While Ronda Rousey has been the marquee female figure in MMA this year, you won’t want to miss these two women face off later this year in Strikeforce.

MMAfighting.com reports that Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir will now feature a women’s bantamweight bout between top up-and-comer Liz Carmouche and Olympic wrestling silver medalist Sara McMann.

Carmouche has looked very impressive since losing back-to-back fights in Strikeforce against Marloes Coenen and Sarah Kaufman in 2011 by bouncing back to win back-to-back fights in Invicta. In Carmouche’s last bout, she picked up the win by submission via rear-naked choke in the second round.

Her opponent is the former Olympian Sara McMann. McMann, whose ink is still wet on the Strikeforce contact she signed earlier this week, will be making her Strikeforce debut coming off her Invicta Fight of the Night victory over Shayna Baszler back in July.

Since making her MMA debut in 2011, McMann has gone 6-0 and will look for the biggest win of her young MMA career against Carmouche.

Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir is scheduled for November 3 in Oklahoma City and will be headlined by a huge Strikeforce-UFC crossover fight between Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier and former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir. Also on the card is a fight for the middleweight championship between Luke Rockhold and Lorenz Larkin.

There was no indication whether the bout would be featured on the main or preliminary card, but the winner of this bantamweight matchup will likely be next in line for a title shot against Ronda Rousey sometime in 2013.

If you’re looking for a middleweight slugfest, a potential good one was booked today.

MMAjunkie.com reports that UFC middleweight veterans Patrick Cote and Alessio Sakara will fight at UFC 154 in Montreal.

Cote, who was briefly linked to a fight against Wanderlei Silva, has lost four straight fights inside the Octagon. During a short stint outside the UFC, Cote won four fights in a row and was called to return to the Octagon on short notice against former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Cung Le at UFC 148. Le picked up the win in a highly contested bout.

Sakara was beginning to climb the ranks in the UFC middleweight division before being derailed by back-to-back losses to top contenders Chris Weidman and Brian Stann.

With both men having a tough go of late with the UFC, the loser of this bout may receive his walking papers unless both men just put on a heck of a fight, which both Cote and Sakara are known to do.

UFC 154 is scheduled to be headlined by the return of Georges St-Pierre in a unification Welterweight Championship bout against current interim champion Carlos Condit. The event will be co-headlined by a title eliminator fight between Martin Kampmann and Johny Hendricks.

The bout is likely to serve on the preliminary card scheduled to appear on FX.

UFC 154 is scheduled to take place on November 17th at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

UFC 155 is already shaping up to be one of the best cards of the year; and it’s still four months away!

Already featuring the Heavyweight Championship rematch between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez and the anticipated clash of Chael Sonnen and Forrest Griffin, now the UFC has added some top lightweights to the mix.

MMAFighting.com reports that Joe Lauzon and Gray Maynard will now be fighting at the year end show.

Maynard, who is best known for his rivalry with former Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar, is coming off a win against Clay Guida at UFC on FX back in June. The bout was noted for being very lackluster due to Guida seemingly running away from Maynard throughout the contest.

In the end, Maynard picked up a much needed decision victory as he was coming off a knockout loss to the then-champion Edgar.

Lauzon is coming off on what many considered to be the best fight of the year so far with his big submission win against Jamie Varner at UFC on Fox just two weeks ago.

Lauzon is a top med-tier fighter in the lightweight division, so a fight with former title contender Maynard is a nice step-up for “J-Lau” and a win would likely be the biggest of his career.

The bout is likely to serve on the main card at UFC 155 which is expected to take place on December 29th in Las Vegas.
