“Korean Zombie” Update: Jung Training and Learning English with Urijah Faber

It wasn’t long ago when fans solely restricted to a North American MMA diet, finally caught wise to the fact that Chan Sung Jung (or better known as “The Korean Zombie”), was the kind of fighter you put your meeting, kids graduation and or wedding on hold to watch fight. If you still haven’t seen his WEC 48 bout with Leonard Garcia last April, drop everything now and immediately seek out footage.

Of course, the fanfare surrounding Jung experienced a little hiccup in September, when George Roop viciously demonstrated with a head kick that the South Korean fighter is in fact, not a zombie, but hell; no one’s going to be changing a nickname that good anytime soon.

So what’s the latest news on the Zombie? Since he was forced to pull out of his January tilt with Rani Yahya in January, the featherweight has apparently been putting some time in with Team Alpha Male. Yup, you could do a lot worse in terms of training partners. For more on that, head to the Garv here.

In addition, it seems that former WEC featherweight champ Urijah Faber has been giving (wink, wink) Jung some English lessons (more winks). In a very entertaining vid released by Faber and his crew, Jung proves to be a brilliant student in picking up the finer points of the English language, most importantly, pick up lines. To check out the vid head here.

Now, if you want to throw a little dough down on Faber’s upcoming bout with Eddie Wineland, which should be pretty sweet, go here.

M-1 Global Says No Talks Ongoing About Fedor Fighting Dan Henderson

One of this week’s hottest topics has been regarding recent reports that Fedor Emelianenko is considering taking on newly minted Strikeforce Light-Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson, later this year.  Hendo’s into it, the promotion’s CEO Scott Coker apparently said there’s been “preliminary” discussions about it, so maybe this thing’s gonna happen right?

One of this week’s hottest topics has been regarding recent reports that Fedor Emelianenko is considering taking on newly minted Strikeforce Light-Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson, later this year.  Hendo’s into it, the promotion’s CEO Scott Coker apparently said there’s been “preliminary” discussions about it, so maybe this thing’s gonna happen right?

Well, maybe not. Of course if you’ve followed the career of Fedor over the last few years, then you know that trying to bank on anything regarding the Russian star is as uncertain as what’s going to come out of Chael Sonnen’s mouth next. Why are we shatting on the Hendo vs. Fedor talk? (A fight that yes, would be totally awesome) Well, it seems like Fedor’s management M-1 Global, has no effin idea why anyone is talking about the potential super fight to begin with.

According to a report from MMA Junkie today, M-1 Global’s Evgeni Kogan says “There have been no discussions with us,” about the fight, and that further, “Any discussions have been solely on the other side of the Atlantic.” Wow; a denial that includes a geography lesson as well.

Kogan reportedly went on to say that from his point of view at least, Fedor meeting Hendo is “not a fight that makes any sense,” and that it’s more likely that the heavyweight will face the loser of the upcoming Alistair Overeem, Fabricio Werdum tilt, next.

Huh. Maybe Fedor’s content to keep rolling with the big boys from here on out after all?

Dan Hardy Worried Anthony Johnson Won’t Make Weight

It may be a stretch to call it MMA’s “March Madness,” but over the next few weeks there’s more than a few bouts scheduled to satisfy the fight diet of any avid fan. Maybe that’s why that the upcoming UFC Fight Night bout between Dan Hardy and Anthony Johnson has been getting lost in the […]

It may be a stretch to call it MMA’s “March Madness,” but over the next few weeks there’s more than a few bouts scheduled to satisfy the fight diet of any avid fan. Maybe that’s why that the upcoming UFC Fight Night bout between Dan Hardy and Anthony Johnson has been getting lost in the mix a little bit.

Granted, sales on Dan Hardy Mohawk replicas may have dipped some because of his KO loss to Carlos Condit in October, but if you can’t understand why one might be excited  about “The Outlaw’s” upcoming fight with Johnson, maybe it’s time to pick a new sport huh? After all, until Johnson got worked over by Josh Koscheck, the massive welterweight was quickly rising up the rankings with a head kick here and a night ending punch there. In other words, this fight could, repeat, could be a striking barnburner.

While speaking to Middleeasy.com, however, Hardy is apparently concerned about Johnson’s ability to make weight for the UFC Fight Night card. Johnson has missed weight in the past, and according to Hardy at least, the fighter may be looking to redefine the meaning of “oversized welterweight.”

“I saw him a few months ago, he was about 235 lbs. Even if it was nine months ago, to lose 65 lbs is a push. It’s going to be tough on his body. He struggles to make weight anyway when he’s fighting regularly, so coming down from that weight — I don’t know. I’m a little concerned because I don’t want a percentage of his purse, I want the win bonus.”

We’re concerned too buddy; here’s hoping both dudes can bring it come March 26th, as this one could be FOTN. To bet on the bout head here.

Tito Ortiz Says “It’s Awesome” Not Carrying PPV Card

Yes, if you’ve followed MMA for some time now, then we’re guessing the above headline may have evoked a general response with the words ‘since when?’ After all, Tito Ortiz has never exactly been one to shy away from the camera, microphone and or anything resembling a spotlight. Of course, that’s not to say the […]

Yes, if you’ve followed MMA for some time now, then we’re guessing the above headline may have evoked a general response with the words ‘since when?’ After all, Tito Ortiz has never exactly been one to shy away from the camera, microphone and or anything resembling a spotlight. Of course, that’s not to say the MMA world doesn’t owe a ton of debt to Ortiz, as like him or not, “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” was a driving force in making the sport what it is today.

Although Ortiz has struggled over the last few years with injuries and lacklustre performances, the UFC still promoted the former champ heavily, giving him main event tilts or coaching stints on TUF. So as we head into UFC 121 and Tito’s bout with Matt Hamill, it’s been kind of weird really, to see the light-heavyweight take somewhat of a back seat no? When asked at this week’s UFC 121 presser about not carrying a PPV card, Ortiz had this to say (thanks to MMA Bay for the footage):

“It takes a lot of pressure off; it’s awesome. I like to see Brock doing all the work, Cain doing all the work, but at the same time I still do the extra PR work the UFC lets me do. It’s Dana’s decision and at the end I’m thankful just to be on the card.”

Interesting. Really, aside from Tito’s recent remarks regarding deaf people (which soon required his apology), it’s been relatively quiet on the “Bad Boy” front. That may continue if he ends up losing to Hamill Saturday. To bet on the bout head here.

Randy Couture Still Unsure on MMA Future

Yesterday we passed along word from Dana White, who is apparently remaining firm, this time (nudge-nudge), on previous statements that the legend Chuck Liddell will not fight in the Octagon again. Yesterday we passed along word from Dana White, who is apparently remaining firm, this time (nudge-nudge), on previous statements that the legend Chuck Liddell will not fight in the Octagon again. Of course, another of the sport’s biggest stars and pioneers, Mr. Randy Couture, is still going strong at 47, yet, nothing’s been lined up for him  since he walked through James Toney (reading that still brings a Grinchish smile to hardcore MMA fans doesn’t it?).

As anyone blessed with electricity knows, Couture continues to land roles on the silver screen and recently added “The Expendables” to his Hollywood resume. More and more lately, it sounds like Couture is unsure of is what his future holds in fighting, and in a more recent report from Fighters Only Magazine, that apparently hasn’t changed.

“I don’t know what is gonna happen on the fight front. I have had my wars, done my thing. I’ve been having fun, I can still fight, but I am not sure I want to make another run at the title or anything like that.”

Couture also reportedly said that he’s been cast in the sequel of “The Expendables,” which begins shooting in March, and even added “I enjoy fighting, but it’s probably time to move on…” In a recent interview with MMA Weekly, “The Natural” stated he hasn’t been approached by the UFC for another fight, yet, while also adding that he’s never felt better as a fighter. Could it be that Couture’s days punching dudes in the face, for real-not acting, are done? Here’s hoping the answer’s no.
