Jon “Bones” Jones defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at 2:37 in the third round of their UFC 128 title tilt and took the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion belt. Jones showed amazing ease in the fight that made Rua look rocked and gassing in the first round. Jones’ next opponent is teammate Rashad Evans, but if Evans hasn’t already figured out how to beat Jones, who he’s trained with day in and out, then it looks like Jones will be sitting atop the Light Heavyweight throne for a long-time coming.

To most, the Main Card went exactly as expected with Urijah Faber taking a Unanimous Decision win over Eddie Wineland who showed a strong first round but was no match for Faber’s vast improving stand-up skills displayed in the second and third rounds with a takedown in the final minute.  The win earned Faber a title-shot against UFC Bantamweight Champ, Dominick Cruz. Jim Miller proved Kamal Shalorus needs a lot more weaponry in his arsenal than his wrestling to compete with the UFC big boys. Nate Marquardt unsurprisingly dominated his late replacement match up, Dan Miller, and Brendan Schaub knocked out Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic late in the third round. Both fighters lost points for illegal blows in the second round but Cro Cop finished the round strong with his boxing. However, he was no match for Schaub in the third round and took the loss in what may be his final UFC bout.

If you followed our UFC 128 Best Bets, congratulations for making money off Jim Miller and Mike Pyle. Stay tuned to our UFC 129 Best Bets.

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (+160)
Shogun is the current UFC Lightweight Champion and proved worthy of the title in both fights with Lyoto Machida as many remember he should have won that first fight against “The Dragon” at UFC 104. We know that Rua has the powerful leg kicks needed to take out Jon Jones. Plus, we gotta say, it’s not cool that Jon Jones has already been signing autographs as “Champion 2011″. We’ve all seen the movies and know where that’s going. The young hero always gets a little too cocky and has to be humbled again before his next great win. Plus at +155 and +160, you just can’t beat the value on Rua for this fight.

Jim Miller (-260)
The UFC Lightweight is on a 6 win hot streak with his last victory suffered by Charles Oliveira who was submitted by Miller’s kneebar in the first 2 minutes of the first round at UFC 124. Miller’s only loss in his UFC career was a Unanimous Decision to number 1 Lightweight title contender, Gray Maynard. Miller’s UFC 128 opponent is WEC veteran, Kamal Shalorus who has sound BJJ and catch wrestling skills and should give Miller a good match. But Miller has beaten good ground gamers before and Shalorus just may not be ready for Miller’s caliber in his UFC debut.

Mike Pyle (+145)
Pyle is always underestimated but after he beat John Hathaway as a +400 underdog at UFC 120, we vowed never to bet against him again. Pyle’s matchup against Ricardo Almeida looks pretty even for us as both fighters are most comfortable on the ground, but Pyle’s been working heavily with Xtreme Couture Boxing Coach, Gil Martinez and we’ve seen with Gray Maynard that Martinez is solidly improving the stand-up skills of his ground gamers.

Eddie Wineland Worth Laying the Dog Money at +330

Urijah Faber is the strong favorite at -430 (and some cases -500) against his opponent, Eddie Wineland but it’s hard to accept Wineland as such a huge underdog. The great part is, he’s definitely worth laying some cash on at a +300 or more value. Wineland is still a virtually unknown 135er but […]

Urijah Faber is the strong favorite at -430 (and some cases -500) against his opponent, Eddie Wineland but it’s hard to accept Wineland as such a huge underdog. The great part is, he’s definitely worth laying some cash on at a +300 or more value. Wineland is still a virtually unknown 135er but he’s on a four fight win streak. Arguably, he hasn’t faced anywhere near top competition. The most recognizable name he’s beaten is George Roop who at 6′1″ with a natural weight of about 160, proved he couldn’t handle that low of a weight class.

But whether or not Wineland has faced top competition should be less of an issue, as we’ve seen Jon Jones tear apart competitors in both the lowest rankings and the top ten. This is Wineland’s first opportunity to mix it up with a well known fighter. Urijah Faber moved back down to Bantamweight and choked out Takeya Mizugaki within the first round, but was it enough to tell us he’s unstoppable in that division? The sportsbooks seem to think so, but the bottom line is we’ve got two strong wrestlers with demonstrated knockout powers pinned against each other this Saturday night and if you’re a betting person, Wineland is worth the gamble.

Can the UFC Octagon Girls Outshine the Jersey Shore Girls on Their Own Turf?

UFC 128 hits the Prudential Center in New Jersey this Saturday night, and as we write this our favorite Octagon Girls are landing in Jersey territory. UFC 128 hits the Prudential Center in New Jersey this Saturday night, and as we write this our favorite Octagon Girls are landing in Jersey territory. But can our UFC lovelies stand up to the “Jersey Shore” girls if heaven forbid a fist pumping smash outbreak occurs…and what on earth exactly would that be? I don’t know but let’s pit our girls against theirs, just for fun’s sake and see who comes out on top.

First we put our two heavy hitters head-to-head:
Jenni “JWoww” Farley vs. Arianny Celeste
CelesteJwoww
Let’s face it, both are the hottest of their crew. Both have fantastic implants. But only one has graced the cover of Playboy. Celeste takes the victory, by a total KO!

Next we move onto the darlings of the two groups:
Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola vs. Brittney Palmer
SweetheartPalmer
This is a tough call. These two seem to measure up quite equally. Both have nice stomachs and nice smiles. But oops! Just yesterday, an all too NSFW picture of Sammi Sweetheart surfaced on the internet and well…frankly, it’s a bit too tacky for our taste. We’ll gladly wait for Brittney Palmer’s impending Playboy Pictorial. A Unanimous Decision win for Palmer!

Onto the final round in our Jersey Shore vs UFC Octagon Girls battle…

Here we have our toughest challengers:
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi vs. Chandella Powell
SnookiPowell
We know what you’re thinking…. DRAW right? Absolutely not! We may have found the only photo in existence that makes Chandella look hot (and yes, we unfairly used it above instead of going with this one) but trust us, we’ve seen her up close and personal and yes, we’d smash that. Points deducted on Chandella for not being the most photogenic, but come on… Snooki? There’s a reason those thighs touch! Nature probably doesn’t want you going in there. Her thighs should actually be permanently fused together. Powell scores a very big submission (of our hearts) win here. We wouldn’t even choose Snooki if we were locked into an arm bar and it was tap [that] or suffer a broken arm.

So there you have it! We don’t have to worry. Our UFC Octagon Girls can definitely hold their own in Jersey.
