Erick Silva will face a big step up in competition when he goes up against Jon Fitch at UFC 153. It is sure to be his most difficult test to date and should he emerge victorious, he will be vaulted up the welterweight ladder.
Let’s explore some of the key points that Silva will need to follow in order to win this fight.

When UFC 155 rolls around at the end of the year, it will feature two of the baddest men on the planet fighting for the heavyweight title.
Junior dos Santos will defend his belt for the second time against the man he took it from, Cain Velasquez.
“Cigano” defeated Velasquez on the first UFC on Fox event. The KO came one minute and four seconds into the first round. it was quick, devastating, and everything we as fans have come to expect from dos Santos.
Since that time, dos Santos has defended his title once against Frank Mir, while Velasquez has earned himself another shot with his win over “Bigfoot” Silva. There have been people asking lately if the champion is overlooking his upcoming fight with Velasquez, in favour of a potential fight against Alistair Overeem next year.
Overeem did recently talk a lot of trash aimed at dos Santos, and I think he simply got tired of hearing it. Dos Santos wanted the trash talking to stop, and therefore focused some of his attention towards a potential fight with Overeem.
That is not to say he overlooked Velasquez, however. Despite winning the fight with a quick KO, Junior knows that Velasquez is one of the most dangerous opponents in the heavyweight division. A motivated Cain, is a dangerous Cain. Just ask “Bigfoot” Silva.
I do not believe dos Santos is overlooking his coming fight with Velasquez. He will be training hard, and will show up to the fight ready. Velasquez will be ready as well, and I doubt he lets this fight end a minute and a bit in.
Velasquez is motivated and dangerous. So is Junior dos Santos. Sparks will fly as these two heavyweights collide for the second time, with the heavyweight belt on the line. Whatever you do, don’t blink!

Erick Silva is easily one of the first names you hear when talking about hot UFC prospects.
And so far, it appears that the hype behind him is completely justified. Silva made his UFC debut with a forty-second TKO victory over Luis Ramos.
Watching that fight made me excited to see more of this fighter competing in the Octagon. Next came his controversial DQ loss to Carlo Prater in a fight Silva dominated.
His latest appearance put him against the smothering wrestling style of Charlie Brenneman. He passed that test with flying colours and won via rear-naked choke.
Silva will take his biggest step yet when he faces the powerful and grinding wrestling style of Jon Fitch. This is easily the biggest fight of Silva’s career, as Fitch has been a perennial contender for many years. That’s okay because Erick Silva is poised to roll over Jon Fitch.
Silva has all the right tools to make Fitch’s losing streak continue: He is fast, he is athletic and he has good striking ability. Having achieved black-belt status in Brazilian jiu jitsu, he is excellent on the ground. He also knows how to handle the grinding wrestling style of Fitch.
Silva also holds a black belt in Judo, which gives him excellent takedown defense. That will be key in his coming fight. He has better striking than Fitch, and I expect him to pick him apart on the feet, while avoiding and defending against Fitch’s relentless takedown attempts.
Fitch has been out-struck before, and I see this fight being more of the same. Silva has a very diverse and powerful striking arsenal that is sure to give Fitch problems.
There is a tremendous amount of hype surrounding Erick Silva now. Silva wants to prove that he is indeed welterweight elite, and with a convincing win over Fitch, he will be one step closer to achieving that goal.

“Rowdy” Ronda Rousey has taken the world of MMA and WMMA by storm.
Her high-level fighting skills, coupled with the fact that she is an excellent self-promoter, have made her a true threat inside and outside of the cage.
Rousey has had a meteoric rise to MMA stardom. She got many people interested with her impressive streak of four straight armbar finishes, each of those coming in the first minute of the first round of its respective fight.
Then her promoting side kicked in and she was able to land a fight with Miesha Tate, who was at that time the Strikeforce bantamweight champion.
In her most difficult fight to date, Rousey came up huge and secured an armbar to win the title. Her first title defense, against Canadian Sarah Kaufman, went off without a hitch, proving that Rousey is currently the best female MMA fighter in the world.
With all the hype surrounding Rousey, there is bound to be some backlash. It comes in the form of a question: Has her importance to MMA been overstated?
I strongly answer no.
Rousey has become the face of WMMA today. WMMA has never gotten the same level of respect as the men’s side of the sport.
With Rousey leading the charge, though, the future is looking bright.
She also happens to be in UFC president Dana White‘s good graces—so much so that he could potentially see her being the first woman to fight in the UFC.
Imagine that for a second. Rousey will be breaking barriers and carrying WMMA into the mainstream. Rousey is the most important female fighter the sport has ever seen. Her mix of fighting skill and charisma will see her fight well and promote the sport she loves.
Rousey‘s importance to MMA hasn’t been overstated. It has been understated. With Rousey leading the charge, hopefully we soon see two woman squaring off in the UFC Octagon.
Once that goal is accomplished, the sky is the limit.

Hype has been following Michael Johnson ever since he fought his way into the The Ultimate Fighter house. The only question was, will Johnson live up to it?
Tonight, he took a big step in proving that the hype is justified and he’s ready to go.
Since losing to Jonathan Brookins in the TUF 12 Finale, Johnson has looked great.
He hit a small speed bump against Paul Sass, but since that loss he has rattled off solid wins against Shane Roller, Tony Ferguson and most recently, a wicked KO of Danny Castillo.
Johnson is looking better and better with each passing fight. He is striking with pin-point accuracy and there’s a ton of power behind every punch. He also has something that is key to being a fighter, which is a lot of heart.
Look no further than his fight against Castillo tonight. He got caught by a huge right hand that floored him early, and Castillo nearly finished him with some ground and pound and attempted submissions. But Johnson survived the round and came roaring back to knock out his opponent.
That’s heart.
Johnson still has room to grow, and needs to round out his skills a little bit more. He’s only 26 years old and is still a few years from hitting the prime of his career. He deserves a step up in competition for his next fight and I believe he will get one.
If he keeps up his current pace against increased competition, “The Menace” will be a real and very dangerous threat in the deep lightweight division.

Diego Nunes has hit a bit of a rough patch in his mixed martial arts career.
Since his UFC debut, Nunes has gone 2-2 winning fights against Mike Thomas Brown and Manny Gamburyan, while losing to Kenny Florian and Dennis Siver in his latest fight.
Nunes always seems to be on the cusp of becoming a contender in the featherweight division before losing a fight that pushes him further down the ladder.
He has an excellent all-around game, and can excel wherever the fight takes place.
His opponent Bart Palaszewski is also coming off of a decision loss in his latest UFC fight to Hatsu Hioki. Both of these fighters need a win to stay relevant in the ever improving featherweight division.
With that being said, I believe Nunes wins this fight.
He will use his striking to control Palaszewski, and wear him down to win the decision. Question is will Nunes ever get back into title contention? At this moment it is too soon to tell. Nunes has all the right things going for him.
He is a well-rounded fighter and he trains with an excellent Black House team in Brazil. He just can’t seem to put it all together and string together a few wins.
Nunes would also need to work on his wrestling and takedown defense. In the past, those areas were his weakest facet of his game.
He needs to play to his strengths in the coming fight. He needs to use his excellent striking and footwork to keep Palaszewski off balance, before finding the right moment to attempt to finish the fight.
He could also bring the fight to the mat, where he could use his Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills to attempt a submission.
If he doesn’t begin to win fights on a consistent basis, he will most likely be destined for a gatekeeper role.
