UFC lightweight Kenny Florian is rapidly turning into one of the best analysts in mixed martial arts. Over the weekend he called both the Ultimate Fighter Finale on Spike and WEC 49 on Versus, and in both broadcasts he showed off his technical knowledge of MMA as well as an ability to clearly articulate the strengths and weaknesses of the fighters he was watching.

But Florian, who also works as an analyst on ESPN’s MMA Live, found a subject this week that he couldn’t explore in any real depth: Saturday night’s fight between Cris Cyborg and Jan Finney.

I don’t think Fabricio Werdum is going to beat Fedor Emelianenko on Saturday, and neither do you, and neither does anyone we know. But it is possible that Werdum could beat Fedor, and although it would be a huge upset, it wouldn’t be as big an upset as Sokoudjou beating Antonio Rogerio Nogueira or Matt Serra beating Georges St. Pierre.

So if that huge upset happens, what happens next for Werdum, for Fedor, for Strikeforce, for M-1 Global and for all of MMA? A few scenarios are below.

Marlon SandroOn Sunday in Japan, Marlon Sandro needed just 38 seconds to knock out Masanori Kanehara at Sengoku 13. On Sunday in Canada, Josh Grispi needed just 2:33 to choke out LC Davis at WEC 49.

If you love MMA and want to see the best fighters in big fights, it’s disappointing that Sandro and Grispi got so little attention for what they accomplished on Sunday. Sandro’s fight wasn’t televised at all on North American television (it will air on tape delay Friday night on HDNet), while Grispi’s fight was the No. 3 bout on a fight card that got weak ratings on Versus. There are still a whole lot of people who follow MMA but don’t know who Sandro and Grispi are.

And they don’t know what they’re missing: Two of the Top 10 feathwerights in the world. See where they rank below.

“People ask me that all the time,” White told Dan LeBatard, via Sports Radio Interviews. “This is what I believe. I believe my job is to put on fights that people want to see. I keep hearing that and enough people want to see it. I guess I’m gonna have to do it.”

Last year Fedor Emelianenko disappointed a lot of mixed martial arts fans when he turned down a contract offer from the UFC and decided to stick with his own promotion, M-1 Global, and fight on co-promoted cards with Strikeforce. One of the reasons that move seemed so baffling is that the UFC was reportedly offering Fedor an enormous contract that would have made him the highest-paid fighter in the sport.

But according to M-1, Fedor is already the highest-paid fighter in the sport.
