Less than 24 hours ago, Rich Franklin was separated from consciousness by Cung Le in Macau.

In the post-fight interview, the obviously concussed Franklin was unable to commit to retirement when questioned by Jon Anik. Instead, Franklin said that he has to speak with his coaches and decide where he goes from here.

Fans best know Franklin for being a company man from the beginning. He was the face of the UFC’s middleweight division before being dethroned by middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva. Since then, he’s stepped up whenever needed and always put on a spectacular performance.

I was taught as a child that you never end anything on a bad note. I was never allowed to walk away from the basketball gym on a missed shot. I always had to walk away on a basket.

That’s what Franklin should do.

There are many fights available to Franklin in the UFC’s middleweight and light heavyweight division. I recognize that he would retire with a win should he face someone like Dongi Yang.

However, the five fighters on this list all possess one thing in common: They’re all “name” fighters. This guarantees that Rich walks away in a fight that maximizes fan interest.

If you’re someone like me, you were up at the crack of dawn to watch the UFC’s first foray into entering the Chinese MMA scene. Unlike previous years, the UFC opted to show all international events live.

And people used to complain about tape delay and spoilers? HA!

The undercard was pretty forgettable. Sure, Alex Caceres looked good and Motonobu Tezuka made me laugh, but it was very underwhelming by and large.

That’s actually the theme for the entire card, save for the co-main and main events. Those two fights ended in spectacular fashion and redeemed what I felt was a card that was dragging.

After finally being rested after an incredibly long night and morning, let’s go ahead and grade the performances of everyone on the main card.

The UFC makes its return to Fuel TV on Saturday morning when Cung Le takes on Rich Franklin in middleweight action. Franklin has forever been the company man; always willing to step up on short notice to face whoever the UFC lines up for him. He faces Le in the UFC’s first event held off the coast of mainland China.

In the co-main event, Thiago Silva looks to get back on track when he faces Stanislav Nedkov in light heavyweight action. Silva last fought Alex Gustafsson in an unsuccessful return to the Octagon. In Nedkov he finds a very winnable fight.

The rest of the card is fantastic as Paulo Thiago faces Don Hyun Kim and Takanori Gomi returns to face Mac Danzig.

It will be an early morning for everyone and will test the most hardcore of fans as the event begins as the sun rises on the East coast. The main card will go live at 9 a.m. ET with six fights.

Looks like FOX is getting yet another title fight for network television with the announcement that Demetrious Johnson will defend his flyweight belt against John Dodson in January.

The news was confirmed by Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight this evening. This will be the first title defense for Johnson, who won the inaugural flyweight tournament with decision wins over Ian McCall and Joseph Benavidez

Dodson won the 14th season of The Ultimate Fighter as a bantamweight before cutting down to flyweight. Since the cut, he’s picked up two wins, including a stunning knockout victory over Jussier Formiga

This will be the third title fight on network television.

The UFC made a huge splash last year on FOX with a heavyweight title fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos. The bout was a bit underwhelming, as Dos Santos starched Velasquez in 64 seconds to capture UFC gold.

The final FOX card of 2012 features a lightweight title fight in the main event as Benson Henderson looks to defend the belt against Nate Diaz. Both Henderson and Diaz are exciting fighters who will likely keep the crowd on their feet.

This is a great play by the UFC to feature the lighter weight belts on free television. They aren’t money makers on PPV but have the potential to draw fans in on network television. It’s a move that appeases their television partner yet also works to build up an often ignored weight class.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson Says He’s Fighting Glover Teixeira on Fox

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has made it no secret that he plans on leaving the UFC once he fulfills the final bout on his contract. He’s felt that the UFC hasn’t supported him and that it is matching him up against boring fighters.

He’s even gone as far as to publicly state that the UFC is utilizing him completely wrong and that he should be matched up with strikers. He believes that he’s the type of fighter that should receive favorable matchups because he’s so marketable and exciting.

The UFC attempted to grant Jackson his wish by scheduling him to face Glover Teixeira at UFC 153 in Rio last month, but he was forced to pull out due to injury. Teixeira went on to completely brutalize Fabio Maldonado over two rounds instead.

In the post-fight interview, Glover pleaded for the Jackson fight. It’s a fight that he needs in order to truly make the next step in his UFC career.

Well, apparently the UFC has decided to put Jackson and Teixiera in the cage against one another at UFC on Fox 6 in January.

As far as matchmaking goes, this is a no-brainer. It’s a very even bout between two heavy-handed strikers.

Glover has a slight advantage in punching power, but Jackson is the more technical boxer. There is quite a big gap on the ground, as Jackson has all but given up on his wrestling while Glover remains one of the best grapplers on the planet.

If this is truly the final bout of Rampage’s UFC career, it’s a dangerous way to go out. All parties have a lot on the line. The UFC is building Teixeira as a monster light heavyweight who strikes fear in the hearts of his colleagues, so a loss would all but stop that marketing build.

On the flip side, Rampage can’t really afford to walk away from the UFC on a loss. He’s currently on a two-fight losing streak and another loss would kill his marketability outside of the Octagon. He needs to leave with a W if he hopes to optimize his earning potential.

My early prediction is that Glover walks away with the win. He’s the more complete fighter and just seems to care more at this point. Rampage has been talking about everything from a hip hop career to boxing. He just doesn’t have his mind on MMA anymore.

With this latest fight announcement, the next Fox event is shaping up to be a must-watch card.
