It’s a little more than eight months since MMA veteran Gary Goodridge fought Gegard Mousasi at FEG’s Dynamite!! 2009 New Year’s Eve show in Japan. Eight months, and still he hasn’t seen a single penny of the money he’s owed for that bout, Goodridge told MMA Fighting earlier Wednesday.

“I’m pissed off. I’m fed up. I want my money,” said the 44-year-old Goodridge. “Of course, you’re like any other fighter at first, you stay quiet. You think, I stake my reputation and my whole career with these people. Of course they’re gonna pay. Of course they’re gonna pay, since my whole livelihood came from them in the last 13 years. Now it’s eight months and it’s quite obvious I’m not getting paid. So I’m going to open my mouth now.”

After a brief summer lull followed by an incredibly busy weekend in Oakland, The MMA Wrap-Up returns to ask the question: What do we make of both Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva now? As so often seems to be the case after a particularly interesting and entertaining fight card, there really aren’t any easy answers.

Join me as a I stare awkwardly into a camera and talk about the complicated blend of emotions UFC 117 left us with after sweeping in and out of our lives one summer like a beautiful young intern from NYU.

And in case you’re wondering whether it’s worth your time to click the play button below, let me go ahead and assure you that yes, there is at least one Paulo Filho joke in this video. That didn’t help to convince you, did it?

OAKLAND – On a clear Saturday afternoon in August Randy Couture slipped on an Oakland A’s jersey, a UFC baseball cap, and a comfortable pair of jeans and headed out to the ballpark to partake in that most easily embarrassing of all public sports outings: the ceremonial first pitch.

Not that Couture was worried. He’d done this only a few weeks before in Chicago, and after fighting in a cage for most of his professional life, playing an abbreviated game of catch in front of a crowd that’s still mostly trickling into the stadium is a relatively low-stress activity.

It was just another appearance. Another thing he had to do to satisfy the PR gods.

But with his big fight against boxing legend James Toney at UFC 118 just a few weeks away, and with the summer action movie “The Expendables” to promote along with these occasional UFC-related obligations, it begs the question: when does Couture even find time to hit the gym these days? Is it possible he’s not completely convinced that Toney is a challenge worth getting too worked up over?

For a man in Mike Dolce‘s line of work, watching Thiago Alves miss weight by a half-pound before UFC 117 last week wasn’t just aggravating, it was downright painful.

“It hurts me,” Dolce, an MMA fighter, self-styled nutritionist, and lifestyle guru, told MMA Fighting. “It hurts my soul to see these guys work so hard in the gym their whole damn lives, get to the UFC, the biggest stage for MMA in the world, and have it all go to sh-t the couple days before the weigh-in just because they haven’t learned the right information or they’re listening to the wrong people.”

That’s why Dolce wasted no time in getting in contact with Alves’ manager with a very simple offer to help “The Pitbull” put these problems behind him once and for all.

Anderson Silva‘s manager, Ed Soares, appeared on “The MMA Hour” with Ariel Helwani earlier today to discuss the aftermath of Silva’s successful title defense at UFC 117. While he stopped short of arguing against an immediate rematch for Chael Sonnen, he didn’t seem terribly enthusiastic about the idea either.

“At the end of the day, whatever the UFC wants, we’ll do. No problem. There’s a part of me that thinks that it would make a lot of sense to do a rematch. I don’t know where [the UFC’s] head’s at, and what they want to do. But on the other hand I feel like, you know what? He had his opportunity.”

Soares suggested that because Sonnen used his wrestling skills to dominate the vast majority of the fight and yet still lost, that could be seen as a reason not to give him another crack at the champion.

As Anderson Silva made his way to the Octagon in Oakland on Saturday night, Chael Sonnen paced around inside the cage, staring Silva down and beckoning for him to come on inside and get a piece. It was classic pro wrestling-style stuff, and it perfectly complimented Sonnen’s entire pre-fight schtick.

That was something I expected from Sonnen on fight night. It was what happened after that really surprised me.

As Silva reminded us several times, talking is easy. Doing it as well and in as consistently entertaining a fashion as Sonnen is a little harder, but it’s still nothing compared to going toe-to-toe with the pound-for-pound best in the sport. Sonnen’s pre-fight routine seemed like an act, but his performance in the fight proved that even if no one else believed he could back up those words, he never doubted it for a second.
