate Fighter winner John Dodson will meet world ranked lightweight Jussier da Silva.
Dodson is 2-0 in the UFC and already has a career win over fellow flyweight John Moraga. Meanwhile, da Silva is a former Shooto Flyweight champion who holds a professional record of 14-1.
With Dodson and da Silva ranking in a No. 7 and No. 4 respectively on the flyweight chart, logic says that this fight will likely determine the first challenger for the newly created UFC Flyweight championship.
In another flyweight contest, green-haired warrior Louis Gaudinot meets a returned Darren Uyenoyama.
Both men are coming off of exciting wins as Gaudinot won a hard fought battle against John Lineker in his last appearance, and Uyenoyama picked up a signature victory when he dominated Kid Yamamoto at the inaugural UFC on Fox event.
Heavyweights will collide after a UFC on Fox 4 matchup was postponed due to injury.
Matt Mitrione and Rob Broughton will do battle on Minneapolis card.
Mitrione is returning from the first loss of his career last October. Broughton is trying to snap a two-fight skid after losing back-to-back contests with Travis Browne and Phil de Fries.
UFC veteran Josh Neer returns in a welterweight matchup against Ultimate Fighter contestant Justin Edwards.
Neer recently saw a six-fight winning streak snapped when he lost to Mike Pyle in June.
Edwards, on the other hand, hasn’t seen much momentum in the UFC, as he has put together a 1-2 record with the organization.
In a striker’s dream, Bart Palaszewski will step into the cage with dangerous stand-up technician Diego Nunes.
Palaszewski debuted with a vicious knockout of Tyson Griffin, but found himself manhandled by Hatsu Hioki at UFC 144.
Nunes has gone 6-3 since working for Zuffa and holds signature wins over Mike Brown and Manny Gamburyan. He is coming off of a decision loss to Dennis Siver back in April.
Finally, a lightweight bout featuring Carlo Prater and Marcus LeVesseur.
Prater scored a win over Erick Silva in January via disqualification.
The decision was panned by many, claiming that the strike to the back of the head was not enough to warrant the disqualification.
LeVesseur is an accomplished wrestler who fell to Cody McKenzie and his deadly guillotine at UFC on FUEL 3.
All of that action sits on top of a previously announced battle in the heavyweight division between Travis Browne and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.
Get ready for UFC on FX 5, because it is quickly shaping up to be an excellent card.

Professional fighters tend to find themselves on the muscular side of the anatomical spectrum. With intense physical training taking up most of their time, it’s easy to see why. These athletes focus on cardiovascular conditioning, which helps them breathe in the cage. By improving their cardio, fighters also see fat melt off of their bones.
In addition, the strength programs that these warriors endure transform some men into rock monsters who appear to be chiseled out of granite.
However, there are exceptions to every rule. For every Alistair Overeem or Todd Duffee in existence, there are six overweight, out-of-shape fighters who look like their personal trainer is Aunt Jemima.
