The UFC was off this weekend, but the MMA world kept turning through numerous regional promotions.

To start with, Bellator continued their seventh season with the quarterfinals of their lightweight tournament. There were some surprises, as well as fun fights.

Ricardo Tirloni punched his ticket to the semifinals with a D’arce choke over Rene Nazare. Also earning his way into the semifinals with a submission was Dave Jansen, who choked out Magomed Saadulaev with a guillotine.

The last two men making their way to the semifinals are Rich Clementi and Marcin Held, who won their fights by decision. Clementi defeated highly touted Russian prospect Alexander Sarnavskiy by split decision, while Held defeated Murad Machaev by unanimous decision.

Also notably on the preliminary card, Cosmo Alexandre and Lew Polley earned victories. Alexandre earned a doctor’s stoppage over Mike Bannon, while Polley, most known as Junior dos Santos’ wrestling coach on The Ultimate Fighter 13, won a unanimous decision over UFC veteran Carmelo Marrero.

In Japan, Deep 60 put on a fun card with intriguing Japanese talent. UFC veterans Daisuke Nakamura and Kazuhiro Nakamura earned victories in their respective bouts.

Daisuke defeated Takafumi Ito via knockout from a flying knee and punches. It was an incredible knockout that showed why Daisuke Nakamura should earn another invitation back to the UFC.

Kazuhiro Nakamura defeated Ryuta Sakurai by majority decision in a close fight. Plus, Yoshiyuki Nakanishi added another win to his resume with a unanimous decision victory over Yuki Niimura.

In Canada, Score Fighting Series 6 went down with some great fights. That was, until the main event left fans desiring more.

In the main event, Brad Cardinal and Chris Horodecki fought to a no-contest when a cut opened up on Horodecki‘s head from an inadvertent headbutt.

Notable winners by knockout were Rick Glenn and Tony Hervey. Glenn, a Roufusport representative, defeated London Whitlock in the third round, while Hervey knocked out Jorge Patino in the second.

Lastly, top Canadan bantamweight John Fraser earned a unanimous nod over UFC veteran Tyler Toner. It is another win that is moving him closer to the UFC.

In Brazil, Shooto Brazil was active this weekend with a good fight card. Notable winners on the card included Ismael de Jesus, John Macapa and Jose Maria Tome.

Macapa, a veteran of TUF: Brazil, earned a doctor stoppage over Rafael da Silva. Also winning by knockout, Tome destroyed Leo Jacare with some brutal punches.

In the main event, de Jesus submitted respected Brazilan Daniel Acacio with a keylock. It was a big win over a big name, which could go a long way for de Jesus.

Quickly, in Australia and India, several notables fought in less-publicized cards.

In Nitro MMA in Australia, Jai Bradney defeated Greg Atzori via guillotine choke. Plus, in India, Super Fight League hosted a smaller card headlined with a win by Lakhwinder Sekhon over Mohamed Abdel Hamid.

Next weekend, the UFC is still off, but the MMA world will continue to put on good fights.

According to news broken by mmajunkie.com, two drug tests from UFC 149 in Calgary came back positive from the samples taken.

The two fighters who tested positive for banned substances were bantamweight striker Francisco Rivera and welterweight grinder Matt Riddle.

It is reported that Riddle, who fought on short notice for Siyar Bahadurzada, failed his drug test due to marijuana in his system. At the event, he defeated Chris Clements in a Submission of the Night performance that saw him call out Dan Hardy after the event.

As for Rivera, he reportedly failed his drug test for an “undisclosed, over-the-counter stimulant.” His win at UFC 149 saw him brutally knock out Roland Delorme in an early contender for Knockout of the Night.

The punishments were reported as followed.

Both fighters were suspended for 90 days retroactive to the July 21 event, which makes them eligible to fight on Friday. The results of their respective bouts were not changed.

So, despite receiving respective suspensions for their mistakes, their wins were not erased like Jake Shields’ win over Ed Herman at UFC 150 was recently

These recent drug test failures cement the logic behind constant drug testing in MMA. Although Riddle and Rivera were not caught with performance enhancers or steroids, they still did wrong and broke the rules.

Both men were apologetic and will not appeal their suspensions.

At UFC on Fuel in England in September, Brad Pickett defeated Yves Jabouin with a brutal knockout to give him a big win on home turf.

After that fight, Pickett stated that Michael McDonald was on his radar. In my opinion, this would be a good fight for both men. McDonald is an up-and-coming prospect that is near the top of the division, while Pickett is an upper-level guy that could give him a great fight.

Here is a head-to-toe breakdown of McDonald and Pickett.

There is good news for the UFC and FX when the 17th season of The Ultimate Fighter airs next year.

According to news broken by mmajunkie.com, the upcoming season, which will be coached by UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen, will be moved from Friday night to sometime earlier in the week.

This is welcoming news to fans and UFC President Dana White alike, as the ratings of TUF on FX have been a complete disappointment since the move to Friday nights. The current season on FX is dredging, drawing the lowest numbers in the long-running show’s history.

This is the second move by the UFC (and FX) attempting to reinvigorate the show.

The first move was to obviously bring in Sonnen and Jones as coaches. Jones is arguably the best fighter on the planet now and a figure who many fans love to hate.

Sonnen is another love him-or-hate him guy. Sonnen has a devoted cult following and is a master of entertaining the masses.

Sonnen‘s pre-fight buildup and irritating antics will surely make for good TV. He has already gotten under the skin of Jones, which could make this one of the most heated coaching rivalries in show history, short of maybe Chuck Liddell-Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans-Quinton Jackson.

Now, with this move off of Friday nights, in combination with the coaching selections, ratings could reach an all-time high.

Many fans don’t watch TUF currently because of its Friday night time. Most people are out celebrating the weekend, while the show continues to limp along.

This may be exactly what the reality show has needed.

Following his win over Stipe Miocic at UFC on Fuel in England, Stefan Struve wants Fabricio Werdum in his next bout.

Struve is on a four-fight win streak, with victories over Miocic, Dave Herman, Lavar Johnson and Pat Barry. He is arguably a top-10 heavyweight and has looked impressive since his last loss to Travis Browne.

Here is a head-to-toe breakdown of a potential showdown between Struve and Werdum.
