On a pay-per-view card with only two finishes, one by submission and one by technical knockout, it’s a pretty easy guess which fighters earned two of the three UFC 161: Evans vs. Henderson “Fight Night” bonuses. The only question was who would earn the third.
At the post-fight press conference UFC president Dana White awarded the “Knockout of the Night” to Shawn Jordan, while James Krause earned “Submission of the Night” and “Fight of the Night” for his victory over San Stout.
Each fighter earned $50,000 for each bonus giving Krause an extra $100,000 after Saturday night.
UFC 161: Evans vs. Henderson took place on June 15, 2013 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada with the main event airing on pay-per-view, while the prelim card was split between FX television and streaming video on the web.
The event drew a reported attendance of 14,474 fans into the MTS Centre for a live gate of $3.15 million.
Jordon needed 59-seconds to finish his friend Pat Barry by TKO, landing with a couple of rights sending ‘HD’ to the mat. ‘The Savage’ pounced quickly raining down right hands to Barry’s head as he tried to cover up. The referee was forced to jump in to stop the action.
Krause stepped in as a late replacement against Octagon vet Stout. Using his advantage in reach Krause mixed things up with kicks and punches to score from the outside. A head-kick opened up a big cut on Stout’s head leaving the two bloodied up whenever they clinched. In the final round the two locked up in the remaining seconds as Stout tried valiantly to finish he was caught in an arm-in guillotine and was unable to escape. The end came with just 13-seconds left in the fight giving Krause his first win inside the Octagon.
