Khabib

Ahead of tomorrow’s UFC lightweight championship unification clash, Khabib ‘The Eagle’ Nurmagomedov has been accused of tipping the lightweight scales beyond championship weight by veteran nutritionist and weight cutting expert, Mike Dolce.

Khabib, who was first to the scales this morning ahead of both opponent, Justin Gaethje, and potential backup, Michael Chandler who both successfully stepped in at 155-pounds, required the use of a towel before stepping on the scales.

The 32-year-old stripped down beyond his briefs, stepping onto the scales with officials either side, before the Dagestan native was announced at a championship weight of 155-pounds, mere seconds later. Appearing somewhat relieved, Khabib let out a sigh and covered his face before posing on the scales.

In the above video, we can see the official briefly examine the grey bar which is shaking as Khabib steps foot onto the scale. Before the official slides back the counterweight on the right-hand side to its original position, the grey balance bar begins to float upwards, which would indicate the competitor on the scales is above the 155-pound limit set on this occasion. As we can see in the below video of interim champion, Gaethje who made weight this morning, the grey bar begins to rise and then returns to balance in the middle, with the official then resetting the counterweight.

Speaking after the weigh-ins, the above mentioned, Dolce commented on Khabib’s step to the scales, detailing how the official had made an error, and how the champion was not on “scratch weight“.

Watch (Justin) Gaethje, watch the difference in how he weighs in, Gaethje,” Dolce said. “Watch the scale again, watch how it tips. It hits the top, comes back down, and [the official] pause and then wipes it. Look at how long it takes him to decide. Comes back down, stabilizes in the middle. He even pauses still and then he wipes it and calls it. Now watch Khabib (Nurmagomedov), here we go, up up up, wipes it on an upward trajectory. He’s heavy here!

Guys, this is incorrect. That is wrong. An error. Let’s call it a human error. Nonetheless, most likely in this moment, Khabib Nurmagomedov was not 155-pounds. He was not scratch weight. Now, would he have made weight? Sure. Let’s say he would. I’m a Khabib fan. I want this fight to happen and I don’t think Gaethje cares at all. But, at the same time, this was wrong. This was wrong, this was an error!

Nick Diaz rip

Nutritionist Mike Dolce has told the story about the time Nick Diaz attempted to jump former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks.

Hendricks had initially missed weight by less than one pound for his first fight against Robbie Lawler at UFC 171 in 2014. Diaz was in the crowd taunting ‘Big Rig’ for his weight miss, calling his welterweight rival “heavy” and “fat”. According to Dolce, the abuse didn’t stop there, the nutritionist explained.

“When he steps on the scale, who’s front and center? Nick Diaz,” Dolce began. “Nick Diaz and Nate Diaz are sitting front and center. Nick Diaz is heckling Johny on the scale, talking shit to Johny while Johny’s trying to weigh in. Insane. So Johny is a little bit over, they announce he’s a half a pound over, he gets off the scale, he walks over, he does the little face-off with Robbie, it’s no big deal. We get off, everyone wants to do media and I say guys, leave us alone. We have work to do. We’re still working right now, please leave us alone. We’ll be back in an hour to make weight, then you can talk and ask any question you want.

“We grab his gear, we go
outside,” Dolce continued. “As we’re walking through the parking lot, Dana
White’s personal bodyguard comes running over, and he’s f**king massive. Like
an NFL linebacker, like 6’6”, 300 pounds, ripped, in shape, yolked, big f**king
Hawaiian dude. He’s like ‘Dolce, Dolce, you can’t go man, you’ve got to be
careful! Nick Diaz is looking for Johny, he wants to fight him!’ I was like
‘what? What are you talking about?’

“He’s like ‘he’s looking for him in the parking lot, right now, he wants to fight Johny Hendricks right now in the parking lot!’ I was like ‘are you f**king kidding me?’ Then all of the sudden we hear people screaming like ‘there he is!’ All of the sudden like a riot breaks out in the parking lot. Johny is all geared up, we’re all geared up. We’re going to finish cutting half a pound of f**king weight, and we’re like ‘oh fuck, Nick Diaz and all the 209 boys are about to jump us in the f**king parking lot — like during the f**king UFC weigh-ins. So we snatch up all our gear and we’re like we gotta get the f**k out of here before these boys figure out it’s us. So we’re like running with our gym bags and our gear, running through the parking lot, run across the street, get to the place we’re going. We’re like ‘that was f**king crazy.’” (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)

Mike Dolce Unsure of Ronda Rousey’s Future, ‘Wouldn’t be Surprised’ if She Retires

Well known nutritionist in the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Mike Dolce has helped countless fighters make weight for their fights. Those struggling with weight such as Thiago Alves and Kelvin Gastelum have enlisted Dolce’s services. Both fighters have had success with Dolce, but when they dropped his services the issues came back.

Before bringing Dolce on board, “Rowdy” only ate one meal a day. Dolce didn’t like the sound of that and offered to help Rousey with his own dietary program. She accepted his services and he has been her nutritionist ever since.

Dolce was in the corner of Rousey at UFC 207 and witnessed the once dominant women’s bantamweight champion get demolished in 48 seconds. Dolce told MMAFighting.com that it wouldn’t surprise him to see Rousey walk away from the sport:

“I wouldn’t be surprised either way, I want to make sure that’s contextual. If she says, ‘I want to be back for Super Bowl weekend or the July 4th card,’ I would not be surprised in the slightest. If she says, ‘I’ve done my thing in MMA, I’m gonna retire as a legend in the sport, specifically for WMMA,’ I wouldn’t be surprised, either. I truly think it’s 50-50 right now.”

It hasn’t been been a full week since Rousey suffered the second loss of her career. Dolce doesn’t believe “Rowdy” knows her next move yet.

“I think it’s gonna take some time. I don’t think she truly knows right now. As any good athlete, she should take her time to really think about it.”

If Rousey decides to remain competing, she will have to deal with a division that is evolving. Of the other 135-pound female fighters in the top five, three of them have yet to trade leather with “Rowdy.” The other is Holy Holm, who decimated Rousey back in Nov. 2015.

“Rowdy” currently sits at no. 4 in the division.

Rousey’s Coach: I Wouldn’t Be Surprised If She Retires

The return of former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey didn’t go quite to plan for ‘The Rowdy One’ to say the least, as she was taken out by 135-pound champ Amanda Nunes in only 48 seconds of the first round of their UFC 207 main event meeting earlier this past weekend (Friday December 30, 201).

After having suffered the second consecutive loss of her mixed martial arts (MMA) career, both by way of knockout, the career of Rousey now remains in question. Rousey’s nutrition coach Mike Dolce tells MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani, however, that he wouldn’t be surprised if the former Olympic judoka decides to hang up the gloves, or if she tries to give it another go:

“I wouldn’t be surprised either way,” Dolce said. “I want to make sure that’s contextual.

“I think it’s gonna take some time,” Dolce said. “I don’t think she truly knows right now. As any good athlete, she should take her time to really think about it.”

Rousey’s first career loss came at the hands of the now-former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm, who finished ‘Rowdy’ in the second round of their UFC 193 meeting from Melbourne, Australia in November of 2015. After suffering traumatic loss Rousey admitted to having had thoughts of suicide, but was able to rebuild herself mentally in order to prepare for a return against Nunes.

Now that she has suffered yet another loss the fear of those thoughts re-entering Rousey’s head now linger, but according to Dolce that shouldn’t be a concern as she is surrounded by a great support system:

“No, there’s no concern about that,” Dolce said. “She’s in a great place. She has an amazing support system around her, truly. I think she’s at an excellent point in her life. And this is my personal opinion, what happened in Australia against Holly, that was like a death. It was the death — and she had said — of who she wanted to be and what she wanted to be.”

9778659-amanda-nunes-ronda-rousey-mma-ufc-207-nunes-vs-rousey-850x560[1]Leading up to the bout with Nunes, Rousey looked to be in tremendous shape before taking center Octagon in Vegas; arguably looking to be in the best shape of her career.

For those who say Rousey wasn’t prepared to step in and fight Nunes, Dolce revealed that ‘Rowdy’ in fact made some changes to her lifestyle in order to be better prepared for ‘The Lioness’:

“That shows the dedication of the athlete,” Dolce said. “She had really made some lifestyle changes, put her training first. So I don’t think, there’s no excuses. She did everything and had every opportunity to be perfectly prepare and she was for this fight. Kudos have to go to Amanda Nunes for putting on an amazing performance and going out there and getting the win over Ronda Rousey, who was well-prepared.”

After having suffered yet another dramatically lopsided knockout loss for the first time in her career, do you think we’ll ever see Rousey compete inside the Octagon again?
