The first UFC on Fox event had a highly anticipated match between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos scheduled for the UFC Heavyweight Championship.
Many first-time fans tuned in for the event to really get a taste of what the UFC was all about.
They left knowing about the same amount.
The heavyweight bout ended 1:04 into the first round with a knockout win by Velasquez.
That was it for the night. UFC on Fox did not have any other scheduled bouts for the event. The preliminary events were all shown on Facebook.
After 59 minutes of talking and one minute of fighting, we have to ask the question: Was this bout bad for the UFC?
Fans who were watching for the first time didn’t get to experience a true MMA fight with the typical battle.
Imagine if one of the preliminary fights was shown instead. The lightweight bout between Clay Guida and Ben Henderson that took place before the main event was one of the most exciting UFC fights I’ve ever watched.
I watched that fight on Facebook. I really doubt that the majority of first-time watchers did the same.

Tomorrow night at 9 p.m. ET, the UFC will kick off it’s first ever event for UFC on Fox with the heavyweight championship on the line in the main event.
Current champion Cain Velasquez (9-0) will take on Junior dos Santos (13-1) in what is sure to be a toe-to-toe slugfest in the octagon.
Some people may tune in for their first ever UFC fight tomorrow night on Fox, and they are sure to get a show.
This one is not going to go the distance.
Velasquez is coming off a fight with one of the more feared fighters in the UFC.
On October 23rd, just 4:12 into the first round, the 29-year-old won the heavyweight championship by TKO in his fight against Brock Lesnar.
In fact, Velasquez has won eight of his nine fights by knockout. The only time he failed to do so was in 2009 against Cheick Kongo. He won that fight by unanimous decision.
Don’t get it twisted—I’m not saying that Velasquez is sure to win this fight. Junior dos Santos is no slouch, either.
Santos has seen his two most recent fights go the distance, both of which he won unanimously. However, prior to that, he had never been in a fight that went to the judge’s scorecards.
If you don’t want to pay the money for the Pacquiao and Marquez fight tomorrow, be sure to tune into Fox to check out this showdown.

Saturday night, at 9 p.m. ET, UFC 135 will kick off in Denver, Colorado.
In the main event for the evening, Jon “Bones” Jones (13-1) will defend his Light Heavyweight Championship for the first time against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (32-8).
Jon Jones is the favorite heading into the night. Despite his 13-1 record, Jones physically has never lost a fight.
His only loss came by disqualification when he landed multiple illegal 12-to-6 elbow shots against Matt Hamill. Jones was dominating the fight up until that point.
Here are three keys to the fight to help Jones remain unbeaten.
1. Wrestling Advantage
Jones has taken down every wrestler he has ever stepped in the ring with. Matt Hamill, Brandon Vera and Vladimir Matyushenko are all known for their wrestling ability. They couldn’t stop Jones.
Jackson is not known for his ability as a wrestler. He stands a much better chance as a brawler or boxer.
A year ago we saw what Rashad Evans was able to do when tacking down Jackson. If Rampage can’t stay on his feet, this one will likely be over fast.
2. Reach Advantage
Jackson may be known as the boxer of the two, but he definitely still has a distinct disadvantage when he and Jones stand toe to toe.
Jackson has a reach of 73 inches which typically isn’t a problem.
However, Jones has a freakish reach of 84.5 inches.
Jackson has the power to land knockout punches, but he may have trouble getting close enough to Jones to actually do it.
Jones will likely look to fight this match from a distance and on the mat.
3. Clinch Advantage
Jones will likely take a page out of the book from Rashad Evans on this one. Evans completely dominated Jackson from the clinch in their fight a year ago, which ultimately led to his victory.
The difference is that Jones has added abilities from the clinch. Jones possesses Greco-Roman throws and judo trips that will send this fight to the mat.
If the two get into a clinch, Jones should have very little problem taking Jackson to the mat. If this fight is fought from the ground there is no chance that Jackson comes away with a victory.
