Since entering the UFC in June of 2006, Anderson Silva has dominated every opponent that’s come his way.

In fact, Silva hasn’t lost as he’s posted a perfect 14-0 on route to being declared the undisputed UFC middleweight champion.

And, since Silva’s been crowned the champion, he’s defended his middleweight title nine consecutive times defeating opponents such as Dan Henderson, Chael Sonnen and Vitor Belfort.

But, Silva’s not the only man to dominate his weight class.

Enter Jon Jones.

Jones, a younger version of Silva, is only 24 years old and has lost just one fight in his UFC career via disqualification to Matt Hamill at The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights Finale.

Following his loss, “Bones” Jones went on to win three consecutive fights, ultimately earning himself a light heavyweight title shot against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 128.

Jones became the youngest champion in UFC history as he knocked out Rua at the midpoint of Round 3.

After both fighters’ dominance over the past several years, UFC fans across the globe began to ask one question.

Will Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones happen?

The original answer was “no” as it appeared Silva was moving closer towards a “super-fight” with Georges St-Pierre as conditions were set in order for the fight to happen.

But, as of late, St-Pierre has entertained the option of dropping to the lightweight division in the upcoming future.

While it’s yet to be determined if St-Pierre will actually make the transition, if he were to, the likelihood of Silva vs. Jones would greatly increase.

If Jones and Silva can continue to dominate their respected divisions, they’ll have no choice but to square off in one of the biggest matches in UFC history.

Is Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones becoming a real possibility?

Could Anderson Silva Win the UFC Heavyweight Title?

It was June 28, 2006, when Anderson Silva entered the UFC Octagon for the first time to take on a highly dangerous striker, Chris Leben.

It was Silva, however, who demonstrated the dangerous striking as he knocked out Leben just 49 seconds into Round 1.

In his very next fight, Silva went on to be declared the UFC middleweight champion by dethroning Rich Franklin via knockout by knees.

Silva continued his dominance as he would go on to defend his middleweight title five consecutive fights before arriving to UFC 101.

This time Silva wouldn’t have to defend his title as he would take on light heavyweight, Forrest Griffin. While many UFC fans across the globe thought it would be Silva’s first true test, he proved them wrong by embarrassing Griffin and eventually knocking him out at 3:23 of the first round.

Silva went on to win his next four fights, including a come-from-behind victory over Chael Sonnen at UFC 117. To date, Silva has won 14 consecutive fights as fans begin to wonder what’s next for the living legend.

Prior to this month, the chances of seeing Silva square off in a light heavyweight fight were fairly slim. However, Silva recently announced he would remain in the UFC and fight for another seven years.

Over the course of the next seven years, Silva is more than likely to make the transition to the 205-pound weight class as he’ll have little competition remaining in the middleweight division.

However, fans can’t look past the Silva vs. Sonnen rematch as he was manhandled the first 4.5 rounds in their first go-around.

But, the question is, what happens if Silva dominates the light heavyweight division? Could he move even higher and fight with the heavyweights?

What many UFC fans fail to realize is that Silva is an oversized middleweight as his “walking around” weight is said to be close to 230 pounds. Therefore, a heavyweight fight isn’t as complex as some fans may think, as the weight difference isn’t an overwhelming amount.

This leads us to two final questions:

Could Anderson Silva hang with the heavyweight fighters?

And, more importantly:

Could Anderson Silva win the UFC heavyweight title?

In a little over a month, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will be traveling to Toronto, Ontario for UFC 140.

The main card will be headlined around UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who will look to successfully defend his title against No. 1 contender Lyoto Machida.

Also featured on the main card is the Canadian product Rory MacDonald, who will look to continue in his recent success against the highly dangerous Brian Ebersole.

But, that all changed today when UFC President Dana White announced that MacDonald will no longer be fighting due to an injury he endured in training preparations leading up to his bout with Ebersole.

Now, instead of fighting MacDonald, Ebersole will take on up and coming welterweight Claude “The Prince” Patrick.

Patrick was originally scheduled to square off with Rich Attonito, but graciously accepted White’s offer to fight Ebersole.

Attonito will now await an opponent for his bout that is nearly a month away.

There has been no word on the extent of MacDonald’s injury.
