Bantamweight bout: Mike Easton vs Byron Bloodworth

Lightweight bout: Michael Johnson vs Paul Sass

Johnson

Lightweight bout: Yves Edwards vs Rafaello Oliveira

I haven’t seen Oliveira, but I’ll pick Edwards in the dark here.

Main card

Lightweight bout: Matt Wiman vs Mac Danzig

This is a rematch fight. Wiman won due to early ref stoppage last fight. I like Wiman to win this one. Very tough guy to finish. Well they both are really. A very compelling fight.

Welterweight bout: Anthony Johnson vs Charlie Brenneman

Although Brenneman beat Rick Story in a major upset. I think Anthony Johnson’s power and reach will be too much. Johnson.

Heavyweight bout: Pat Barry vs Stefan Struve

Barry will probably chop the legs of Struve for three rounds and take a dec.

Bantamweight Championship: Dominick Cruz (champion) vs Demetrious Johnson

Dominick Cruz. I don’t think Johnson brings enough skill to the table to defeat Cruz. Not only is Cruz awesome on the feet, but he is equally a good wrestler.

Strikeforce Challengers and Titan Fighting Championship Thoughts

Excellent fights in Titan tonight. Varner lost in the main event to newcomer Dakota Cochrane. This guy is someone to watch. His skills are rusty, but he has good wrestling and excellent escapes. Couple all that with some decent power. Keep an eye on him. Brett Rogers lost to Eddie Sanchez. I figured if Sanchez

Brett Rogers lost to Eddie Sanchez. I figured if Sanchez can avoid those first few attacks Rogers brings on opponents the more technical Sanchez can win.

Strikeforce is also put on a decent show here. Both Couture and Shawn Jordan were impressive. Brian Melancon is one to watch though at 170. All around good and had a tough opponent, but won relatively easily.

Lorenz Larkin is an interesting fighter doing weird stuff like heel kicks to the calf while up against the cage. He came out with a jumping round house to kick things off as well. Larkin’s movement is a problem for anyone he is going to face. That is probably more important skillset than his dynamic striking.

It was back and forth through the first 2 rounds, but in the third, Nick Rossborough comes out with a fury backing Larkin in to the cage and starts unloading on him.

Out of nowhere, Larkin lands a hard knee to Rossborough’s body that makes him fall back in slow motion and on to the ground – unreal. Larkin jumps on top and tries to pound. Rossborough survives and Larkin lets him up. Now up against the cage Larkin takes Rossborough down and ends up on top. Larkin dropping elbows to the body while in the guard, but Rossborough has him tied up now pretty good.

Now Larkin slashing some Florian like elbows. Really good short elbows and Rossborough is now bleeding badly. Larkin remains on top until the bell.

Lorenz Larkin takes it 30-27 twice and 29-28

UFC 135 Predictions

Light Heavyweight Championship: Jon Jones (c) vs Quinton Jackson Such a tough call. Light Heavyweight Championship: Jon Jones (c) vs Quinton Jackson

Such a tough call. Jones is the guy who can lay on the strikes and if the fight gets past the second round, I think Quinton has little chance of winning. The only X-factor here is his training at the Muscle Pharm training center. Rampage is notorious for hating training camps. This time he lived at Muscle Pharm – yes slept at the gym. That has to count for something big. Jones is dynamic and fluid and inventive. I knew he would be good when I saw him on a highlight of some no name show in New Jersey. His range is going to be a problem for Quinton. Its hard for him to drop his power while punching upwards.

The obvious play here is Jones. I think he is going to win. However, at -500 and Quinton at +350 I see value in his one punch KO ability. Not only that he has the chance of a GnP win if he catches him mildly.

Welterweight bout: Matt Hughes vs Josh Koscheck

Josh Koshcheck is going to be faster and put out more output. Koshcheck is -500 though. Hughes is a good value play here imo.

Heavyweight bout: Travis Browne vs Rob Broughton

My prediction is Travis Browne continues to look good and wins this one.

Lightweight bout: Nate Diaz vs Takanori Gomi

The reach is going to be a problem with Diaz. Diaz is also going to be more aggressive. If this goes to a decision likely it goes to Diaz. The odds have Diaz favored and I think that’s fair. Would love to see Gomi recapture his former glory, but against Diaz I don’t see it happening as his range will keep that overhand out of his way.

Heavyweight bout: Ben Rothwell vs Mark Hunt

Ugh again Rothwell has disappointed me in his last two outings and he is going against Hunt here. The two of these heavyweights will stand the entire time. That favors Mark Hunt. Hunt can take the best hits out there and not go out. Rothwell is going to have to submit him to stop him, which isn’t difficult.

Hunt on the other hand carries one touch power in his hands, not likely ever seen by Rothwell. Hunt is K-1 experienced. Again underdog value here with Hunt at +240.

Preliminary Card (Spike TV)

Lightweight bout: Tony Ferguson vs Aaron Riley

Tony is favored -300 here, but I think again the underdog in this one has excellent value. Riley is a zombie and is hard to stop. Ferguson is a great striker and Riley has had problems with them before. In fact that is who have beaten him if you look at his record. If this fight turns into a grind that will play into Riley’s hands. I like Riley in the underdog position here.

Middleweight bout: Nick Ring vs Tim Boetsch

Thinking Boetsch.

Preliminary Card (Facebook)

Featherweight bout: Junior Assunção vs Eddie Yagin

Assuncao’s back in the cage again? I thought he just fought and won like 2 UFC’s ago. I got Assuncao.

Bantamweight bout: Takeya Mizugaki vs Cole Escovedo

I like Cole Escovedo here. Value play.

Light Heavyweight bout: James Te Huna vs Ricardo Romero

Ricardo Romero – hopefully his conditioning is better. I got him.

Bantamweight bout: Ken Stone vs Donny Walker

Welterweight bout: Matt Riddle vs Lance Benoist

Not sure who Benoist is, but Riddle has been finding himself in the octagon and coming into his own.

Lightweight bout: Evan Dunham vs Shamar Bailey

Experience – Dunham.

Lightweight bout: Cody McKenzie vs Vagner Rocha

This is super interesting fight. As Cody McKenzie is a practically a 1 trick pony with his customized guillotine the McKenzitine. However, Rocha is a black belt under Pablo Papovich and expect Rocha to get his first victory in the octagon. Difficult not to root for McKenzie though as his move is unique and catches people often.

UFC Fight Night Live Main Card

Middleweight bout: Alan Belcher vs Jason MacDonald

Tough tough tough call here. Belcher will win on points, MacDonald advantage on the ground. I

Featherweight bout: Jonathan Brookins vs Erik Koch

My boy Brookins is back in the UFC after multiple injuries. I got Brookins.

Middleweight bout: Court McGee vs Dongi Yang

Court McGee coming on strong.

Welterweight bout: Jake Shields vs Jake Ellenberger

Ellenberger is the juggernaut and that name isn’t one that was given trivially. He does not stop. He is difficult to submit as well. Jake Shields’ record speaks for itself. His standup is awkward, but his ground game is lethal. Ellenberger and Shields makes such a closely matched fight that if the odds are HEAVY skewed towards one side or the other its an easy pick to go the other way. I do like Ellenberger because he is better on the feet, probably slight advantage in wrestling, big advantage in speed, but power is even between the two. Sheilds has the experience edge as well as the jits advantage.

Middleweight Championship: Anderson Silva vs Yushin Okami

Okami is one of the strongest middleweights, but Silva’s speed and technique will be too much for Okami’s strength and wrestling imo.

Light Heavyweight bout: Maurício Rua vs Forrest Griffin

The rematch between these included a fucked up Rua’s knee. I think Rua is back despite the John Jones crushing. I’ve got Rua here in the rematch.

Heavyweight bout: Brendan Schaub vs Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira

I’ve got Schaub here over Nogueira. Although this could be a classic Nogueira fight where he gets abused for 3 rounds, then comes back and gets the submission late.

Lightweight bout: Ross Pearson vs Edson Barboza

Awesome fight. Both great at standup. Barboza is a real star in the making. I’ve got Barboza in his backyard.

Light Heavyweight bout: Luiz Cane vs Stanislav Nedkov

Luiz Cane started out in the UFC hot as a pistol, but has been beat in his last few fights with a recent TKO over Elliot Marshall. Not sure who Nedkov is, but I got Cane regardless.

Preliminary Card (televised in Brazil/United StatesSpike TV/CanadaSportsnet)

Lightweight bout: Thiago Tavares vs Spencer Fisher

Very interesting matchup. I like Spencer here for a decision win, but Tavares is a beast on the ground.

Middleweight bout: Rousimar Palhares vs Dan Miller

Two submission guys. Palhares being the leg lock king and Miller good with the guillotines. I like Palhares here, but could see Miller winning a decision.

Preliminary Card (televised in Brazil/Facebook)

Welterweight bout: Paulo Thiago vs David Mitchell

I’ve got Paulo Thiago all day here.

Bantamweight bout: Raphael Assunção vs Johnny Eduardo

Assuncao ftw.

Featherweight bout: Yuri Alcantara vs Felipe Arantes

Bantamweight bout: Yves Jabouin vs Ian Loveland
